🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. FSU

I disagree... the hire was a good hire. Doesn't mean it would/will work out, but the hire was good. Even in hindsight.
I was hopeful(but skeptical) about the hire when it happened. I was hopeful we'd get Lanning at the time. I'm still hopeful he can somehow turn it around, but that likely isn't going to happen. And I hate that, I don't want this program to go through a bad time. I wanted him to be successful and have a great career here. Godamnit! This sucks!!!

Best hire Byrne could have made. Dude was coming off a title run at Washington. Unfortunately now we can kind of see a lot of his success was off the backs of Penix.

Not sure the route he'll go next time, but I hope he's open to looking at assistants. Oregon, Georgia, Texas, and Ohio State all found success with this. You could even say Oklahoma after Stoops retired with Riley (until he left). Just because we're Alabama doesn't mean we should be over the thought that we have to get a coach with HCing experience.

Another ugly is our 3 games inside the state of Florida the last 3 years. At least we came out with a win at South Florida…

Anyone else feel like FSU was stronger and faster than us? Looked like it was a noticeable difference.
They were much more physical than Bama in addition to quicker. They were hungry and anytime you have a QB with wheels like his, then you have a shot. The only time we stopped them was by accident.

Outside of 2020 - which had an absolutely loaded senior laden roster with NFL talent and Sark at OC - the S&C has been a noticeable drop off since Cochran left.

I would have been OK with Lanning (mostly because I like his potential), but he wasn't coming here (at the time). Even still, on paper, DeBoer was 3-0 against Lanning.

We keep losing.... I hard disagree.

The money isn't going to magically appear because he losses more games. The very last thing Byrne is going to spend funds on is a buyout that large that squeezes and strains other areas of the AD, collective/NIL, and fundraising. For better or worse, his approach to everything begins and ends in terms of what is most financially responsible for the athletic department.

I know a way to get more money.

I think a large part of the HC experience part had a lot to do with how the CFB landscape was changing under our feet at the time. I'm not sure he will stick with that next go around, if there is a next go around for him. Still too soon for that discussion, IMO. Example, you talk about Penix being the key to his success. He has a freshman QB on the roster now that IMO will be better than Penix was.
