| FTBL Fall Camp 2023 Thread

There are 5 QBs so "all 4" doesn't even account for all the reps. Lonergan wasn't getting reps with the 1s before just recently.

Lots of opinions on how the QB competition is going. Rodney Orr said last week that Milroe had the best scrimmage but Buchner had the best week. Others have liked Simpson but honestly I've not heard much momentum behind him other than people don't want Milroe because he didn't throw well last year and turned the ball over and folks don't think he can change those tendencies (legit concerns IMO, but the fact that Simpson hasn't come close to taking control of the race doesn't bode well for him IMO).
Let's revisit this after Saturday.

We can revisit it any time. Saturday. Sunday. 2 weeks from today. Whatever. If you don't think the various reports on the race are accurate, I'm interested in knowing your perspective. I just feel this QB battle is unique in the reports out in public compared to any other year.
Okay, I'll do my best to try and not ramble on and on about this.

Yes, we do have 5 Qbs on the roster. For the past few weeks, it has been top 3 competing for the QB starting spot: Milroe, Simpson and Bunchner.

However, Saban is giving all of the qbs a chance to separate themselves....

“Look, everybody got reps today at quarterback. I'm not a stats guy so we're not interested in what their statistics were. We are going to be interested when we watch the film in how did they execute? Did they throw the ball the right place at the right time? Were they accurate in what they did? Did they take care of the ball so that we have a chance to play winning football at that position? And that's what we'll be evaluating. So if you ask me a question about it, that's the answer I'm gonna give you,” Saban explained, per Sports Illustrated.

Lonergan has been slowly impressing coaches since spring and it continued into the summer and the fall, and yes he's forcing the coaches to include him into consideration for the starting job, but I don't think He can overcome three experienced QBs for the spot.

Saban is very intentional about wanting the QBs to get some reps with 1s/2s... to get familar with offense... in case something goes down, so I really think this is an overreaction by fans and media when hearing Lonergan news this week. The competition is still between with Milroe, Simpson and Bunchner.

We've heard conflicting info, but honestly, Everyone wants to chime in and act like they know something about this and that.... as of right now, I still believe it's gonna come down between Simpson and Milroe for the spot after Saturday.

Milroe to start the season, but I think Simpson or Bunchner will eventually take over during the season.

Lots of bodies on DL, several with lots of experience. We will see what the rotation looks like but there should be options

If some potential is tapped and some consistency is found, I expect really good things out of the group. That's a couple of if's that I need to see though. Week 2 should answer some questions.

Fowler is making a joke (sort of), but there's truth in it. For those that dive deep into scrimmage info, and days like today, I'd caution you and encourage you, to pay very carful attention to what you read, hear, and consider the source(s). Even beat writers and site moderators take one play, one rep, and shape a narrative around it... some fans are even worse. Just my 2 pennies thrown in before the flurry of "reports" roll in from the stadium...

Well there we have it we will be lucky to go .500 lol..... Seems like the Goat is putting some pressure on the players looking to see who sustains and does not wilt at key positions and in key situations. That will make it look like a bad scrimmage when in actuallity it is what is needed to see real seperation.
