| FTBL The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. Boomer

Good - Saved a lot of money on postseason tickets.

Bad - The shine of being "Alabama" is no longer as of last night. Worst game I have witnessed.

Ugly - Milroe, Offensive Coordinator, and Defensive Coordinator. I'd put money on any of our backups and even Keelon Russell playing better than Milroe did last night. Say what you want, but he was effing terrible and costed us the game. His two interceptions in the flats were weak, half ass, and killed the team. A Captain playing like that is unacceptable by all measures. The play calling on offense was effing horrendous. They had our number East and West, yet we continued to try the same crap every series. We had more speed, but never challenged them early and spread them out. It was inexcusable. The Defensive coordinator was back to his old tricks as they simply ran the Vanderbilt game plan against us and we could not stop it. Our ends kept collapsing and our outside backers/safeties were nowhere to be found. Zero adjustments and it was rinse and repeat. Absolute worst coaching jobs I have seen as well.

Extra Ugly - this is a game that likely loses a number of our best athletes to the Portal. I don't blame Justice Haynes one bit for leaving. The guy averages five or more yards per carry and got three last night, THREE! Zero excuse for the treatment he receives. Ryan Williams is being wasted because a quarterback can't get him the damn ball without some acrobatic pirouette to get him back in position. I don't think DeBoer understood how tough week in week out the SEC was, because there is no way you walk out there with that product and think you've earned your $10M that year. Milroe, amazing person and I only hope the best for him, but any scout or coach wanting him to lead their NFL team should be fired. He is not a guy that can adjust, get out of his head, nor can he overcome his floor. The coaches should have known by the second quarter to yank him and not put the team in such a bad position.

Defense looked like crap, but effectively gave up 10 points after all of that. Milroe gift wrapped two of those touchdowns with the interceptions. Burnip hurt us with two terrible punts that gave them great field position.

Never fun to drive half way across the country to see the biggest let down you've ever seen from your school. Hate it for the kids because they had absolutely zero to cheer about outside of a fumble recovery on the goaline. Their fans were very pleasant, atmosphere was really cool, and was able to park for free at my fraternity house since I was a member, so that good. Left at the beginning of the fourth when it was clear our pathetic coaches can't adjust for shit and kept thinking something would eventually click. The refs were bad, but did not cost us the game. That was settled in the first half when we saw Milroe was worse than the Tennessee and Vanderbilt version of himself.

Two words = Rat Poison

This team can't help it. They take their wins to the bank (quite literally) & it feeds to practice. And theyshow up with a game plan of throwing your helmet on the field to win. NOBODY is intimidated by this 'Bama team.

Maybe CKD isn't used to having the expectation of winning like he thinks. It's one thing to coach at these underdog schools to get his team ready (which he does a GREAT job when he's coaching as a disrespected underdog) but it's a whole other animal at 'Bama where the other teams whole season will be made by beating 'Bama. He has to get used to planning, coaching, preparing against every teams best. He has to get into the mindset of his players to do the same & be REAL when evaluating.

I think CKD will be fine in the long run, but his year one team reminds me of one of Mark Richt's UGA teams. Very talented, and yet undisciplined while also showing a tendency to "play down" to their competition.

But sadly folks, we also have to accept that this team is what their record says they are: An 8-3 "transition" team. If this was 2012, CDK would probably have Alabama sitting at 11-0 or 10-1 right now as he would still have players like Caleb Downs on the team. But college football in 2024 is complete anarchy, and this team lost a lot of leadership, depth, and talent after Saban left.

True on points. But remember. They missed early fg. Dropped a wide open pass in ez. And gave us a fumble near red zone

We could have been down 20 at half.

Legitimate question (Looking at you Brandon, UAgrad93, etc,,,) Will Deboer look hard at replacing Sheridan & or Wommack?
Sheridan (at times) appears to have the attention span of a goldfish - he gets away from the RB run game faster than most people get away from a snake. If I were Haynes/Miller/Young I would head out to somewhere else if something doesn't change in this area.
Defensively, I see undisciplined play, how many times last night did you see the DE go so far inside & open up the QB run - no gap integrity.
I have not seen any adjustments during the game (to speak of).
What's y'all's opinion about the coordinators? I have mine now (they both would have had to find transportation back to Tuscaloosa last night & would be brushing up their resumes this morning.

I'll be stunned if the entire defensive staff returns.. and that's based on feelings and chatter. I'm not as clear on Sheridan right now... he's had some high water marks this year and also some absolute duds, which is what last night was. But, he's also dealing with a square peg in Milroe that he's trying to fit into a round hole at times in this offense. They've adjusted and leaned into what Milroe does well, and that worked great against Mizzou and LSU. But it was never going to work against a defense like OU... that was either a lazy or an arrogant gameplan from the start.

There will be a lot on DeBoer's plate though after next Saturday... there will be a bowl game to prepare for, but that'll be back burner. Early signing day will be a couple days away. Then, he's going to be dealing with some roster retention stuff, even before the bowl game prep begins. There will be players checking out, some pretty surprising ones to many, IMO. Some will leave for their own reasons, some will be pushed. This is going to be another post-season roster reshaping to a large degree from what I gather. Eventually, he's going to have to re-shape the staff some as well. Personally, I would like to see an overall improvement in the analyst department.... some of the advanced game planning that falls on that group has been terrible. But on the regular staff, I do think there will be multiple changes, possibly including one or both of the coordinator(s).

@Brandon Van de Graaff, so who else in SEC had to go on road vs conference team with extra week to prepare?

I'd have to go back and look, so don't hold me to this, but it happened with Bama 3 times out of 4 byes (@ Vandy, @ LSU, and @ Oklahoma). LSU did get a bye the week before Bama in that case. UGA and Bama got a bye the same week too when UGA then came to Tuscaloosa. But as far as a team traveling to another school, when they are fresh off a bye and the traveling team isn't? If I recall, it only happened like 2 or maybe 3 other times all season spread out amongst the other teams. It happened with Bama twice, and they lost both.

Didn't watch the game so I can't comment. I expected the game to be close with Bama getting out with a ugly win. I got the ugly part correct.

Couple of comments anyway.

Our punter has shit the bed for a couple of weeks. He is trying way too hard to blast the ball.
Milroe has to go after this season one way or the other.
On the West coast football is entertainment and at Bama it is life or death. The jury is out on Kalen at this point.
In hindsight Bama had their DC on campus before they had the new HC but missed on that one. Now that DC is at AU.
I guess it's possible that Kalen was given the keys without him knowing he would be held hostage to retaining the starting QB one way or the other but if so then shame on Kalen, Nick, and Byrne. Did they try to save this season and hope to clean house after the jocks and socks are put away?
This team has entirely too many jive ass punks that need to be shown the door. There is NOBODY on this roster that Bama can't replace and that includes Williams.

This isn't your father's college football. Sad these people fuk up everything they touch, and it is already documented for you.

One thing not really being said much.
But this is only a small part of what was projected as starters. Receivers. DBs. Safety's. RBs. DL. All bailed when nick left and are starting and are stars for other programs. Took our depth. And now injuries are taking rest. Plus that really tough away schedule

The first thing is CKD is going to have to take over this team with his own “iron fist”.. He is scared of this teams “factions”.. The same factions that caused Saban to leave.. Players making demands and forming little unions…Last year this team had a tantrum when Milroe got benched against South Florida…Saban gave in to the mob, after that game…That pretty much ensured Saban decision to leave…This year, Saban’s record could’ve been worse, than CKD..

This next month is going to be very interesting. Beating AU was going to be a struggle before this loss to the Wagon Folks.

If that is the case, then he would be best served to approach Byrne about a deal to resign (with a nice package) and take a year away before he ruins his career dealing in shit created by Nick. This stuff should have been put to bed the week after the USF game 2023. Blow it up and deal with it instead of trying to kiss the ass of punks with gold chains.

My Lord this is fuking pathetic.

I can’t get past watching the defensive line / LBs out of position all of time. That’s on the DC & up to the HC to address. Disappointed

Another Ugly - Payton Thorne is ahead of Milroe in most every passing stat this season. I said that correctly. Thorne, who hasn’t even started some games, and has been plagued by turnovers, is leading Milroe in passing stats. Be prepared for another Peyton Manning performance against the Tide defense.

Hugh got the phone system worked out..

This is the most mind boggling to me. Apparently we don't have a round peg on the roster. The seemingly unwillingness to even test that theory makes no sense, to me anyway. Im a "shit aint working" try something different kind of guy.

@Brandon Van de Graaff is more connected and as he stated, Sheridan has had moments of brilliance along with just baffling us with some bullshit! I lean on what DeBoer said pre-season, “we only have a fraction of the offense in and won’t be fully installed until next season”, or something along those lines.
Defense has been similar to be honest. I expect some changes IMO on that side of the ball.

Tommy Rees did a good job being FORCED TO use Milroe…He was better than we once thought..

To pick up a bit on the comment(s) on the offense... we've all rehashed this, but it tends to get lost in discussions over the course of the season. But, the current WR group is not what DeBoer prefers and wants, as a whole. He wants more size, more physicality (while keeping speed). On the OL, it's the opposite, in terms of size anyway. The guards are great, but Roberts for example is a step slow for what this offense likes to do. Both (well, all 3) tackles are hindered by their size as well. I think Proctor will be ok as he continues to shed some bad weight and get better with his technique and quickness, but Bama will absolutely explore portal options on the right side and see if they can improve the situation for '25. Possibly with Formby sliding inside.

But I say all that to remind everyone... It is a new offense this year, yes. But it requires a certain type of personnel to be run the way DeBoer wants to run it. And not just at QB.
