Good- A healthy Milroe makes a huge difference. When he has that burst and can run, it opens up so much more for him as a QB. He played a hell of a game tonight, and I'd hope even his most vocal doubters can see that, and maybe understand why.
The first drive of the game... immediately ended up with a 1st and 15, but didn't let it kill the drive. There was some mental toughness on a couple of plays that extended it and they got 7 on the board. Good to see.
The offensive line took over as the game wore on and did a little MTAQ action on the LSU front.
J. Roberts has played through a lot of shit this year, got banged up again tonight on an unlucky deal. But the dude will be back out there because that's what he does.
Bama averaged 6 yards on 1st down... as noted previously, that has been an issue all year, but these last 2 games not it has improved dramatically. No coincidence that the offense has put up points pretty easily in both cases.
Bama won the turnover battle 3-0. This defense knows how to get them.
The safeties have been playing some good football, guys have grown up quick. Smith was playing well, Hubbard was impactful again... a talented bunch, but a well coached bunch as well back there.
That interception by Lawson in the endzone was a great play and a massive play. Campbell played well too. Both of them are playing faster mentally and physically in this new defense now.
The sack with 2:45 to play in the 3rd was big. LSU down 22 would have gone for it, but that force them to punt.
Wommack called some really good pressure packages that forced Nussmeier out of the pocket which is not ideal for him.
Emptying out Tiger Stadium the 3rd quarter like a mandatory evacuation was called is one of my favorite Alabama traditions.
Bad- The offense going fast on some of these short yardage situations seems to hurt Bama more than it helps. Wouldn't mind them taking a step back from some of that.
The 2 drops by Williams and Law both negated big plays. Those 2 have to catch those. I'm being picky here, but still.
I'm still not really happy with the special teams coaching.
Ugly- Losing Q. Robinson for an extended period would be bad. He hurt his left arm, but unsure right now how serious.
It should be a 15 yard penalty when fans throw stuff on the field if it causes the game to be delayed. Tired of that bullshit every week.
Notes- Wish they would have let Ty Simpson throw it around a bit more out there but there's also something satisfying about running it every play and making them bleed out slowly.
Milroe has had 340 yards rushing (10.6 YPC) and 8 rushing TD's vs. LSU in the past 2 years. That's ridiculous.
LOL at LSU keeping their starters in down 42-6 against Bama's (deep) reserves until the end so that they could try and score, nearly getting Nussmeier killed in the process. But that was his most questionable personnel decision since leaving that poor video guy in the scissor lift in South Bend.
On that note, Bama has given up just 1 TD now in the last 2 games... and tonight's, while it counts, should have a massive asterisk beside it. I know some folks completely wrote Wommack off a while back, much like some did Milroe... wonder if there is any backtracking now? Or no? Just curious.
Matt Moscona and T-Bob Hebert can eat some dicks tonight.
Roll Tide.
