| FTBL Updates on Alabama players that are entering the transfer portal...

@Brandon Van de Graaff yea, I knew THAT, I meant not sure if that agent's tweet means he's not in Texas or the agent is just mad he's not breaking the story? It's a confusing tweet that shares no information, lol.

He's just throwing a hissy fit. More than likely he wants to show the $ numbers to other teams, thinking he might get a bidding war chance. Also, he wants his name and face out there so it's for attention. He's probably upside down on a 2019 Escalade and hoping for a big weekend.

Exactly what I read when I saw that Tweet. "Hey, look at me and the attwntion I'm seeking."

Same agent just tweeted that he's now representing Jase in the draft. I guess he's just trying to drum up some business showing he's defending his guys and their family.

Just a FWIW post... a lot of UA players are being contacted that are not in the portal... no real shock there, it's shitty but it happens. There's a push by some opposing schools telling guys that they need to hurry and jump so that they can get enrolled for the spring semester elsewhere, and other stuff like that, trying to take advantage of this window of chaos at UA. Saban worked really hard to try and keep some impact players from leaving... then he surprised them by retiring. I'm told players are not holding that against him, but at the same time, he's the reason a handful stayed... and now, he's no longer their coach. His presence around the program is helping, but may not be enough unless DeBoer can really sell these guys quickly on his vision and where they'd fit in it. So I say all that to say, again, there could be a couple (or more) impact (starter level) guys bolt in the next few days. A couple of OL and at least 1 RB and 1 DL. I feel ok about Downs for now, but we'll see. He's obviously a wanted man. The key right now is to get them to stick around for spring.

Yikes.

I really hope this place doesn't have a come apart if we lose some solid players to the portal. Regardless of who the coach was, it was going to happen.

And, in my opinion, it might take DeBoer a year or two to get players who fit his schemes and for players, whether highschool or in the portal, to buy into the fact that he is a solid coach. It's up to DeBoer to hire good assistants and for the coaching staff to show that Alabama is still a great place to play football. I believe he will do just that.

It's more worst case scenario. Best case, all of those guys stick around... which is much more likely than all of them bolting. O/U on leaving is 1.5 I'd say, but that's hard to gauge.
The good news is from what I know and have heard from/about the team and even the coach said so. These guys are a close knit group, especially amongst the starters. Hopefully that closeness gets them to stay.

If they leave, I wish them the best. We will likely find replacements in the portal after Spring Ball. Will add, a lot of these guys leaving are people that probably would've left after Spring Ball anyways if they weren't given the starting position. They're just getting out early to try a new school.

Said it earlier today, but all things considered, Bama has been very fortunate so far IMO.

Interesting about OL players. Washington just won the Joe Moore award so you would think they would be intrigued by that alone. Guessing Wolford could be on the move and may be affecting them? Assuming the running back is the one rumored to be visiting his girlfriend at a rival college this weekend? If so, that will be a big blow considering Jase and Roy left.

On the OL, these guys are going to be asked to slim down (which honestly, isn't a bad thing). I know some disagreed when I brought this up recently, but Bama sacrificed some quickness for size/power this past year. DeBoer isn't likely going to stick with that strategy in the trenches. I've used this as an example already, but take JC Latham. He's too big for even the NFL right now... He's got the shed weight. But there are other factors in play too with the possible transfers. On the RB you mentioned, you have more info than me on that. LOL

His weight was a reason I felt he should stay. He was good, but not as dominant as I hoped. He was beat many times this year against other talent and I felt he was too heavy to handle the speed.

To Build off this. Washington's O-line play was very technically sound and they still pushed people around in the trenches. I've gone over a little of their highlights but from what I can tell they really did well in combo blocking for blitzes and just recognizing the blitz in general. Something we struggled with this year and led to a lot of our sacks.
