The cupboard was in no way bare for Saban. Shula was a crap coach but he could recruit.

O-line was complete garbage…. He had a few pieces for sure. Several of those players you named were still needing a lot of development…..

IMO, that loss on Saturday was more like the loss to Garcia and South Carolina than it was ULM or some of the others.

Yep, I thought of that as well. Garcia looked like an HOFer in that game and then completely fizzled out. That whole regular season was a disappointing malaise with three total losses - I'll never forget the 2nd half $cam Newton comeback. And then we found our stride in the Bowl game against Michigan State.
