| FTBL Alabama football coaching staff changes and updates...

I watched that game. I did not realize anything was wrong with his leg before the gruesome play happened. It looked to me like the same kind of break of Joe Theismann's leg when Lawrence Taylor fell on the back of his leg, breaking it in half. Prothro's injury happened in basically the same way.

Here's why It is a good hire: This is old info, but It'll give you an idea...

This year he took over a terrible South Alabama team whose defense ranked 109th in 2020 and, currently, has it ranked 72nd. But it’s more than just that: the Jaguars are the 8th-best defense in success rate, 33rd in forcing 3-and-outs, 29th against the run, 4th against the pass, 11th on standard downs, and 14th on passing downs. Oh, and they’re also right behind Chad Staggs’ Coastal defense in havoc and sacks generated. He’s young, energetic, and used to managing stuff on his own. Hmm.

Now, Put him on Alabama team... They will be very very good. Players will be more receptive to him.

@Kirk Van de Graaff and I were reminiscing about this game couple weeks ago and talked about this very thing... there was some belief that some damage was done to it on a punt return earlier in the game when he took a hard hit to that part of the leg.
I have always expressed that very belief that the initial injury happened way earlier.

Ballou worked with Wommack (and DeBoer) at IU...

As much shit as Ballou and Rhea get, I personally think we've been in great position during their tenures. Knocking on wood here, but you and I chatted around the CFP and late December about the fact that this might've been the first year where we didn't deal with season ending injuries to starters.

Yawl are going to need to help me with my biases but last I checked Indiana was not this great powerhouse. I know nothing about this guy and maybe he is everything we need so this is just a general comment. Stating the obvious, we need elite coaches and recruiters not just good ones. We no longer have the wildcard called CNS to pull the needed talent in.

Worth noting here, the only people giving Ballou shit are morons.

He muffed the opening kickoff (or UF’s first punt, I forget.) Go back and watch. He takes some hard hits trying to recover the ball and limps away before the camera angle loses him. I too have wondered if this was the initial problem. But it’s hard to image him dominating all game on an injured lower leg, until his final play.

As Brandon said, he was also part of the "Landshark" defense that Freeze had at Ole Miss when they were actually pretty good. His defenses have usually been in the top 25 of defense even using lesser tier players. I'm confident if we give him keys to the Ferrari he'll be able to handle the SEC.

Tom Allen had some good pieces on his staff at IU during that time... no coincidence that when they left and moved up the ladder, IU slid back down.
