| FTBL The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. UM Final Chapter

One other Good I should have added earlier… I applaud the guys that played today that didn’t have to, didn’t “need” to. Yes, that includes Milroe. I wish he’d have played better and ended his career on a much higher note obviously, but I appreciate that he went out there when he didn’t have to. Same goes for guys like Jihaad Campbell, who unfortunately had the one thing happen that you hope not to see… left with an injury in his last game. But others that aren’t leaving… Proctor for example, delayed his surgery and gave it his all even though he couldn’t do it all game. People like to point to culture and team toughness, well there’s a mark in the good column for how a lot of the guys handled it today. Don’t let the loss wash that away.
I appreciate what Campbell did for us today, came out there and played his ass off for us when he didn't have to. He'll end up going high in the draft, and I wish him well wherever he ends up. Gonna be a great player.
And I wish proctor would've just went ahead and got the surgery, appreciate the effort, but we don't need you getting hurt even more. Im about to attempt to walk back home.

Uh, no. Exactly why we need to go get the best available and not strictly “keep in the family”

That doesn’t work.

A few hours sitting back and thinking about this game and season. It’s kinda nice to complain about a “crappy” 9-4 season with wins over Auburn, LSU and Georgia.

Pre Saban, we would have been ecstatic about what the future holds.

We need to sit tight. Let CKD do his job and give the man a chance. Pushing folks out after a year or two gets ya to Auburn and Nebraska type levels.
I agree with need to give CKD time but I disagree that pre Saban we would have been ecstatic. The Bama standard did not just start when CNS came to Tuscaloosa. In my life time Bear set the standard, Stallings kind of lived up to it. CNS certainly lived up to it. All the rest of the coaches I was not ecstatic and most of us would not be.

There is a lot of things said in this post and others that didn't age well and that I didn't like this....

I"m going to start with this post:
1. Why do people compare current coaches to coaches from 60's, 70s, 80s, that was in another era and different culture. That never did make sense to me.

2. "We should've kept this hire in the family" That will never age well for any reason. It doesn't make no sense at all. Hiring Former players /coaches doesn't always work out well. So I don't know how you arrived to that point. I really don't.

3. Call for CKD to be dimissed in his first year at Alabama is crazy and stupid. Why are we even entertaining this point?
#1 is more about the standard of winning than the style of play or comparing eras in my mind. Foundational values, discipline, commitment, work ethic, team first, competitors etc... That is how I have always taken people saying that. Bear brought championships, Stallings brought back discipline, CNS brought back both in a big way until the last couple of years.

I am just concerned that Deboer doesn't quite understand what the standards are here. I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm worried he may think that just having 9 win seasons is good enough
I think he understands 9 wins are not going to cut it. What I am going to wait and see if he has the resolve to demand excellence and hold each player accountable in this NIL era. Rah Rah stuff is not going to cut it. Being an enabler of undisciplined actions is not going to cut it. Cannot be their buddies.

Most of the stuff will never be known. Several players hit the portal because DeBoer demanded more from them than they were willing to give. A couple of players that some fans whined about when they left.

We lost,.for the second year in a row, to Michigan,
Well, actually for the second time this year, 2024. Or for two seasons in a row. Either way they beat us twice.

Good - I didn't buy a 'Bama shirt with #4 on it.

Bad - maybe the CFP selection committee dudes / dudettes are smarter than I thought.

Ugly - to the CFP selection committee I offer my apology. You were right, I was wrong.

Saban’s clue that his first team was not gonna be good “I will play with the guys I have right now”..(not an exact)
CKD’s clue that his first team was not that good
“All my offense won’t be installed this year”…Maybe he should have given more clues that expectations should be tempered..

I'm not concerned. I don't think ppl who has well connected to program are concerned. I don't know why everyone getting worked up. Y'all were spoiled by Saban and it's not a good thing.
I have no idea what “who has well … “ means but If you don’t think people connected to the program are concerned you’re absolutely wrong. And we were spoiled by Saban just as we were spoiled by Coach Bryant and the other great Bama coaches. Saying that isn’t a good thing makes me laugh. How do you think Bama has won NC’s in all but two decades since the 1920’s? Just the luck of the draw? Or because the fans accepted piss poor performances? Or because they didn’t get spoiled by Wade, Thomas, Bryant, Saban … and to a lesser extent Stallings? No, it’s because this fan base is spoiled and we don’t accept what other fan bases accept or exoect. Those of you who don’t think that way should be thankful for those of us who do. Otherwise, you’d be a fan of an Auburnesque program whose fans settle for one key win a year and who are always excited about the upcoming season.

Here’s what I think (after having some time to cool off):
The 2nd year will tell us all that we need to know. Under Bryant, Stallings, & Saban, year 2 was a marked improvement. I always hear that a coach needs 3-5 years to prove themselves- bullshit. Year 2 will tell the story.
When you’re paying someone $10+ million and he inherited a championship caliber roster, it shouldn’t take more than two seasons. That’s all I’m willing to go because if he performs like this again the championship caliber roster will gone long before the end of the third season. I will say this … DeBoers has one great thing going for him … Keelon Russell. That young man can make any coach look good if he’s handled correctly. He’s a difference maker. Here’s hoping DeBoers has the sense to do what’s necessary to let him make a difference!

Pretty much have zero faith in this coaching staff other than on the defensive side of the ball. Our head coach dresses like he’s not a professional, has zero balls to make changes during the game, and quite frankly has major discipline issues with this team. I’ve watched Bama football for 30+ years and that was probably the toughest game I’ve ever had to watch. Mainly because this team is pretty talented and completely mismanaged. If Saban or any other high level coach was coaching this team would’ve been a 11+ win team.

The only thing this staff has done that’s positive is the defense played hard and they have kept the roster somewhat intact.

Most of the stuff will never be known. Several players hit the portal because DeBoer demanded more from them than they were willing to give. A couple of players that some fans whined about when they left.
Well, if the fans didn’t know the “inside scoop” how can they be criticized for “whining”? Or should fans only “whine” when they’re in the loop? By the way, what’s the difference in whining and “legitimate” fan frustration, anger, embarrassment,et al? I know a number of well connected donors who are extremely concerned by what they’ve seen this season. That kind of concern is what has made Bama Bama. So in my humble opinion we should all be thankful for their past “whining”.

On the other hand, it might all be moot now. I know this is one fan who will not donate a dime to an NIL fund and neither will some of the big donor whiners. With me, it’s no big loss … with them it is. So, if great programs going forward will now be the ones with deep NIL and deep coach’s buyout pockets, Bama won’t be among them. Those who are in the know, know there are about 25 or so “difference maker” Bama donors. Most are older and they too despise what’s happening to the game and the program they’ve loved generationally for many decades. Even if they are all extremely happy as they were with Saban, the sum total of their combined wealth isn’t anywhere close as the sum total combined wealth of Michigan’s donors as but one example. So, if the powers that be don’t add guardrails and speed bumps to the NIL and the transfer portal smaller money programs like Bama might be left out. Saban knew this and it’s why he checked out years before he had planned prior to their emergence.

I didn’t really pay attention to this fact until yesterday… Michigan had a very sound defense the entire year… probably because they had a very good NFL veteran, defensive coordinator named Wink Martindale… that might’ve had something to do with our offensive poor performance..

The best defensive players for Go Blue opted out for this game.

Winks gave NFL GM's a heads up on what 4 is all about. Pressure him and he folks like a cheap suit. He might hit one every now and then, but you can play that percentage.

Good - the defense. They were consistently put in bad situations but kept them out of the endzone.

Bad - Milroe. The announcers got it right when they said he doesn’t see the field. He has tunnel vision. He was a 50% passer. Throws weren’t on target, late (if he got them off) and he relied too much on his running history. A QB needs to be a QB and not a RB.

Ugly - Coaching staff. Where was the running game? Where was the adjustment on passing routes? Milroe didn’t play well (again) but the coaching staff didn’t help him.

This was an ugly way to end the season. I didn’t expect a NC but I also didn’t expect to lose to three teams when we were favored by 14+ points. I hope DeBoer learned a lot about what Alabama and the SEC is all about.

JMO but $4 was paid bonus money to play this bowl game. He sure F up a real chance for Bama to see if Ty can even play at this level.

Hope I never have to watch another play by that turd.
Update

A poster on the Bama rant posted this AM that Milroe was going to opt out of the Bowl unless the U of A paid him 250k. The U of A declined his offer. He played anyway to avoid the fallout from not playing. I questioned the poster if he knew this from fact and he stated it was true.

Bama should have paid the 250 for him to NOT play.

Not true. Just some a-hole on the internet trying to stir controversy.
