🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. Missouri

Did you see ONE Bama DL kicked azz or dominating his space? The best thing I saw on defense was the play of the two ILB over the 2 from last year.
Which is a direct result of the defensive line play. That's been a staple since 2007. It's how the defense works.

One of these two linebackers you're talking about here was Christian Harris who played well last night.

*I was flipping through a few channels last night and came across Greg Gutfeld's show. I didn't stay long but did catch a comment: CNN = Context Not Needed.

Game awareness and context are synonymous here.

GoodA: We have a kicking game! Both Johnson and Reichard were solid.
GoodB: Najee Harris and Dylan Moses...DAAAAAAAAYYYYUUUUUUMM!

Bad: Lack of spring training really showed

Ugly: Yeah, that last second TD

Bama is up 35-3 before they pulled the starting QB and started substituting on both offense and defense. The game was O.V.E.R. at that point. This defense, that you're calling "a bunch of average people" didn't allow more than five plays on seven of the eight Mizzou possessions.
3 plays, punt.
5 plays, downs
5 plays, punt
5 plays, punt
12 plays, 50 yard FG
5 plays, and the half ended after gaining what, a half of a yard?
5 plays, fumble.

124 yards, three points, and we're in the middle of the third quarter.

But these guys are average? No offense but I see average game awareness with that kind of take.

And, let it be said, I was impressed with what Missouri did last night. They were better than I expected and if they get a few things cleaned up should give UT a run Saturday.

I'll have to double check here but I'm thinking about 130 of their 322 yards came on two plays: busted coverage by a frosh on one play and then 75 to end the game. Larry Roundtree will play on Sunday's but it's average to hold him to 67 yards on 14 carries. As a team, the Tigers put up 69 yards. What was the average passing...they gained about 10 per completion (obviously the wheel route taints that number, but still.)

A solid opening game.

they were missouri...
Bama looked sharp for sure early on.
But tackling wasnt sharp...but it was first game...
Saw that in every game i watch.

but...it was missouri.....made the look good vs mostly 2s...or were they better than expected.... and remember how many players missed so many practices ...for missouri

it was a team in bottom portion of SECe .

I wouldn't go there yet.

The only team we really learned anything about, and that's limited, is Florida.
Tennessee, in spite of what people point to, are showing signs they are beginning to learn how to win late in ball games. That's a step forward.
UGA is what I said they were. They don't have a QB right now. And don't misunderstand that. When Howell the IIIIIIIII (or whatever that is) got settled in he played fairly well. There was no running game from UGA last night which is surprising to me.
Kentucky played well but definitely fell to the ghosts of JH.
UofSC is what we knew they were. Boom is likely gone (and it wouldn't surprise me if it's before the season ends and we see Napier headed to Columbia.)
Vandy scored more than expected and I guess that's saying something.

Mizzou played some 'scrappy ball' last night: played with a lot of intensity. They are tougher than last years team. They, like every other team in week one, need to clean up their tackling. I believe Drink did a good job preparing them for what was inevitable. Pretty good QB in Robinson as well.

I was impressed with Mizzu... They had a physical mindset and played their butts off. Front 7 had some players. New coach, new qb, crazy off season, etc. is a lot to overcome but they showed reason for optimism. I think they'll be super competitive, JMO

Playing SEC teams each week is going to be a real challenge especially in these 1st 4 weeks. It will be interesting to see if the AD's actually make a push for the 9 game schedule once this war of 2020 is over (10 games). 9 SEC games plus 3 games against the Little Sisters of the Poor would be might pick. Get at least 7-8 homes games each year so they can pay for sports teams that lose big money every year.

@Tidestalker after week one all we can say is the east is a one team race; Florida.

Right now I'd put Mizzou, Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky in a T-2 tier with UofSC and Vandy in a T-7.

I can see next Sunday revealing a
2-0 UF,
2-0 UGA,
1-1 UT (possibly 2-0,)
1-1 Mizzou (depending on UT so maybe 0-2,)
0-2 UK,
0-2 UofSC,
0-2 Vandy.

UGA is 1-0...the backup QB understands the offensive system better than the starter. He really stepped up and saved the day against what I believe to be the worst team in the SEC (Vandy with the Hogs). The Barn and Dawgs is going to be a interesting game. I give the edge to the Cow College due to their QB.

Freakin' typo...meant 2-0 vs 0-2 (possible 1-1 in you're right on AU.)

I don't have the faith in AU as you do. AU outplayed UGA last year in JH and still lost. They don't return near the offense they had last season. UGA's defense vs AU's offense? That's not weighing real evenly on my scales.

AU is a one man team with Nix being a damn good QB. They looked pretty average with the exception on the one big receiver that go get the ball . I think they're down a little at the RB department over past years. The OL is down as well. The defense is going to be OK.

16/27 for 200+ yards against KY?
I don't see that as "damn good". Closer to "average". If his name was Cates instead of Nix he would be viewed as good to average IMO.

Bennett the 20th at UGA was 20/29 for 229 yards, along the same lines as Nix, but Bennett is viewed as a borderline joke & Nix a can't miss pro....

What makes him a damn good quarterback? It certainly wasn't completions this past weekend. Three touchdowns when not a single back was able to run the ball doesn't equate to damn good, it's management.

Robinson had the best weekend for completions.
Costello had the best weekend for yards.
Trask for TD's.
Corral for QBR.

Maybe, just maybe, you're a closet auburnite? ;) 🙃

Good- Mac is damn good and as cool as the other side of the pillow when facing oncoming rushers. Dylan Moses looks like the Dude he was rounding into in 2018! STUD!!!
Bad- I think we took our foot off the gas a little too early. I do understand trying to establish depth.
Ugly- when Dickerson and Leatherwood took a seat, our OL play went to shit QUICK, FAST, and IN A HURRY!
