🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs Auburn?

You were on Strong's bandwagon a few weeks ago. I'm no fan of his.

Saying he was a very good DC at Florida simply isn't factual. He wasn't. Last years Bama defense, so often criticized even with the injury decimation and youth, did better than Strong's in an era of football that's completely different.

His second year at Florida was even worse than the first. Just like Zook's offense, they went backwards.
Strong was upgrade from what we have.
and i can tell u arent a fan of his
I was on "bandwagon " whatever that means because if Nick thinks enough of him to hire him as D analysts. I am on board with that

they did win a couple of NCs when was DC. That's pretty good.
So he must be pretty good!!!!!

As long as they don't start outside the 25 with a return why kick it in then endzone? A forty yard kick puts it at the 25; anything more with coverage is good to go.

There were two kickoffs which could have been better (at the 25 or inside of the 25) and their best field position was at the 33.

In other words, five of the seven kicks were as good or better than kicking it through the end zone.

Kick yardageStarting position
59AU 9 (with penalty)
56AU 19
53AU 19
51AU 33 (19 yard return)
58 (Chase Allen kicking)AU 28 (21 yard return)
54 (")AU 25 (fair catch)
52 (")AU 25 (fair catch)

Not my comment, this is from Gus.

Do you think it's by design to land so short? I know CNS didn't have Reichard kicking off to start the year... But there has been some adjustments

They gone through entire seasons with the goal of placing the kickoff much like a punter would try to down the ball inside the 10. We've also seen an approach to put it through the back of the endzone.

Based on what I saw Saturday they were kicking to corners hoping for a short return or at worse fair catch. All of the kicks Saturday were around the same distance from two different guys.

Strong was upgrade from what we have.
So Strong is better than Golding as a defensive coordinator but Golding is employed as a defensive coordinator while Strong has a position akin to a graduate assistant.

On its merits alone the comment that he's an upgrade is false. If you look at the numbers, as one mentioned earlier, his defenses at UF were worse than what Bama has fielded under Golding. But, he's better..ol' Charlie is?

As I see this there is, literally, no support for your assertion.

D has improved....go there ok...but last year n this year.... D isnt to bama standard...
And ole Strong has a couple of NC rings to flaunt

but again...not all in as a strong fan...just better than golding...
But only nicks opinion matters...seewhat he does afterthis year

There is no proof of this. Quite the opposite if you consider Strong took his position to learn while rehabilitating his image. Am I to believe Saban has a guy better than his own boss but he's keeping him back? He's not putting the right coach in the right position?

It certainly has improved over last year. That happens when you play guys who have experience and a team that's been fortunate with attritions.

Three areas I have seen improvement on for the D this year from earlier in the year 1) DL play doing their job (run and pass) 2) tackling across the board and 3) Players do not look confused. They are getting lined up and in position to make plays but sometimes execution is an issue.

100% agree with you here. Tackling is the biggest improvement in my eyes. Also, Malachi Moore flying all over the field has allowed us to close throwing lanes as well as taking away open zones where we were susceptible before. Can't deny what Josh Jobe has done as well. Him and Surtain or shutting it down this year. Haven't really heard Surtain's name all year, and that's because no one is really throwing at him.

Anybody have a replay of a pass from the 1st half that Mac threw incomplete? It was a play action pass, and he threw to a covered WR. They showed a replay immediately after from the camera angle behind the offense, looking towards the end zone.

Anyway, on the play, Billingsley is on the left side of the OL, and runs a deep over/post from the left of the formation to the right sideline, and it was a blown coverage. Wide open. Easy TD. Mac just didn't see him.

I know the exact play you're speaking of, because I thought the exact same thing when they showed it. I thought it was Metchie, but it happened so fast that I couldn't tell, just assumed. But yes, he was wide open and I couldn't figure out why Mac couldn't see him crossing the field so wide open considering he cut on the same hash Mac was looking to throw towards.

Was that a 3rd down play? Mac threw to a guy double covered. It was not in danger of being intercepted, but they guy wasn't open. Billingsley was so wide open it was shocking. It was another brilliantly designed play by Sark to get a gimme TD opportunity.

Probably one of the few bad plays Mac had. He should look at Billingsley more - that guy is going to be a difference maker and needed to beat teams like Florida, Clemson, and ND.

I believe it was. I took the -24, so I was looking hard at every play to see if we could get points and just boat race them, and that was one play where I was thinking I could lose this bet. That play, as well as the Robinson fumble.

Yeah, Billingsley is a hybrid WR/TE, could be special. We've had some really athletic TEs recently, OJ and Irv in particular, but he could stand out.
