🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. Wisky?

Good - Passing game is electric. Dynamic players all over the field and a dynamic QB. Defense looked good overall.

Bad- Ryan Williams continuing to drop the football. He showed why he is so hyped but how do you not catch a ball that hits you directly in the hands and how can Ty truly trust him to catch the ball?

Run game still sucks.

Ugly - KO return. That was horrible. Bad penalties.

Glass always is half empty

We don't have an elite RB
OL is a work in progress. Not sure he has the right folks playing in the best 5
Stupid penalties that cost us
0 is so very average as a LBer. Makes so few plays after 4 years. 10 is the same just smaller
42 on defense has to be on the field due to his speed.
15 (with time) is a playa
Punter and PK doing pretty dang well
Our interior DL is a clusterfeck as of today and the Outside LBers/DL aren't any better.

I just don't see how we can beat folks that are good due to our OL/DL play and lack of a really good RB that can break a run longer than 5 yards

OH, that damn officiating crew is the worst in the conference. I would love to hit the head official with my driver because I sure as hell can't hit anything else with it.

What do you mean on ILB play? I know they didn't play perfect game today, but I thought they were solid for the most part.
Specifically #10 was moving to his left and allowed a blocker to stone wall him because he didn’t take him on with his inside shoulder, keeping his outside arm/shoulder free to make the play. Fundamentally sound defensive play is to keep outside arm/shoulder free.

Man, Ty showed some flashes of being an elite QB. He has a lot more pop in his arm than I realized.

Signs of life from our pass rush.

Wisconsin is not a very good team.

Our defense is at it’s weakest when teams run straight at us. We’re undersized up the middle, but maybe getting TK back will help out with that. And I had a lot more hope for our ILB’s than what they’ve shown.

Agree that getting Simmons some reps on DL is a huge benefit to our depth…he played well, but again I think their OL was pretty mediocre today.

Got to continue to improve every week, and we’ll be fine.

Good- Ty over the last 2 games! 41/45!!! Shit! A lot of QBs don’t get that against air! Glad to see Hubbard playing like he did last year when Sabb went down.
Bad- penalty when official ran into player in the coaches box! Those 15 yards were precious, because Talty had been dropping everything in the end zone for touchbacks. As a result, they hit the return.
Communication on defense!!
Ugly- LT getting injured. OL getting limited push in run game, especially late when we should’ve been just grinding it out.

Good - A good win over a decent team from a strong conference. EDIT: plus, Hubbard's redemption.

Bad - Three minute, fifteen to twenty second back-to-back commercial breaks.

Ugly - Not just the run blocking, but the entire running scheme. In my amateur view, the backs are way too close to the line, so that they have little to no room to adjust to any penetration, or utilize any forward momentum or vision. Plus, when we motion in a TE or other receiver, it's obvious they are coming in to crack back....unless they stop and face the line. Then they are just adding pass protection. Perhaps they're setting something up down the line in bigger games, but other than the double-reverse-flea-flicker-screen (which took longer to develop than it took me to type this) everything else seemed obvious to me.

When Justin Jefferson knows what he's supposed to be doing, he's a force. Flying around. He just needs to know what he's supposed to do, all the time, not some or most of the time.
I don't want to use the term "tweener." It's not right. But I can't come up with something that fits.

Yesterday, idly, I thought about JJ and wondered what he'd be like as a run stuffing guy playing in the secondary. I'm not suggesting a true nickel, but a hybrid type role in a defense with a 4-2 front, right?

As I answered myself (eheh) it was another question. Would he be another Sunseri? That's a no. Too much speed. It didn't change the thought, "wrong player for that position?" Idle thoughts...

You mention this and now I'm thinking it would give him another half a second for recognition.

Idle thoughts ...

Hill-Green did a nice job there.
Yep, they both fit it correctly. If you look presnap, JJ is aligned with the TE. That TE motions over and then pulls back to block once the ball is snapped. Usually ILB's will move back inside the box and depending how the front is aligned, will fit whatever gap needs to be filled. Im not sure why, but he stayed aligned like was still on that TE, he never shifted back over. Could be because they a safety in the box as an extra defender, or he just forgot to(I hope it's not the latter). Regardless, he still played it correctly. He was the backside backer, did a great job of scraping downhill, kept his hips and shoulders squared the whole way through, fit the backside B gap, and met the RB at the line of scrimmage. Also, great form tackle by him as well. Stayed low, kept his shoulders and hips squared on the tackle, hit him with his inside shoulder, wrapped him up and drove his hips into him, then finished it off. A fantastic rep by JJ.

Only problem I have is him not only false stepping, but him doing it with BOTH of his feet, then taking his read step and making the play. I don't know why we constantly have this problem since Deboer has been here. It very annoying. And what annoys me even more about it is watching Georgia's ILB's not false step once. It's a clean, crisp read step that allows them to scrape down, and stack/fit their gaps quicker. That's been our problems at times this season, just being late filling out gaps.

I've had thoughts/hopes about Qua Russaw being used more as an ILB for the rest of this season. He's struggled as a pass rusher so far(got a sack today though). I just wonder if it would be beneficial to him and Alabama if we had some packages where we put him there, and gave other guys reps that could potentially be more of an impact at rushing the passer. Russaw played a bit there today in certain looks, and looked good doing it. He's a good run defender, has the ability to fit his runs, scrape downhill and stack and shed blocks.... and when his technique is right, staying square, shooting his hands inside and using his driving hips to generate that power to knock back that blocker, he's damn near unblockable. Plus look at him, the guy is a mass monster. I would hate to be the one to block that. He's also got the speed to play sideline to sideline and be a coverage linebacker. The guy is physically gifted enough to do it, plus theres hardly any learning curve there. He played ILB in highschool. Just a thought I had about it today.

Good - Our seat were in the shade all game. The length of the commercials would have made it miserable in the sun.

Bad - 2 TDs dropped in the endzone.

Even badder - the concession stand nearest us didn't have anything but packets of ketchup and mustard for the stadium dogs. May be the first time ever my hot dog at the stadium didn't have sauerkraut on it.

Ugly - For me, the acoustics in the stadium are terrible now. I couldn't even tell the band was playing. Of course, my age has become a factor. I didn't recognize a single song they played yesterday except for Dixieland Delight and Rammer Jammer.

Better - My granddaughter enjoyed the day and the tour of the campus.
