🏈 🔎 Looking ahead to Tennessee. How do the Vols match up with the Tide?

Bassackwards. There's Tennessee in a word.

You're going to see this pointed to a lot, I suspect. UT isn't last in the SEC in total defense: pretty damn close. It's neck and neck with the Derby folks and about 40 or so yards less than UArk in yards per game given up.

At the same time they lead the SEC in total offense with almost 530 yards per game.

YPP is the only statistical advantage I've found so far. (Vandy and Mizzou rank higher.)

Way too early to say much yet, but there is a storm system set to move in late this weekend… good bit of rain and storms with it. As of now, models have it arriving early Sunday am… but if it speeds up, could make for a stormy night in Bryant-Denny. Hope not, but just a heads up.
Put rain in the prop bets and I'd bet money it'll rain. My wife bought tickets even though I told her I didn't wanna go.

Tennessee will stretch a field. That concerns me. Brown I'm fine with, but Dijon better put his running shoes on and flip his hips quicker than he did against Florida State. Saab looked slow against Missouri, but hopefully he can quarterback deep secondary.

I think we'll be fine, but we better not take our football off the pedal offensively like we have done.
Tennessee likes to force the opposing Defense to play man to man coverage so they can get the matchup they like. I feel like the best defense to look at is Arkansas. They had mixed results due to personnel, but they did force 3 fumbles and forced 3 and outs couple time. Petrino ain't no fool. I'm pretty sure the staff is looking at the film from the game and see what worked and what didn't work. I'm curious if we'll play 4-1-6 ?

Yeah, if Arkansas can play with them, we can run them out of the gym. They can score and they are faster, so we gotta knock them in the mouth quick like we did Georgia. Set that tone and we boat race them.

Unfortunate because his experience has made a difference. It is to be expected but not as confident in the other guys at this point in their development.
Grubbs spoke highly of Hill today and that Hill has been banged up since fall camp and is now getting to the point where he can do what he was doing in spring camp and all.

I think hill and Riley can handle this week work with little wrinkles of Washington or Dear.

Yeah it sucks. About the only bright side is he'll have some fresh legs at the end of the season and in the case of some playoff games... I'd guess that he's back after the bye, which is LSU. And that's the next game that he will be needed the most, IMO.

Not doubting the talnet but the experience can't be replaced w/o time...

Vols have the #1 scoring offense in the conference I believe. But, against mostly inferior competition - with the exception of UGA, their conference schedule is/has been favorable.

They will want to run the ball on us, and make us vulnerable on the outside, and deep. And they’ve had success running against almost everybody they’ve played.

We need to be able to keep their run game in check with 7 in the box.

Pretty sure their RB is expected to play, but he left their game against Arky late with an ankle injury and didn’t return.

Has anyone heard about their CB Jerod McCoy? Don’t think he has played yet, but has been expected back after tearing his ACL last year.

Their rushing defense has been atrocious.

Best way to understand is to watch last year game. Defense was all over them. Wommack should know what to do. Offense left 17 points in first half.

If it does rain... It benefits us more than TN.

In the nation this week. (Crazy little note: FSU, Vandy, and Missouri are all in the top ten for scoring offenses this week.)

I kept up with their game last weekend and one thing that struck me, well, two things...

UArk didn't look any different without Pittman. It was a lot like their game with Ole Miss. Two, I didn't see that Tennessee made UArk look any different than they did against Ole Miss or State. I know the score was a bit of a shock to people. I saw what I thought was average SEC football on a Saturday.
