🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. E. Illinois

Good - Defense absolutely throttled an inferior team, even took them backwards after the interception return down to the 16. They ended up out of field goal range. 30 rushes for 14 yards, 24 TOTAL YARDS, and two - TWO - first downs. Also, seeing the backups, including two good QBs.

Bad - Booing Talty, so much so that one of the blockers had to ask the student section for quiet. The cheers for him drowned out the boos when he made them, but it was a bad look.

Ugly - Attendance, particularly the student section. Many people gave their tix away, hardly recognized my section, but there were some really sparse areas. The defense was not a good challenge, but Ty's troubles, at least the way I saw it, are not corrected.

Beautiful - Senior Day. Coach loving his seniors getting recognition, and I always smile throughout the senior Million Dollar Band members on the big screens announcing their home towns.

Good - an easy win. Lots of players played. Most rushing TDs in a game since 1979.

Bad - Talty. No passing TDs. Where have our receivers gone?

Ugly - No, Ty Simpson does not qualify to attend the Heisman presentation. He was intercepted on 12.5% of his passes. No, he should not go to the NFL. He isn’t ready

Great: I don't care who the opponent is, the defense only gave up 34 total yards. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

Good: I asked so many times during the second half: Who? That's the beauty of these cupcake games.

Bad: Kicking woes. That said...

Ugly: All that booing aimed at Talty.

I'd boo him too after the way he responded to the snapper last week. Love our boys, but got no love for him.

An abbreviated version (from me)…

Good- The defense was fantastic. Yes, EIU sucks, and was overmatched to a degree that we hardly ever see, even on these money goem weeks, but the guys still clamped them down and handed bushiness. UA held them to just two 1st downs, had 9 TFL, and just less than 1 YPP. That's impressive, even against a cupcake.

Qua Russaw finally back out there and knocking some rust off...

DeBoer getting to empty the bench on Senior Day... always love to see that.

Bad- Was hoping to see a little more "rhythm" stuff for Ty Simpson and less run, but it doesn't really matter much.

I did not like that little scramble by Simpson where he took a pretty big hit to his lower half... that could have ended badly. No reason to take hits like that in a game ve. EIU. More on him later...

Ugly- The students booing Talty. Bad look... probably a lot of that young Yankee, northern culture attitude working its way into the UA student DNA. Whatever the case, I don't care for it.

Notes- That ESPN broadcast crew actually did a really good job, IMO. Better than most of their "main" crews. I thought they really harped on the Talty and kicking stuff too long, but that felt like a producer pushing it. Other than not shutting up about that, I give them a A+.

Re: Simpson... He's battling through some stuff physically, which (obviously) at this point in the season isn't all that uncommon. But, it's led to his inconsistencies lately. Good news is he's a tough dude and a leader and is dealing with it like a pro.

@Brandon Van de Graaff . What are you hearing about Cuevas?

GOOD = the D, scout team QB got to play and led a scoring drive. Played so many players today.. Mack looked solid.
BAD = the kicking game is needy. Still.
UGLY Ty giving up 2 picks ( even though the 2nd was a hail mary to end the half.) also A well played game will not help us in the rankings.
and while i'm at it... the CFP committee still sux.

Good- dominant win versus an inferior opponent, playing pretty much everyone that dressed. 8 rushing TDs!!!
Bad- Ty not looking especially sharp. 0 passing TDs.
Ugly- I know it was a “pay” game, but Wommack and the boys on defense took those poor boys lunch money!!

on Ty.... I watched the game again last night. I think some of the comments were little unfair. The first interception wasn't bad as it looked. That EI defender jumped so high and that was incredible effort, otherwise, it was a good pass, trying to fit in that window. Second Interception was basically end of the zone pass at the half. I think people looks at the stats and say OMG, he had 2 ints, and he had a bad day. not really. Honestly, I think we'll see much better effort from him going forward. Like Brandon said, he's not healthy right now.

I didn't watch, but everyone stated before the game for everyone to calm down snd this was gonna be a game to get back into a rhythm and get healthy and the comments here don't make it seem like he was the beneficiary of the opponent.

I always find it funny when people comment & then say stuff like “I was at a wedding & didn’t see the game” & similar comments

They were so quick to say something once they saw the stats. I saw several people commenting Russell should've started over Simpson, We better hold on to him or He's way better than Simpson, but didn't bother to see one play where he made a classic mistake as a freshman not to check down to the RB who was wide open and instead turned over the balls on downs. Or there was a play where He had a wide open guy, but chose to run.

We can't really take people's opinions serious for the most part. It wasn't bad, but it could've been little better. I'm glad Ty Simpson didn't play after 1st half so he can rest up more.

I only watched the 1st half using the link provided by one of our posters and I say thanks for that. With that limited viewing I say........

Lot of talent getting better on defense. Hope Bama can retain as many as possible. When you provide that much playing time for players then you can bet other programs will be checking out your reserves for purchase.

There is something going on mentally with Ty. He isn't having any fun and hasn't for several games. I assume the rumor is true that he has a injury that is making playing QB even more difficult. His facial expressions and eyes show uncertainty. Bama is going nowhere without #15 taking them and that means forward or backward.

Durkin is going to come after him with all he has much like OU and LSU. I don't believe anybody we play at this point is worried about us running with success on them.

This game is just huge for Bama. We have to win this game.

Understood. For the record, I am a fan of Ty's. At this juncture I am wondering, "can he adjust and take his game to the next level". His average day is better than Milroe's, but is his ceiling much higher than his average day? I think so, but haven't seen it consistently yet.
