We can revisit it any time. Saturday. Sunday. 2 weeks from today. Whatever. If you don't think the various reports on the race are accurate, I'm interested in knowing your perspective. I just feel this QB battle is unique in the reports out in public compared to any other year.
Okay, I'll do my best to try and not ramble on and on about this.
Yes, we do have 5 Qbs on the roster. For the past few weeks, it has been top 3 competing for the QB starting spot: Milroe, Simpson and Bunchner.
However, Saban is giving all of the qbs a chance to separate themselves....
“Look,
everybody got reps today at quarterback. I'm not a stats guy so we're not interested in what their statistics were. We are going to be interested when we watch the film in how did they execute? Did they throw the ball the right place at the right time? Were they accurate in what they did? Did they take care of the ball so that we have a chance to play winning football at that position? And that's what we'll be evaluating. So if you ask me a question about it, that's the answer I'm gonna give you,” Saban explained, per Sports Illustrated.
Lonergan has been slowly impressing coaches since spring and it continued into the summer and the fall, and yes he's forcing the coaches to include him into consideration for the starting job, but I don't think He can overcome three experienced QBs for the spot.
Saban is very intentional about wanting the QBs to get some reps with 1s/2s... to get familar with offense... in case something goes down, so I really think this is an overreaction by fans and media when hearing Lonergan news this week. The competition is still between with Milroe, Simpson and Bunchner.
We've heard conflicting info, but honestly, Everyone wants to chime in and act like they know something about this and that.... as of right now, I still believe it's gonna come down between Simpson and Milroe for the spot after Saturday.
Milroe to start the season, but I think Simpson or Bunchner will eventually take over during the season.
