🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. UK

I would love to see you go up to Jonah Williams or Cam Robinson and tell them that ball they are playing is "pussy finesse ball"... Can someone please explain to me what is "pussy finesse ball" about a screen or jet sweep?

On the flipside. ..

Why do you hear Saban HIMSELF defending the early east-west stuff as part of the offensive gameplan?

It's because he knows we don't have the stout, mean, physical, and cohesive/experienced OL of years past. Ya know, like 2010-2012 with beasts like Fluker, etc that would run it right down your throat and dare you to stop it, even if you knew it was coming.

So, we HAVE to make the opponent defend 52 yards wide to wear them down before we start imposing our will on them. Now, as this unit gels more as a physical unit, we'll be able to cram it down throats more. Until then, we'll just have to keep using the butter knife and rubber mallet, as you called it.

Call it pussy finesse ball all you want, but I call it playing smart.

Just my humble opinion.

Good question... No doubt Saban believes in Kiffin to a certain extent and thinks the E/W stuff pays dividends. But at the same time he's willing to destroy Kiffin on the sidelines and tell halftime reporters he wants to run the ball more. IMO He's somewhere in between you and I. He's certainly not going to throw his own OC under the bus again this year, or point out that it took 3 non offensive TD's to overcome the Ole Miss first half play calling shenanigans.

Can we really say this team can't impose their will from opening kick if we've never seen it attempted? Bottom line we've started slow 5/5 games, that's not debatable. Pointing out that we HAVE to do this in order to impose our will seems far fetched. It's not that complicated when you're flat out more talented than every team you're playing. Putting together long drives early in the game is going to wear teams down the most... Not to mention running up the gut would actually open up his favorite jet sweeps. It can work both ways.

Just my opinion, Alabama is still imposing it's will on other teams. We're just not doing it in the fashion that we've done in the past. 220 points thus far through 5 games means we're averaging 44 points a game...better than the the dominant offensive line.

Hell, think about how the dropped TD's and untimely penalties this year could have impacted the average.

We're scary good in my opinion, just need to get the offensive line adjustments in place and get Hurts to connect on the medium to deep balls better. Once that happens, look out.

We tried running between the tackles at the start against USC for 2-3 drives consecutively, to no avail.

First game, sure, and not much to judge our toughness in the trenches on the first game. But, USC's front 7 wasn't stellar, and we couldn't put together 2 decent runs against them till late.

If you notice, there's a vastly high % of plays in the red zone where we're not under center. Even on run plays. We're having to run a lot more zone stuff because our guys clearly aren't mean enough to put a hat on a hat and run a dive or iso.

That speaks volumes to me.

Football - Bama defense

While I'm with @TerryP on understanding why Kiffin does the screens and sweeps, but at the same time you are definitely doing a detriment to your team when completely ignoring glaring holes in a defense. Kiffin has a tendency to get far too cute for his own good, the reverse pass to the QB attempt for example may have been one of the more bonehead playcalls I've seen, and no matter what his game plan was it was not bright to continue down that path when Ole Miss was committed to keeping two safeties deep and daring Alabama to run. Not to mention when we did run we were literally gashing the defense, they did not have an answer whatsoever for the inside run. And yes the defense was tired in the second half and that made matters worse, but Harris and Jacobs were gashing them in the first half too.

IN MY OPINION (and yes I know that does not matter in the grand scheme of the things) after the first few drives when it was very apparent that A) Ole Miss could not stop the inside run and B) they were being hardheaded themselves and refusing to creep those safeties down to help run support Kiffin should have adjusted accordingly. They had no answer for any rushing plays up the middle, nor the read option.

Stewart: 4 catches, 2 yards (all screens), Harris: 2 catches, 1 yards, Calvin Ridley: 8 catches, 81 yards (45 of those on the one deep pass to him down the field, all but probably 2 more of his catches were those screens)... where's the success? There wasn't any success with the screens Saturday, Terry. None.

Again, I get trying to set up for something else but there wasnt a single screen that I can remember working until later in the game when we actually started running inside. In fact, the inside runs might have softened the defense up more for the screens and sweeps.

Interesting. Which side are you on?

Interesting. Which side are you on?

The one that results in you not whining like a child and continuously calling what Bama is doing "pussy finesse ball"...

Ignore the 9 million times in those rants where I said consistently I understood what the sweeps and screens can lead to later in the game, and also look where I have mentioned in previous threads how it gets old seeing people like you freaking whine about it despite the points and yardage that gets put up. I even pretty clearly said in that one instance I felt it was unnecessary because Ole Miss' inside was so trash. So go selectively find some more quotes and then go whine like a little bitch about jet sweeps some more.

Oh and how ineffective Alabama's best pass rusher is... god you are a football genius man, why aren't you on the coaching staff? Hell we might average 600 yards per game with you there.

Emotional much? Relax... Those are your words, not mine. Just like these:

All the drives in the second half (up until the scoring drive at the end)

Those are the screens and sweeps...

- Jalen Hurts pass complete to Calvin Ridley for 4 yards (screen)
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to ArDarius Stewart for 0 yards (screen)
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to ArDarius Stewart for 5 yards (screen)
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to Calvin Ridley for 4 yards (screen)
- Jalen Hurts pass copmlete to Calvin Ridley for 3 yards (screen)
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to Stewart for -5 yards (screen)
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to Ridley for -2 yards (screen)
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to Stewart for 2 yards (screen)
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to Ridley for 1 yard (screen)
- Calvin Ridley rush for -4 yards (sweep)
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to Damien Harrs for -7 yards
- Jalen Hurts pass complete to Harris for 8 yards

Show me the success there... and again using the excuse that its "to set stuff up for later" doesn't work considering you can point to about a dozen or more runs right up the gut in that first half that worked, a hell of lot more positive gains there than the screens and sweeps. So again, you're outsmarting yourself in that sense.

You complain about cry babies despite complaining about the same exact thing. If you'd quit picking scabs then I'll stop exposing you. But don't try and play both sides then get defensive when your own words tell a different story.

Me and SLO were having a perfectly respectful exchange... No reason for you to take it personally. RTR

So where are we 5 games in? Best I can tell, somewhere around the experiment of 2014. We were convinced that more than chicks dig the longball that season. We threw to run and we would spread it out. That was a major adjustment for all the graybeards to take in. Much like '14,' we still don't have a downhill run mentality. We are not as physical at the LOS, nor are we going to be as physical in this scheme. No point in fighting that. In 2014, I couldn't figure out what we were, first and foremost for the longest, and after 5 games, I would have to say the same is true. I'm just buckling up, cause if we don't know who we are yet, we are gonna know who we aren't, in these next 4 games.

You continue to point to one thread on one game... point to all of the other comments I made about understanding what the jet sweep and screens do to defenses... stop being purposely dense.

My train of thought is make the game plan as simple as possible to execute when you have a true freshman QB. Bo bumping into the Jalen based on the RPO is just asking for it. Fortunately, Jalen has been able to keep his cool when some of the bonehead plays happen... which is rare. Start very simply with the run game & then later try more of the RPO plan.

Heck, I remember CNS in the SECCG against UGA saying whoever runs the ball better will win. I distinctly remember this because they couldn't stop Lacy & Yeldon but Nussmier kept doing this dinky crap. Well, come the 3rd quarter we ran it down their throat. Sometimes, less is more & as stated earlier, being able to do the simple things well opens up the other options.

No need to man. Anyone who can read understands how childish you're acting.

My conversations are almost always football related and respectful. I'm all for you disagreeing and proving me wrong, but the Benedict Arnold move trying to gain cool points doesn't fly.
