Good- worked on punting
Bad- OL play
Ugly- just about everything else.
Uglier-penalties
Ugliest- 4th down call in 4th quarter and we line up with 3 WR, QB in gun and one RB STUPID!
Good-we won
Bad/ugly-we almost got beat by a back up injured qb because for most of the game our oline could not block, we could not run the ball and we didn't seem to want to adjust. On defense, although we only allowed 19 points, the tackling and penalties were awful. Did not see ANY of the leaders stepping up and getting in people's faces.
Continued good-maybe this game will wake some people up. We also managed to win in adversity that will help us in other games
My rant: why in the world do you not practice qb sneaks in short down situations. I hate lining up so far behind the line of scrimmage
Good——the Tide gutted out a tough win on the road; Bryce Young, Will Anderson & Will Reichard came through at the end when the game was on the line
Bad—-our receivers and secondary struggled most of the game
Ugly—penalties, dumb mistakes, multiple three-and-outs, run game bottled up most of the day except for McClellan’s 71-yard TD, Texas!s backup quarterback (who was hurt) came within a whisker of pulling the upset, play calling, failing to pick up the first down on fourth and a foot with the game on the line, pressure on Bryce Young the whole game
Good:
-Bryce Young making some big time plays down the stretch. Good to see him willing to take off and run when the time comes... It's basically un-coverable
-Brooks & Holden finally coming through in the 4th quarter. Gibbs as well. Should help Bryce build some confidence in them moving forward
-Jalen Moody. He was all over the field today. Really looked like the only defensive player that "flashed" consistently.
-Will Reichard. Don't forget he drilled a 50 yarder on the 1st drive also.... Sure is nice to have a legit kicker!
Bad:
-Pass rush. Was just expecting so much more. I understand the idea of containing... But just a lack of explosiveness and/or juice to make those QB's uncomfortable. Ewers was having his way before he went out.
-The WR play. The freshman & Burton drops stood out... But the Holden penalty was a backbreaker as well. Latu was solid most of the game, but it was weird to see him walk out of bounds on the last drive a yard short of the sticks. That whole group will need to improve quickly
Ugly:
-Penalties. I've never seen anything like that for a Saban team... Basically from all positions. Not at all what I expected from a group with so many returners
-The OLB's. One in particular. There were some absolutely head scratching mistakes with almost no explanation. On a personal level, that game may take him out of contention for some big time awards. Good news is it's so early in the year, plenty of time to change the narrative.
-The officiating. Not even in terms of the calls themselves, because Bama was basically self destructing. But the mechanics of how long those calls were taking... How they were announced...Reviews... That was painfully long.
Good: Bama has what Ali was talking about: “Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.”
Bad: If texass had beat us with a FG kicker named Auburn
Ugly: Before today, I'd never seen cheerleaders uglier than the team mascot.
This game will help us tremendously down the road. Roll Tide!
oh, another BAD...
Now in addition to hearing :If Cplt hadn't got hurt...: we'll hear :If EWERS HADN'T GOT HURT..." I am thankful that we won!
and... HORNS DOWN!!!!
