šŸˆ The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. Oklahoma

I’m a little confused by ā€œyou can’t expect to win a game with 3+ turnovers. That in itself is beating yourself.ā€ IMO something had to cause the 3+ turnovers. Now if a player is just running and drops the ball without being tackled or even touched or the QB just throws the ball straight to an opposing player with no one around, yes I would say that is beating yourself. However, all of the TO’s yesterday were caused by an Oklahoma player or players.
So every INT in all situations is the result of superior skill and performance by the defensive player. So, it can never be a bad decision by a QB who should have held onto the ball and took the sack. OK, got it. Oh, and when the ball is tipped off a receiver's hands and into the hands of the defender that is all defender skill. Uh huh.

I sure hope coaching changes get made this offseason

@TerryP how does this align to those efficiency metrics you track for special teams? If I remember correctly, they showed Bama in the top 10 or 15 heading in to the UT game. I staunchly disagreed with their rating but I am mere mortal!

We should start a thread on our special teams because there is a lot to talk about this season. Missed FGs, punt coverage, lack of punt returns, KO return yardage, etc. And with the athletes we bring on campus, you’d think we would have some guys break a KO and punt return for big yards every 3-4 games. But we couldn’t be further away from that.

Ryan Williams "sponsors" need to call him out in the public... He is not performing as a "millions dollar man" right now...Hell, no one has called him out or challenged him in the public eye.. if they did, you might see a different Ryan Williams..

Yeah, I guess what makes me feel somewhat good for the future is that all of our best players are DeBoer's guys. Cuevas is a beast and an underrated piece to the offense (he should have gotten the ball on the last possession).

Still, 8 PPG in the second half is bad. Ugh.
I looked back at the season and our offense has scored 12 points per 2nd half counting all 10 games and 9.3 points per 2nd half in SEC play. We scored 31 in 2nd half against Monroe so that propelled our 2nd half scoring up to 12. Still pretty bad. 4th quarter scoring is rough this year!

Ugly - Running game. Running game plan. Running play calling. It seems the only time we gain important yards is when we run a trick play. Jam Miller - he used to be a hard runner. Now he dances in the backfield and can’t find the hole. Turnovers - 10 points off three turnovers. Without those points we win.

I’m not a big gimmick play guy in most cases (I don’t mind a couple to have in your pocket for short yardage and 2 point plays) but at this point I’m going to take whatever decent chunks they can get on the ground, however they draw ā€˜em up.

On Miller, he wasn’t on some All-SEC pace before his concussion by any means, but since, he’s taken a big step back. Is there a correlation there, direct or indirect, I don’t know for sure. But the numbers are pointing to something.

-58 carries for 267 yards (4.6 YPC) before concussion.
-39 carries for 81 yards (2.08 YPC) post concussion.

3 turnovers in this game led to 17 points by Oklahoma.
We stopped doing what was working by throwing to the middle of the field against the two deep zone. It was working.
We stopped using the TE. It was working.
Running game has been non-existent. D. Hill, IMO, should be starting and getting the majority of the plays.
Over 200 yards passing in the first half, 80 something in the second half.
Why in the world are we still trying to figure out a consistent OL?
Special teams have been a crap shoot all year.
Defense has improved and gave us a great chance to win last Saturday.
We are a good team, not a championship team.

I think this is a summary of the G, B and U thread.

Bama born, Bama bred, I will always be a Bama fan.

You ever wonder if maybe your message board talents would be better utilized and appreciated on maybe a sub Reddit board or something?
My therapist says that I need a break from sports, period. I asked if it had come to that as that seems like the nuclear option. My therapist thinks so. I said "let's see how these new meds work first" and he said "ok....but....I still think you need a break from sports". And he means ALL sports! Yikes!

I hope there's an ample amount of Midazolam in your game day prescription bag.

It’s really easy to say we are no good, second guess plays etc. I think the coaches have a done a very good job getting us where we are beating UGA, vandy, Missouri, uT, South Carolina. To have gone through that gauntlet unbeaten and 2 very tough road games, tells me we are on right track. Question is do we have the tenacity, strength, mental toughness to finish. The game at API looms huge. They basically will have 2 weeks off, no game on 15th, whatsamatterU on the 22nd. Then another week to focus on ruining our season. This coaching staff has never seen/ been part of what they’ll see on the lowliest village/trailer park in west georgia.

Good: Defense played well for having their back against the wall with all the turnovers
Bad: OL blocking scheme. Still won't work in the SEC against SEC level talent. When everyone executes perfectly, we have a 50% success rate at pass blocking or run blocking. I strongly believe it's the main reason we don't have a running game. It's also the main reason for the sacks. OK exposed it big time.
Ugly: Special teams. Is it players or coaching or both? Kicking is bad, punt coverage is horrible, kickoff/punt returns are horrible.
