So much to say about this one...
First off, offense started off better this week than last but still was shooting itself in the foot the entire first half. Got it back on track in the second though. Jalen made some bad throws (receivers made some bad mistakes too) and the entire team seemed to have fumbleitis in a stretch during the game.
Despite all that over 500 yards of offense AGAIN against a hell of a defense. Jalen made some pretty wicked throws that more than make up for the bad ones. We didn't take enough shots down the field though. I know people were getting frustrate with the play calling in the first half but Auburn's interior was pretty stout tonight. The edge plays really made the difference and eventually wore them out to the point that Bo was running all over them.
I think this was the best game for the backs as a whole. Jacobs, Harris and Scarbrough all had really good games. Those late runs by Bo and Jacobs were backbreaking for their defense.
Stewart was out of this world. He had the one drop early but man hes really coming into his own.
One thing that concerns me is kickoff returns. We have yet to settle on a duo back there. Eddie was the obvious guy as the punt returner before the injury and it doesn't seem like Saban has wavered on Diggs being the guy since he went down, but we've had like 6 different guys back there. I thought Marks and Diggs would be the duo that would stay there after Emmons got hurt but this week Dieter and Stewart were back there. Need some consistency there.
What more can you say about that defense? I mean unreal, one first down in the entire first half? Just nuts and they got I think three chunk plays (the flea flicker, the one deep pass where Hootie bit on the read-option and I think one run by Franklin). Other than that they absolutely shut their offense down. Marlon going down with the injury was def. not a good thing but I think Levi Wallace really played well considering. Def. makes me wonder about those young guys (Carter, Mayden, Thompson, etc.) that a walk-on sees the field before they do. Hootie played a hell of a game too.
Best thing about it? We beat Auburn again and first undefeated regular season since 2009!
