🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs Auburn?

Bad: Not much
- Just kickoffs. Aside from the opening kickoff, I don't think they caught one inside the 10. Head scratching that there isn't someone on the roster who can kick it down to the goal line... Maybe we can get a transfer from Vandy - I hear they got some rising stars.
As long as they don't start outside the 25 with a return why kick it in then endzone? A forty yard kick puts it at the 25; anything more with coverage is good to go.

There were two kickoffs which could have been better (at the 25 or inside of the 25) and their best field position was at the 33.

In other words, five of the seven kicks were as good or better than kicking it through the end zone.

Kick yardageStarting position
59AU 9 (with penalty)
56AU 19
53AU 19
51AU 33 (19 yard return)
58 (Chase Allen kicking)AU 28 (21 yard return)
54 (")AU 25 (fair catch)
52 (")AU 25 (fair catch)

Not my comment, this is from Gus.

“They got after us on special teams, too. Their kickoff team, especially in the first half, kept us in the hole. We didn't get past the 20. We had some bad field position. We had an explosive 30-yard quarterback draw that got called back that was extremely tough. It felt like, that first half, everything was kind of uphill.”

  • Auburn has given up 35 point three times over the last three seasons: all to Bama.
  • This makes the 7th game in a row where Bama has scored 40+: a new school record. (I believe eight is the SEC record.)
  • AU has given up five TD's twice: Tua and Mac. (Bama vs AU games)
  • You can see the depth being built along the defensive line: no better evidence than the improving pass rush along with the number of guys we're seeing in rotation.
  • Outside of the 2008 game (followed by Tubs getting fired) this was one of the most lopsided games (AU vs UA) I've seen in recent memory. A butt whipping.
  • Auburn's secondary is better than a lot choose to believe. As example, they held Elijah Moore (Ole Miss, #1 in the SEC) and Terrence Marshall (LSU, #3 in the SEC) to a combined 44 yards this season. Smitty had 171.
  • 10 take-aways in last five games.
  • Healthy team, especially on defense, which takes some getting used to this morning.

Good: A tidbit that Gary Danielson shared that one of our coaches / trainers (?) said to Devonta, "We can improve your speed coming off the LOS." Very interesting to me. Have any of you heard that before? Man, what an upgrade in S&C techniques.

Bad: the fumble inside the 5 yard line. (but the barn didn't get points off of it so just kinda bad.)

Ugly: orange and blue in Bryant -Denny / Tuscaloosa.

Good - we have decent game manager.
Bad - "this young aubrun team fought valiantly against a veteran Alabama team"
Ugly - Blow Nix' flirtation with disaster with his bailout throws and end zone meanderings. I'm disappointed we didn't get another couple Pix.

It's been discussed a little here. It was a few months ago when you were dealing with your daughter, I believe? You'd need to search Dr. Rhea here...he touched on it in one of his tweets.

I pointed this out to my daughter during the game. Especially Tim Smith progressing at nose. Can legitimately play 6-8 folks in interior d-line now.
You've heard people discuss the number of points allowed over the last three games (16.) A nod to the defense finding its footing. Yesterday these things popped out to me.

Three turnovers.
Three sacks.
Eight tackles for a loss.
Nine QB hurries.

Plus - the back end of the defense NEVER looked out of sorts with the gus shifts & "eye candy". They looked PREPARED! Kudos to Pete!

Oh, and the "two worst linebackers in Alabama history" (Pointing this at you Josey) looked pretty damned good also!

Good: Mac jones pocket awareness and the defensive line and secondary improvements in all but one glaring area. Shutting up the booger eaters.

Bad: missed block by number 5 is why he isn’t on the field. (Look on smitty’s Face when. He got up..lol)

ugly: bo nix, Gus mahlzan, too many men in the backfield call against Leatherwood when Auburn literally has5 or more in the backfield on every snap by the same standard.

Uglier: Daniel Wright single handily gave up every big play and almost big plays against us. I don’t know why he is still playing. We should just play hellams or branch and deal with any growing pains.. Wright is struggling

Think Smitty gave a little ass chewing there too.

I was one of the hardest on here about the D. Surely everyone that watched the first few games understands why that was. The D has indeed come light years from those first few games. They still make me nervous even yesterday where they played a great game and then they have the head scratcher in the 4th qtr where they were gave up several runs on a 95 yard drive.

All that said great to see the improvement. They need to continue to improve the rest of the way.

Have a lot of D exertise as analysis
Sure that's coming into play.
Still not sold on DC.

We should have had two points! But those barn did score! Little Bo has to be the most luckiest player in the barn history!!

How much sense does this make?

We have a lot of O expertise with the analyst.
I'm sure that's coming into play.
I'm still not sold on the OC.
It's got to be Major's influence.

IF what you're suggesting was true, Strong wouldn't be "off the field" during games he'd be at least in the press box for yesterday. He wasn't. He hasn't been. He's a has been with another set of eyes.

more than strong. I think there is a lot of input on prep. Nicks way of doing things
Including O.
can just see the whole D is different. Prep/ execution etc

thats why he has analysis. D is definitely improved.

No Nick and only one defensive coach calling the sets. But, it's an analyst that has made the difference in a few weeks? Do you know who he analyzes each week? Bama or the opponent?

The truth is this. Strong has not shown the ability to stop an offense like Auburn's in his entire career. Not once.

ur hung up on strong. Actually was a very good DC for Florida. But i am not a strong fan
There are several analysts. Period

And really. Stop an offense like AUs. Lol
really?
You think thats a powerful Offense? Must be looking at last years game tapes.

which current DC didnt get stopped

You were on Strong's bandwagon a few weeks ago. I'm no fan of his.

Saying he was a very good DC at Florida simply isn't factual. He wasn't. Last years Bama defense, so often criticized even with the injury decimation and youth, did better than Strong's in an era of football that's completely different.

His second year at Florida was even worse than the first. Just like Zook's offense, they went backwards.

Very telling in Saban's pressure yesterday that the questions moved onto next weeks game starting with Cecil instead of discussing this game. Speaks volumes about how the Bama thinks about the Barn and their program.
