šŸˆ The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. Oklahoma

I’m a little confused by ā€œyou can’t expect to win a game with 3+ turnovers. That in itself is beating yourself.ā€ IMO something had to cause the 3+ turnovers. Now if a player is just running and drops the ball without being tackled or even touched or the QB just throws the ball straight to an opposing player with no one around, yes I would say that is beating yourself. However, all of the TO’s yesterday were caused by an Oklahoma player or players.
OK

Another thing that is frustrating is that I looked at the DeBoer/Grubb hire similar to when Alabama hired Oats. Different sports - yeah. Different styles. But it's the fact that Oats at Buffalo had one of the best scoring offenses in the nation and Washington was one of the best offenses in the country in both 2022 and 2023. Yet this season, Alabama is averaging 8 PPG in the second half.

Where are the elite route tree concepts that we saw at Washington? The presnap movements Alabama utilized earlier this year goes out the window on critical downs. And once again, the offense has regressed in year two under DeBoer in the month of November.

SEC defenses have had a lot to do with it. Having to use personnel that isn’t a great fit (at nearly every offense position) has been a hurdle too. QB is more what they need this season. WR’a are closer. TE’s are closer. OL still needs reworked a bit. RB’s I think will be better going forward.

Again, no coincidence that 3 of Bama’s most effective and consistent players on offense (which happen to be at OL, TE, and WR) were brought from Washington.

Still, the offense put up a lot of yards on a great defense yesterday. They just also made a couple of costly mistakes and special teams did them zero favors.

Yeah, I guess what makes me feel somewhat good for the future is that all of our best players are DeBoer's guys. Cuevas is a beast and an underrated piece to the offense (he should have gotten the ball on the last possession).

Still, 8 PPG in the second half is bad. Ugh.

I agree here. They've got to develop a step on your throat mentaily. There were about 3 times yesterday where it felt like, "ok, if Bama scores a TD here, this game is over..." and they failed to do it. As far as stepping on throats, you don't HAVE TO HAVE a solid run game to do it, but it damn sure helps.

I usually calm down and get over the initial pissed off stage after a loss by now, but I can't shake off that feeling. The way we performed in this game pisses me off immensely. Defense did a good job, they did all they could possibly do to win this game. Out goddamn offense and special teams just gifting them fucking points is what pisses me off so much. One of those games where you want to walk into the OC and just ask him "WTF man?"

Look, how about instead of a disciple.... we get the main man to come back? Huh, huh? Fuuuuuucccccckkkkkkk!

I'm old enough to remember when people bitched about Saban too. And now that the SEC as a whole is tougher with more parity, which means he too would find more struggles, it wouldn't matter. God himself could coach this team and a select few would still be unbearable twats at the slightest hint of adversity.

I think it was after the Clemson game where we got absolutely smoked, but a friend of mine made the suggestion that night that it may be time to move on from Saban, and Alabama try to get Dabo. I absolutely shit all over that idea, and him for even suggesting it. To this day I still fuck with him about it. I will not let him live it down.

Where do I begin?

Good - Only two penalties. 326 yards passing (but should have been more). Josh Cuevas had a night. Defense held Mateer to 138 yards passing (QBR of 71.7) and Oklahoma to 74 yards rushing. Eight different players caught a pass with six of those players having a catch for 16+ yards.

Bad - Where has Ryan Williams gone? He gave us only 45 yards receiving (including a long of 38 yards) so seven yards on his other two catches. Only 80 total yards rushing with a 2.4 ypc average. That includes a long of 28 yards (so 1.625 ypc if you take out the 38-yard run).

Ugly - Running game. Running game plan. Running play calling. It seems the only time we gain important yards is when we run a trick play. Jam Miller - he used to be a hard runner. Now he dances in the backfield and can’t find the hole. Turnovers - 10 points off three turnovers. Without those points we win.
