The University of Alabama reported a $27.9 million loss for the athletics department during the 2023-2024 fiscal year, according to its annual NCAA financial report released by the school late Friday afternoon.

Total operating revenues were $234 million and total operating expenses were $262 million.

The school noted with the report, in response to a records request by Bama247, that, "The net loss reported for the year was largely due to one-time expenses associated with the football coaching transition."

The latest financial report comes after the athletics department posted a $12 million loss in 2022-23, when it had $199 million in operating revenues and $212 million in expenses. The school noted after last year's deficit was reported that, "$14.3 million in gifts collected during FY23 were excluded from the report because those gifts were not expensed in 2022-23."

I wonder if this is "accounting math", in order to show a loss and have a write off for the taxes.
Most live in the red. We have just been fortunate due to what Saban brought. It will be a challenge going forward.
They've "reported" being in the red the last three years (including this report.) I looked at it more in-depth last year. A lot of the "paid out" monies were to building debts. I can't say about this season, but if it was that way in '22 and '23>
