🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. OM

We were still vulnerable on 3rd and long and over the middle. Same problems from Florida and same issues from before. So I don't think he really fixed anything, I think we just had players step up. Drew Sanders had a killer game. To'oto'o was flying around and disrupting a lot. The defensive line did well. I just think our guys played more to their potential than Golding being misunderstood. Stopping the run and our guys playing assignment football stopped Ole Miss. We still missed a lot of tackles, guys were still open, and Corral hit 72% of his passes. I also think Kiffin going for it so many times on 4th Down helped us a lot as well. That is like gambling, you may strike gold a couple times, but the odds are not with you.
All coaches look much better when the players do their job and whip the guy in front of them. This was not the case at UF. I have been concerned and still am about Golding but this goes both ways.

Yeah. One thing i forgot...was some critical missed tackles....that resulted in big plays...mostly by DBs

Good: For three quarters, I thought I had gone back in history and was watching some great ground and pound Bama Football. Defense was aggressive, and, we WON!!.
Bad: Fourth quarter play. Offense was not as effective, and defense had decided the game was won and let up.
Ugly: Those consistently bad high snaps from center. I was fearful that Bryce was going to mishandle one and cost us a turnover. This needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY.

Ole Miss was 5-14 on 3rd down. That's playing elite D against an offense this good.

There were not guys wide open all day. Corral hit short passes and several slants off RPOs. A couple of those completions were stopped short of a 1st down on 3rd down. They didn't hit any long passes, they didn't fool the D on any wheel routes or deep over routes where the DBs let loose a WR uncovered.

Early in the game they hit some 3rd and Longs. We did play good defense, but were susceptible over the middle as we have been for a while now was my point. We just had our defensive line getting some push, Drew Sanders played out of his mind, and To'oto'o made some plays as well. I did not see one guy trying to defend two on the option this game. My point with all of that was I don't necessarily think Pete Golding is the man that's all of a sudden the reason for our success. I just think our offense allowed the defense to be rested, and that our athletes finally showed their ability. We did miss some tackles and I felt Ole Miss fell forward a lot in the game, but we did tackle much better this game than others. I'm not letting Golding off the hook quite so easy as some, and I'm dang sure not acting like he's been doing a great job this whole time yet. We played a great game, and I'm so happy with the way it turned out. Hey, I got my less than 30 and less than 400!!!

This just feels like unreasonable standards. Ole Miss scored ZERO points in the first half. It was 35-0 before they scored. The D held them to their lowest outputs in Kiffin's tenure there. Objectively it was a tremendous performance. You may have some subjective criticisms, but those are minor given how the game went.

Did not see the game live but saw some of the same issues just not as much. Was still good to see and hopefully they will get better as the season progresses. A running the ball control the clock offense absolutely helps the D in lots of ways stats being one of them.

I did hear CNS say on his show that they played in Nickel the entire game and did change even in the 4th qtr when OM was pass happy. Said it would have been better to be in Dime for what OM was doing but they had not practiced that all week so they just stuck with Nickel which was not as favorable of matchups as the Dime would have been. As they say the devil is in the details on the why sometimes.

Ultimately when you control the line of scrimmage and tackle well all coordinators look like geniuses and when you do not well you look foolish.

I agree with that and have said that. I just feel we are still vulnerable in the same spots we always have been. My response was to those people having something to say like Golding was back and never deserved any criticism. We played a great game, I have said that.

Yep, I agree with you. It was a great TEAM effort Saturday. Could have gone the other way, but our boys did great.

The Good - establishing the run to set up play action, To To was flying around, Bryce played well and defense tackled better

Bad - the way we finished the game

Ugly - the amount of shit I got to give my buddy the Ole MIss fan and the number of photos I sent him during the game of me eating popcorn.

At times, you seem to be a really cold, hardcore fan when it comes to serving crow. I like it!
