| FTBL Updates on Alabama players that are entering the transfer portal...

Man, I hope Downs stays. Kirby sought him out after the SEC Championship game, so I felt that was strange, but now see if was probably an early step at getting in his ear.
Yeah I saw that also. Did not think anything about it at the time but now it adds up. This one hurts because this guys is a stud.

Wonder how some of these players are going to feel when their NIL deals are pulled because a team bought someone better. Or how some of these players are going to feel because they aren't getting the ball given to them as much as they want. You've got to believe that there are going to have locker room issues and coaches who get fed up with a team filled with premadonna's and players constantly on the move to "greener pastures".

How are some going to feel 20, 30, 40 years from now when their former teammates are invited back to campus for reunions and events, and they are left out. They are leaving a school behind, but they are also removing themselves from a pretty tight knit Bama Brotherhood... A Brotherhood that can be mighty beneficial in tough or difficult times down the road...

Keep in mind, main reason the guys leaving via portal came in first place retired about a week ago.

For the more impact guys, yes. Many were leaving regardless... and some like Bond and Proctor were very iffy to stay regardless. On January 3rd, I said we'd see about 20 leave... and that was well before Saban made his call to retire. Saban stepping down certainly changed it some... for the worse.

The folks saying Bama will be OK in spite of all the key players leaving and committed recruits de-committing must be wearing some damn fine crimson colored glasses. I certainly hope they’ll be “OK” but if forced to bet one way or the other, I would bet heavily against it. This is still the SEC but even tougher with the addition of two tough teams … and the 2024 schedule is brutal. So if by OK they mean 4 or 5 losses next year then I’ll buy into that kind of OK. If they use OK to mean the continuation of Bama being a top five team in 2024 that’s hope … not reality.

The college game has passed me by and I no longer enjoy it like I once did. I’ll be a Bama fan until I die but it’s tough to pull for today’s players and coaches for that matter.

We can put lipstick on this pig if you want but you do not lose the quality of players as Downs and Bonds and act like business as usual. The reality is the CNS factor is no longer in Tuscaloosa. CKD does not have the same street credibility. Will he one day sure but not right now. Bama still has the name but Bama with CNS was unstoppable. Bama w/o him will still be good but do not expect there not to be some down years (not sure how down). CKD is getting a clinic on the cut-throat recruiting in the SEC. He will have to significantly up his game as will the big donors in this area because we will not attract the same level of talent with less money because of CNS was the coach.

This is just the new world we are in post CNS.

I used to say Les Miles won because of the foundation the CNS laid. We have a great foundation but LSU did not have to deal with NIL and the portal. It took Les Miles 10 years to destroy what CNS built. It will not take that long because of the portal today. The flip side is that CKD should have a path to stop the bleeding as well. I doubt it will be a zero sum game because of how great Bama has been and the elite talent we have had.

I am holding my hope on the system that is in place and CKD past experience as a winner that he will flip this but not w/o a glitch.

Unfortunately, in todays pay to play college football... I believe it is business as usual, so get used to it. I don't think it is something that is an issue for CKD alone. Saban may have helped keep it from Bama for as long as he could, but I think it was going to hit us regardless of his retirement. I don't think Bond would have stayed along with a lot of the other guys, when there is more $$$$ to be had out there. Just the way it is now a days, unfortunately.

We still have some damn good talent on that team. The first year very well could be tough, but we’re going to be fine. It’s January and people are acting like the sky is falling and we’re going to be playing some mid tier bowl game, we’re going to pick up some damn good talent both in the portal and recruiting
