This is one of those efficiency stat things ...

Vandy's defense is allowing 1.75 points per drive this season. The offenses they've faced are rated 79th in FEI.
Bama goes into the weekend at 3.75 with opponents ranked 16th in the DPD.

One thing that caught my eye. Vandy leads the nation in drives that result in either a TD or a FGA. Bama is 4th.

That’s a good stat and a little surprising. Especially given we closed the game with 4 straight possessions that ended without points or a FGA. That spell probably dropped us a position or 2.

I am always interested to see how Pavia and Vandy handle the game noise this week. I know that he's not going to be necessarily rattled but I also am not sure they'll be able to do checks and line or protection changes and that'll be something to watch for. Without being able to shift into a better call, they may not be churning yards out as much as the models are predicting here.

I also believe our defense is still way better than it has played so far, we haven't had great games but we've found ways to get wins within the games to make plays on defense. We've dropped multiple interception opportunities this year that we schemed up from the sideline...one of those has to fall sometime soon. Maybe this game?

I'm looking at what we can do against Vandy's defense and I feel like we can move ball against them and control the clock to keep them from getting in rhythm. I do wonder if we're gonna dare vandy to get into a shootout later in the game ?

I don't think that'll happen. I think people needs to wipe that game out of memory because this is whole different Alabama offense. Different team. Vandy is different.

I'm still hung up on their offense this morning.

Yesterday I mentioned how Vandy was leading the country in how many times their drives ended with a TD or FGA. They also lead the nation in OPD at 4.71. (Bama - 3.76.) Which takes me right back to murky waters I was wading.

OPD is a great indicator in my books. It has to be taken in context with ODA (an efficiency measurement of the opposing defenses an offense has faced.)

Bama's OPD as mentioned is 3.76. The context with that measurement is their ODA: currently 16th in the nation. (Common sense at play there. "Look how bad ULM is" has been a common cry. When compared to Charleston Southern's defense?)

As mentioned Vandy's OPD leads the nation. Why is the water murky? Their ODA ranks 104th out of 135.

This is what I've been saying all week, maybe not directly... But with the attitude of the QB, and how cocky he is coming off as, the players for Alabama, the coaches are seeing what he's saying on the interview. Last year, the team didn't take vandy seriously, this year I'm led to believe that I don't think Vandy are taking Alabama seriously based on what theyve seen with our performance on defense.

That's why I felt good about Alabama all week. I'm listening to Bama coaches and players and I feel convicted that they're putting in the work.

Being 5-0 and feeling cocky and making the statement that the game won't be close... What team that reminded you of that talked similar sentiment before playing Alabama? ND? Vandy? ole miss?

Credit where credit is due... Lea has reshaped that roster with the right pieces and IMO has done a good job of changing the old Vandy mindset. His best decision, IMO was bringing in Jerry Kill to help with the offense. That Kill/Pavia combo addition has completely flipped that program.

Alabama releases initial availability report for Vanderbilt


Alabama football released an initial availability report for its upcoming game against Vanderbilt.


Qua Russaw, Jah-Marien Latham and Jeremiah Beaman are listed at out. James Smith is listed as out for the first half.



Kalen DeBoer confirmed Russaw would miss extended time earlier this week with a broken foot. DeBoer also shared Latham would be out for the season
