🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. UL

Good - Offense looked stellar with Tua

Bad - Continually going to Jalen, he's just never going to be the guy Saban wants him to be

Ugly - Mental Errors on all phases of the team. Penalties, Special Teams, Defense, some on Offense.

Good- putting an ass whipping on Bobby Petrino.

Bad- officials! Obvious chop block on Quinnen and then Savion called for a facemask while the WR is yanking Surtain out of bounds by his facemask.

Ugly- too many penalties and mental errors.

Good:
-Well, Tua. He was phenominal in pretty much every facet. Yes there will be some issues in the way he extends plays and probably some TO's, but it's well worth it. His arm talent is undeniable and the legs are plenty good.

-Jacobs & Waddle. They give us some explosiveness in the return game we haven't seen in quite a while. When you consider both are basically backups it's mind blowing. If Jacobs stays healthy he's going to make a huge impact.

-D. Thompson & Mack Wilson. DT was absolutely everywhere. He looks like the difference maker we need in the secondary. Mack played a great game too, hope he's not any more than dinged up

-OL after the 1st quarter. Slow start but they did a nice job afterwards. Ville' really blitzed a ton early it kinda caught us off guard. With some help from Tua they settled in and we got the run game going nicely.

-Q Williams. Was the only DL that stood out in terms of being in the backfield. He's just quicker than any other interrior DL we've had and I love it... The game has changed and he's what we need inside, not a chubby bruiser. Was a little surprised we didn't see more LaBryan Ray but maybe I just didn't notice him in.

Bad:
-Lost assignments in the crossing routes. Particularly that left side which happened 3-4 times. I'll be happy if we never have to see Jennings in any type of pass coverage again... Either he's not fully healthy or just doesn't have the speed to do so. Seemed like all the LB's besides Mack played a little slower tonight... I'm sure they'll improve.

-Offense with Hurts. Just have no rhythm. It is what it is

-Penalties. Some were bad calls though... Obviously have to clear a few up but this should be a wake up call.

Ugly:
-2nd unit on that last scoring drive. Noticed both Benton and Wright kind of lagging... Those are guys we will probably need at some point.

-Kicking.. Fuuuuuuuuuck. Here we go again

Great game though!! RTR

Good - Tua was as impressive as advertised and can make this offense special.
Josh Jacobs was incredible, as a runner and returner.
Jaylen Waddle was also as great as advertised and I see that Saban played some games with him not even being listed on the depth charter as a returner.
The defense was unbelievably efficient with Mack Wilson, Quinnen Williams (big surprise), Shy Carter and Deionte Thompson really standing out.

Bad - Special teams (minus the return game). Penalties, bad punts, bad kickoffs, missed PAT (inexcusable), bad kick coverage and missed field goals. The returners were excellent but everything else was bad. I am willing to give Jones a chance to redeem himself, considering he is coming off of knee surgery and may be rusty (plus there isn't much of a choice) but missing a PAT is unbelievable.

Ugly - Louisville's defense. Bobby Petrino is absolutely atrocious at recruiting defensive talent. The dude needs to be an OC, not a head coach.
Penalties were unbelievable at times. They would have never scored that first touchdown if it wasnt for repeated penalties on the drive bailing them out.

Good: Tua, Tua, Tua. Waddle, Waddle, Waddle.

Bad: Penalties and watching our brand new kicker immediately send everything to the right. Is Adam Griffin coaching STs?

Ugly: Coach Saban's media approach. This whole me against the world thing was a bad look last night.

Good....Tua and most all of the offense...Bama is loaded at RB for sure.
Bad...loss of Ole Mo once #2 took control in Qtr 2. He is a solid citizen for sure but he is average.
Ugly..penalties.....several folks lost their discipline and the number of personal fouls was really bad.

Not sure about this punter. He got a lot of credit in the spring game for getting kicks inside the 20 but it looks more like he was kicking it as far as he could. We'll see. Missed extra point and FG not good either. L-Ville's plan was to NOT return any kickoff it appeared.

He created all of this with a few unintentional words at SEC Media days ;).

I'm fine with him torching the earth once to set the record straight. Message to the team as well I'm sure.

Coach Saban did a lot of good things for himself and the program with the Training Days documentary. I don't even mind the point he made with Maria after the game about setting up her questions so that whatever he says it has a negative connotation to it. She, frankly, knew what she was doing. But his bad humor toward the press and the fans have gotten a little overbearing. My question is why isn't he as ticked off with the rest of us for the glowing reports we have heard about Waddle? This kid is about as electric as Tua. I hope we can soon get on to Alabama football.

You guys hit it all....
All i can say is....
What the hell is this kicking thing....
Ok...go back and practice more....BS..practice mechanics.....but in a real game...
We have a Temple transfer.....TEMPLE..... and he misses XP n easy FG....
Gotta be kidding....

Went back and listened and watched his post game with Marie.....
First...I remembered when the BEAR did it with a female interviewer....
And Nick was just defending JH.... he was irritated with stupid penalties....
And had it been a male interviewer...everybody would have just laughed...
Just gave the tv talking heads something to talk about this week... and the pundits something more to dislike hime for...other than just beating everyones ass

What the hell is this kicking thing....

There were some kicks yesterday that certainly didn't look good. But, let's not dismiss one important thing here. The missed field goal from 27 yards lies on Tua as much as anyone. It was a bad hold. It led to Mac, and I'm thinking it also stays with Mac.

And ya know, I'm still not the least bit inclined to be upset with early pass-pro when 'Ville has more guys in the box and they're stunting and twisting. The staff did a good job at addressing their scheme and making the right adjustments.

*I'm hoping this puts to rest the theory "teams won't stack the box against Bama." They still will. Any opposition has to concentrate on trying to stop at least one portion of the offense.
