🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. A&M

Good: our kicker can hit the uprights from anywhere in any place no matter if it's a FG or extra point

Bad: penalties and undisciplined play (when was the last time Alabama had a player thrown out of a game?)

Ugly: the defense looked like it belonged in the Big12

Good- pass rush, return game, offense

Bad- Delong aka DeShort aka DeShank!! Damn!!!

Ugly- I can’t make up my mind here. Was it undisciplined play that got all of the penalties or was it the shitty officiating that threw some horseshit flags?? I’m really leaning toward the latter here! SEC officiating is just plain SHIT!!!

Some hot headed stuff from the defense , but sec officiating has become pathetic. Not sure I agree with the defense being a source of bad today. They're getting better and better , more 3 and outs today and better pass rush. Lewis and Jennings need to keep it up because they're the key to the defense

Good: Tua and Ride Outs as usual. Return of a pass rush. Special teams(mostly).

Bad: The 4th quarter non finish.

Ugly: Refs and Smith punching another guy's helmet like he thinks he's Luke Cage or something. Take care of your hands bro, they're like the most important requirement for your job.

Good:
-Tua & the WR's. That never gets old! So awesome to know that 3rd and long is not a death sentence. The INT was bad, but I guess I can handle 1 for every 27 TD's!

-Run game in general. The tandem was pretty effective today. I rarely think we run it enough for the sake of Tua's health and just to dominate the D physically, but I like how it was mixed in today. I don't think Harris was as North/South as he was in the last couple games, but he ran hard and didn't fumble. Nice game for Robinson who's becoming a reliable/solid short yardage option. Honestly it has to be him in those situations... He's the higher floor/lower ceiling option of the 2.

-Pass Rush! Let's go. Yes we gave up some run yardage late, but by then the game was almost over. And a big part of that was creating some negative plays that destroyed some drives. Lewis and Jennings are exactly what we expected. Barrimore is a rising Star, and Davis was solid. With the short commings of some of the DB's, its imperative we get a consistent pass rush

-Return game! Dayummm. Just lethal. Wadell and Ruggs were dangerous all day. Even Diggs had a good one. Wadell might be the most exciting player I've ever seen with the ball... Great combo of speed/quickness/strength. Fun to see those guys get loose today

Bad:
-Penalties. They were everywhere. Jennings with 3 off sides is absolutely unacceptable. I can't remember a game that marred by penalties. I would say though that the Battle PI and 2 roughing penalties were shit luck. Other than that a lot to clean up

-Mayden. He's just not what we're used to having. I have to give Shy Carter credit cause I usually put them in the same boat, but Carter played well today. Mayden on the other hand seems to have this combo of slow and out of position... Not a good one. Doesn't look like he's going anywhere soon but I hope we can hide him better. Have to give TAMU credit... Mond made some decent throws and the WR's made plays, sometimes well covered. One time Carter was in good position he's just so tiny he couldn't play the ball. McKinney on the TE touchdown... Good D but better O.

Ugly:
-Kicking Game. Holy shit. Bulovas is a disaster waiting to happen... Which is a step up from DeLong who is a full blown disaster. That kid is absolutely terrified... Just trying to get his foot on the ball at this point. That first punt was something you'd see in a JR High game. How you can kick a returnable line drive in that short field situation is baffling. Bulovas got lucky today but there can't be much confidence in him moving forward... Anything over 40 you have to go for. At some point this will really, really, really hurt us. Hopefully Tua & CO can overcome! RTR

Great: Offensive productivity. I think this OL is likely the best mix.

Good: punt/kick return, kick it to us at your own peril.

Bad: Defense is inconsistent. I wanted to say they had improved because the pass rush was better but then they do the undisciplined stuff with penalties, not staying in their run and pass rush lanes at times and to top it of they gave up 28 points.

Ugly: Punting and FG's. I think this game may have gotten DeLong benched or at least will get Saban to let someone else try it for a game or two.

Mayden was single handedly responsible for at least two atm scores

Good.- returners were a huge impact today. Brian Robinson, our db’s minus Mayden

Bad- mayden needs to be replaced by Battle. He is constantly out if position, takes bad angles and is pretty slow for a safety

Ugly- our in ability to beat the kicker in the return game. He was their leading tackler. Gary danielson.. please shut up.

It's a combination of both. A few times. You know me ... not a fan of pointing to officiating. I'll say it left me confused.

Take Barmore since he's been a subject of conversation. On one down hes being held. It was as clear as day on TV...in a double team, right? Then we see the brush to the helmet and flag resulting in points.

That's both undisciplined, and questionable officiating wrapped together.

Remember—and this goes to the "why aren't they playing Barmore questions—that's the second time this season that Barmore has been called for the same foul, right? And, it's resulted in two scores on the defense. Barmore, two scores. You see my point here?

Hindsight:

A lot more positive things to take way from the game than negative.

Barmore is one. That's been a straight up bull rush most of the time. It's fun watching him blow through. The packages they are using him with is something I'd like to watch again. He's been able to affect the pocket ... notice how the ends are staring to play with him in as well? (The title of this thread could be made about Barmore.)

That was a rough ball game. One of those that fit, "road fight." Tough ball game.

It was a deceptive stat line game again on face value. Rushing yards in garbage time is one glaring number.

That was the offensive line I've been pointing to for weeks with the belief "they can run the ball." I believe they did.

Focus is on the kicking game, being called special teams, and it's a misnomer. Bama's fielding, arguably, some of the best units in football. Teams aren't returning kickoffs opting for the 25. Waddle will be kicked away from soon. (Use two returners? ) Doing well there.

Through seven games you can get a good feel for a few units/statistical measurements. One I pay attention to a great deal is defensive efficiency. I've done that for awhile now, but feel it really comes into play in this era. I haven't looked at the numbers from the weekend but a quick indicator I've found is drives versus touchdowns. It was mentioned only five drives didn't end in scores in last night's UF vs LSU game. It's been trending that way on LSU ... all the while Bama has been trending as an efficient unit. That'll be out soon...if its not already.
