🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. Oklahoma

Good - The Defense is steadily improving. Cuevas is SOLID. He may be just as important as Bernard. Hill is steadily improving but is he banged up? A positive to this loss is the playoff RE-positioning. Before last night 'Bama was slated to play Jawja again. That doesn't look likely unless they both run the table. This team has shown it's coachability after a loss. A solid week of fundamentals, renewed focus, & healing up for the Iron Bowl is just what the doctor ordered IF we choose to lick the wounds & take our medicine.

Bad - This is the 3rd game in a row that Simpson had a strip sack (this is the worst trend). Which leads to ==>The offensive line starters changing from game to game is starting to be really odd to me. If not frustrating. Why can't the starting 5 get locked? The sporadic changes between game to game is why we've started to see the offense sputter. The pressures are getting to Simpson & the abysmal run game. It's obvious. Can anyone, who's been to the last two games, confirm if OTHER (besides Bernard) wide recievers are getting open?

UGLY - The turnovers & sloppy special teams.. Echoing others, this crap was the difference in a win or loss. But it has been showing its ugly head the previous two games. This time, the bill came due with our pockets emptied. CKD has to start tightening the screws here. Otherwise playoffs be damned.

I can speak for the LSU game and we definitely had receivers open on multiple occasions where there was no pressure and they were missed.

LSU in 2010-2011; Ole Miss in 2014-2015
You are correct and I remembered all of those losses.

I guess the key here is, how will CKD and his team respond?

In 2010, Saban’s team struggled and lost the iron bowl but bounced back with a big bowl win. That led to the 2011 run.

2014 and 2015, bounced back and won the sec in 2014 and the championship in 2015.

Maybe CKD team can bounce back, curb stomp Auburn and run the table in the seccg and playoffs. I’m not holding my breath though.

I think we are missing the point here. Yes. Ty has missed some wide open guys, yes he holds the ball too long……but, this all comes back to line play. If you can’t block for the run, you ain’t gonna be effective in the passing game. Bottom line. Running game has to get better. We knew it would bite us in the ass at some point this season, just glad it wasn’t against Auburn…..yet.

No, I'm talking about well blocked passing plays. I get the whole run game situation, but that hasn't kept Simpson from holding the ball too long, so I'm not allowing it to affect his ability to read the field either.

For instance, we were backed up into our side of the field against LSU and had Williams on an underneath route and Meadows on a deeper route where they crossed each other. He throws to Williams who is open, but with two guys on him and Meadows is wide open with no one near him for a guaranteed touchdown. Plain and simple it was a miss. It is no different than the lack of touch on his passes, putting the ball on the wrong hip, and missing on the long ball. It has been an absolute issue the last four games, or more. Doesn't help that Williams dropped the perfect pass at Georgia, that I do understand, so I don't let those plays cloud my judgement.

I guess what I meant was that early on, he seemed to be running for his life. I dunno. Ty has lost his edge though too.

All the way around, offensive play has sucked.

I have not checked the stats but the OL seemed to have one of their better games run blocking. Felt like there was more noticeable push from the OL run blocking. #4 ran really hard and was always falling forward. We can't make those things go away but takeaway any one of the turnovers or sacks and that probably swings the game. In the end can't change it but other than the obvious negative plays and the scoreboard Bama played better in my opinion.

Overall, especially considering the opponent, the OL did their jobs, IMO.

I’ll piggyback off of this. OU came into the game leading the nation with a total of 97 TFLs, right at 11 a game. The OL held them to a total of 5. Granted it was the timing of those 5 that hurt.

The objective summary is that we beat ourselves. It's just that simple. Without the pick six, we win. Without the missed field goal, we win. Without the turnovers, we win.
I’m the one of the biggest supporters and fan of Alabama football but the game I was watching clearly showed that the Oklahoma players and coaches had everything to do with beating Bama. On the pick 6 our offensive line not picking up the blitz caused the interception. Oklahoma players punching the ball and cause a fumble by Williams is not beating yourself. On the FG the snap was a little high but not blocking #44 was a bigger problem. Credit needs to be given when credit is due and the most prepared and best team on the field Saturday, unfortunately for us Alabama fans, was Oklahoma. RTR.

You can't expect to win a game with 3+ turnovers. That in itself is beating yourself. Did their offense also have everything to do with beating Bama? Their offense scored 16 points and had a little over 200 yards total. Obviously they were the better team last night because they won, but....

Somebody explain to me how 44 was not penalized for “jumping” off back of another player? Why was Bernard’s sideline catch ruled incomplete and not reviewed (I watch game with no sound)?

The player didn't get a running start before his jump... had he done that, it would have been a penalty I think.

I’m a little confused by “you can’t expect to win a game with 3+ turnovers. That in itself is beating yourself.” IMO something had to cause the 3+ turnovers. Now if a player is just running and drops the ball without being tackled or even touched or the QB just throws the ball straight to an opposing player with no one around, yes I would say that is beating yourself. However, all of the TO’s yesterday were caused by an Oklahoma player or players.
