🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Oh So Ugly vs. That Ugly Orange

I was actively screaming at the TV hearing him say that.
We should start keeping track of his calls for comedy. I can't remember what it was he said last week that had me chuckling. Equally as stupid.

The defense is subpar and I am being kind.
You aren't being kind. I dare say less than honest.

SEC games this season...four teams averaging over 40 points a game and Bama has held the four to what? Half of their offensive production in PPG. UT is over 48 ... held to 20. The top three offenses in the conference...24, 14, 20.

Run numbers from last night? They were cut by over 20 percent.

Luke Robinson has shared the story where they were getting off the elevators and walking between the stadium and the cemetery. He'd seen a blonde lady he thought he recognized but couldn't put it together.

He ended up "photo bombing" her when she was recording a video...making jokes with her, etc.

Laura Ingram.

And you were / are right. The slap didn't bother me just a few years ago. But it was / is worth it. Roll Tide! Terry, I know to you and me, maybe a few more, we just beat our most despised rival. Roll Tide!
I was outside about two this morning and noticed the UT flag down the street had already been taken down. I haven't said anything to them in years about football. A fun football day all around.

A guy I've known for years married into "the family" a few years ago...I've mentioned him on occasion. His wife tried to buy him a 44 year old bottle of Aberlour for a wedding present. This was two years ago I want to say...I remember three distilleries putting out these rare aged single malts, one of them Glenlivet, and I can't place the name of the third. All under the Chivas Brothers I believe. There were roughly six hundred bottles sold among all the brands. The Aberlour, US over 10K per with 42 bottles sold.

Good- FOUR wins in a row against RANKED teams. No idea how many times a team has done that in 4 consecutive weeks, but it ain't many.

Another beauty of an opening drive for a TD by Bama. A couple of well designed plays that forced the Vol defense to rethink and readjust.

The OL gave up zero sacks... and the Vols led the SEC in that category coming in (averaging over 4 per game).

Zabien Brown's INT/TD return was the result of good coaching. The timeout by Bama before that play set it up and Brown made a great read. Outrunning that lone Vol and making him miss was huge too. But the Vols were going to run the same play as before the time out (and it was obviously going to be a pass in that situation). Either the UA staff knew what the play probably was from film scouting or they had a very good idea. Wommack changed the defense and set them up.

That 99 yard TD drive to close out the 3rd quarter, that culminated with a TD pass to Rico Scott. It wasn't necessarily pretty (the entire drive), but they got it done.

Keeping them out of the endzone to end the game. Didn't really matter except for the gamblers, but it was a nice little F YOU by the defense to close it out.

The defense had some issues still with a handful of run plays, but they limited an offense that scores 39 points a game (in SEC play) to just 20 points (and scored 9 of their own). Also, 4 sacks and 8 TFL's. That ain't bad. They did their part tonight. Some will bitch about the garbage yardage they gave up near the end of the game I'm sure, but that's all it was...

Will mention him later, but Daniel Hill had a nice game. As did the WR's. Germie Bernard is pound for pound, strong as hell and it shows when he's breaking tackles. Ty Simpson made a couple of mistakes but not really anything they didn't overcome. All around, a very solid night for him.

Yhonzae Pierre is making big plays every single week now. He's turned into the player many thought he could be and done so at the right time. James Smith and Zabien Brown made some nice plays.

Bad- I was worried about VanDeMark early... The first 2 or 3 plays of the game he got abused. But to his credit, he recalibrated and played better after that. He still got replaced by Dewberry late in the 1st quarter, but for a minute there, it wasn't looking good for him at all.

On that note, there's still too much OL subbing, IMO.

The screen game tonight was there in most cases, it just never really clicked. Seems every attempt was a SNAFU of some sort.

Ugly- Both the offense and the defense came out of the half flat and confused. They had a chance to take control of the game and really just put it away... instead, they gifted the Vols an easy 3 and out and then let them run it right down the field with little resistance for a quick touchdown.

The run game as a whole was a struggle.... again, especially in the first half. The Vols make it hard with how aggressive they are, but Bama needed much more out of the run game. As effective as the passing game is, there's just no excuse for it to be this bad, at this point in the season. I will say, Jam did not look very comfortable out there tonight, but regardless, the OL gave him nothing. Was good to see Hill get some touches later in the game... that was much needed and much more effective. I'd like to see them work outside the tackles more too.

Punting was not good.

Vols were 4 for 5 on 4th down... that's frustrating.

Notes- Not sure why that catch/fumble play by Lotzier Brooks on 3rd and 9 early in the 2nd quarter wasn't at least reviewed. It was a clear catch and strip. And it looked like he'd secured it. It was close, but close enough to look at. If it had been ruled a fumble, it would have been a 1st down by Bama, I think, based on where it was recovered.

Overall this season, I've been impressed with Aguliar. He isn't a great QB, but he isn't trash either. He fits their system and made a few tough throws tonight.

This crew also sucked ass at spoting the ball. Unbelievable how bad of a problem this is these days.

Matt Austin remains worthless. Zero point in having him on a broadcast. I know I say that all the time, but I don't get it.

This team is sitting pretty folks. Still undefeated in the SEC which is massive at this point. Another road game next week at South Carolina... and while that game looks much more manageable now than it did 8 weeks ago (to me, anyway), it can still be a very dangerous spot. This Bama team is beat up and they are tired. That looming bye week can't come soon enough. The game in Columbia will show how strong this team in mentally, IMO. But I hope the guys and staff enjoy this one tonight... they all deserve it.

Roll Tide.
Ditto on every point you made.

Good:

-I think Daniel Hill has found his spot as the top Alabama RB. Jam isn't bad, but he's just...unimpressive? I think Jam and Riley run hard, but lack explosiveness and vision to elevate Alabama's run game. Hill really showed up in getting tough yards and keeping Alabama on the field.

-Ryan Williams has received a ton of criticism for his drops, but he showed out last night. Lot of tough catches and good route running.

-Offensive line pass protection was really good.

-Germie Benard saving Grubb's ass on that throw back. TN had some awful tackling last night. Otherwise, that would have been a 12-yard loss with Alabama only up 23-13.

-That pick 6 will live in my head forever. Beautiful moment.

-Pierre is developing into an absolute monster. We need an alpha dog like him that just shows out and makes big plays on 2nd and 3rd down. Otherwise, offenses will continue to pick up chunk yardage.

Okay:

-Defense again. You have to give them credit for holding TN to 20 and getting some very opportunistic stops. This D thrives on consistently giving up explosive plays, getting absolutely gashed in the run game, but coming up and making a big play. I have no idea how to grade them other than okay. They're awful to watch and I still can't stand Wommack's god awful scheme. But you also have to give them credit where credit is due. They stopped the #1 overall scoring offense from breaking 20+ and got a safety + 99-yard pick 6.

-Alabama's punter. He sucks but he had some decent boots. Worst punter Alabama has had since Skyler DeLong.

Bad:

-Grubbs didn't have his best night IMO. Immediately came out conservative in the 2nd half, instead of allowing Ty to take advantage of a poor TN secondary. Alabama once again fucked around and found out when it came to maintaining momentum and taking the kill shot. Grubb is damn good OC that scripts a very good game, but gets way too cute at times. If not for Benard's heroics on that backward pass, that's a 12-yard loss.

-Deonte Lawson. That big explosive run by Bishop could have been stopped if not for him and Sabb taking a seriously god awful angle.

-The offensive line shuffle again. Stop doing it.

Ugly:

-Can we please stop the stoppage of play every single big catch or run. It's infuriating. I think the game took 3 hours and 20 minutes.

-TN whining about officiating again. You know it's college football season when TN fans are complaining yet again about officiating because they can't come to realization that their team sucks. Heupel has elevated their program from the bottom of the barrel to competitive. However, he can't win big games on the road; when he goes off script offensively, they're garbage; and defenses are charmin soft besides their front.

-Ty's near turnover on 3rd and 2. Dude just run it. No reason to be indecisive. DeBoer lit into his ass.

Great:

-DeBoer's demeanor has definitely changed. Mentioned him lighting into Ty on that near turnover. He had multiple times he finally ripped into the guys. Wish he would do it to the defense and Wommack.

-Alabama hasn't lost to TN at home since 2003. This is the eighth time Alabama has beaten TN by double digits at home since 2007.

-Alabama won; TN, auburn, and LSU lost.

I am being honest. 400+ yards given up (they outgained us) and I do not even know how many yards given up on rushing D but is was close to 150 I believe. Gave up 100+ yards against a running back. Bottom line if not for many of the Vile miscues this game could have been lost But you keep putting lipstick on that pig.

I do not measure Bama to how the opposing offense has done against other teams.. That is not the standard and I know you do not like that approach. Measuring to that standard wins champonships....

Good: Not a smoker, but I did take one for the team last night. :sneaky:

Bad: Running game was just bad.

Ugly: The tendency to to gashed for big plays on defense. Our "prevent" shit is starting to be the "Jumbo" package we had back in the day on offense for the defensive side of the ball.

How many of those were given up during garbage time, when we were allowing them to dink and dunk and burn clock? I don’t like it either. I want total domination by the defense as well, but I understand with a huge lead, you want the clock to run!
