🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. CSU

Good - Passing game, all around. Thought pass protection was much better. Hurts was efficient and threw 2 really nice balls. Great to see Rob Foster make a big play and it's obvious that his speed is game changing... Would be a shame not to see him more involved from now on.

Bad - Secondary. Aside from Levi Wallace and Minkah at the LOS, they were not playing the football. Avarett is looking like a snack for good WR's right now... Also Harrison (or maybe someone else) had a busted coverage on a corner blitz that led to best CSU player running free. Wasn't an impressive night for them.

Ugly - Front 7. I can't remember a Bama game where 1 guy didn't flash as a play maker. Payne is athletic but not a pass rusher. The OLB play was indifferent. Mack Wilson was lost. Holcombe was around the ball some and Buggs hit the QB a few times, but in terms of pass rushing there isn't 1 threat right now. Jennings & Evans need to come back healthy & ready to roll!

On another note, just didn't see any passion or leadership. I think Minkah is 1 guy that speaks up and plays with that fire all the time... But after him, it's hard to make out an identity on D. Which hasn't been an issue in forever

Good- I see Jalen being more vocal on the field, and more comfortable running the offense. I think the game is slowing down for him. Paps going 2/2 from over 40.

Bad- OL, OLB, Coaches sabotaging the rhythm of the game way too early in the game by playing Tua.

Ugly- Trevon Diggs returning punts. Or should I say not returning punts. How many yards has Diggs let roll between this year and last ? How many return yards does he have ? Any ? Any at all ? Sure wish Ruggs could get a look

Bama is very beatable right now.

We've taken a big hit on the defense, and there is something wrong with this OL.

Good - Jalen looked absolutely filthy out there. For most of the game CSU was determined to have the DB's play off and just try to make the tackle on short passes. Jalen took what they gave him and trusted his receivers would do the rest (they didn't let him down). He was just a hair off on one deep pass but man that last pass he threw in the third was an absolute thing of beauty. You don't really get a feel of how strong of an arm he has until he see him close up too, he does it with ease and it's crazy how many tackles he breaks as a quarterback. Bo and Damien played great, too. Good to see Jacobs out there.

Despite the outside backers getting little pass rush, Raekwon Davis, Buggs, Frazier and company got several big hits on the QB which was nice to see. Minkah and Wilson got in on a few, too and Hamilton looked great when he was out there.

Bad - Way, way, way, way too many missed tackles. It's almost like our DB's are alergic to getting their heads around. It's time to see if Shyheim Carter or Diggs can get it done instead of Averette. I know, dont get too down on a kid but man he has looked pretty bad this year. Mediocre receivers made him look silly today. He NEVER gets burned badly because he's so fast but even when he's in position (almost always) he refuses to track the ball and instead just plays the receiver's eyes. That led to one deep pass, one touchdown and a pass interference penalty. It's time to let him sit and see if someone else can get it done. Wallace was guilty of that too but he played alot better in the second half, got a pass breakup on third down and tipped another into an interception. He's also a first year starter while Averette has had an entire year and he's just regressing.

Speaking of Diggs, I really just wish Saban would let Ruggs handle punts. Diggs constantly lets punts go and that resulted in one bouncing inside the 5 today and I can't think of a single explosive return he's had in 2 seasons.

Ugly - Absolutely zero intensity on defense. Mack Wilson is the only outside backer that has stood out to me in the pass rush. Alabama listed Evans as a starter but I never saw him in the game, nor saw him on the sideline (which kinda worries me).

The two's looked awful on offense and defense. To the point where Saban put the starting offense back in the game to make sure they iced it.

Something else ugly, the fans leaving at halftime. That shit is embarrassing to me. It's not even like it was 40-0 at the half (it was 24-10). A quarter (or more) left before halftime was even other. That's pathetic.

Oh, and gameday parking/traffic. Jesus Christ, every year it gets worse.

Good - Many times in Passing situations there was a very defined pocket
Bad - just as often, Hurts bailed from the pocket in face of no pressure? Old QB's maybe can 'plain this to us?
Ugly - the D play after the 1st qtr

Have to say I agree with everyone's assessment so far. Alabama is not championship caliber right now. In fact, Alabama has championship talent, but this doesn't look like a team at all.

Anybody else notice Jalen dusting off his imaginary lapel after one touchdown run and later holstering his invisible six shooters after a pass? Is he going into acting or does he have a condition we fans should know? Maybe I'm old school and behind the times. Maybe that's cute nowadays. Maybe he should rub his fingers together and make a money gesture. All the cool gangstas do that.

Last comment and you can attack me and tell me how little I know and to go die or something. Mods go to the front of the line. That seems to be the MO around here lately. The game last night was not enjoyable for me to watch. Maybe Colorado State was much better than anyone figured, and the Rams are going to win out the rest of the year, win their conference, and play in a big bowl. But Alabama had nothing to gain and everything to lose last night. Alabama had to call designed run plays for their only quarterback and put him in harm's way to beat a team they paid 1.2 million to convince to play. Instead of grooming a quarterback, just in case disaster happened, the Tide still had Jalen in the game in the second half running the ball - not working on the mid-range passing game or handing off, but running the ball.

If things don't change, this season won't end well. You heard it here first.

Good - Hurts looked solid as ever. Those complaining about his progression, leaving the pocket, yadda yadda clearly don't know jack shit, because the guy has clearly progressed and taken the next step. Bo and Damien looked solid, as usual. Receivers did a great job of getting open and catching the ball. The Foster touchdown was amazing to watch from our seats.

Bad - The offensive line getting abused for a third straight game. I can't tell from my seats, but it looks like our backs have ZERO holes to run through. It looks like a jumbled mess for which we have to rely on outside runs and screens to get our backs free. I think it's time to try Wills and Leatherwood on the right and see if that offers any relief.

Ugly - the defense. Plain and simple, we look like shit. Our defensive backs look like crap. I never understand how in the redzone and having the sideline as your friend in the endzone how you continue to allow a guy to catch fade after fade for touchdowns. Mathematically, instinctually, and athletically I jusg can't seem to figure out how this happens. As good as we recruit, how can we not teach our guys to get their heads around? This is an issue for why we give up so many big plays and completions, simply not turning around. Our defensive line gets zero, ZERO push. Payne does a good job of clogging up the middle which is his job, but the ends do an awful job of collapsing the pocket or getting around the tackles. It's painful to watch all these five star guys getting stoned by inferior offensive linemen. I am not seeing the issues at linebacker as some, but I see some completions over the middle I don't like, but otherwise feel they do the best they can with no damn lass rush to help them. Backers aren't built to cover, they're built to stop the run and hit. So I don't see why some believe they should be covering scat backs and shiftier receivers like they're 190 pound corners.

I'll be the one to say it, our team just is not fun to watch right now. Our offense is boring as hell and our defense does not look hungry or motivated. We look like a very intelligent kid that could cure cancer, but coasts on his abilities and does not study, making average C's and the occasional B in his classes. Maybe we're simply gearing up for the SEC schedule, but we go up 17-0 with minutes to spare in the first quarter, and just stopped. I mean, we just gave up from there in my eyes and coasted. I left at half because my four year old was not being 100% cooperative and focused, but once I got back to the house 30 minutes later it was just boring to watch. Better figure it out very soon, or these guys may end up with the same kind of reputation in McCarron's last year where they ssid guys didn't buy in and only cared about themselves.

Good - Won the game

Bad - Bland, pedestrian offense and another missed opportunity to work on something other than QB runs.

Ugly - Defense. All of it.

**In fairness it's been brought to my attention that I, and others that might share my opinion, don't know jack shit so take all of this with a grain of salt.**

Sorry, I said it in my post first. But hey, we agree.

You didn't play, so you can't assess the team. Got it?
