| FTBL Fall Camp 2023 Thread

There's always been a narrative that the WR position is one of the easiest to transition...from high school ball to collegiate. That position group might be the worst when it comes to fundamentals—like catching the ball.
Yep! Some of these kids coming out, while they show out at camp with ridiculous times/testing numbers, they come from a very archaic way of coaching and offenses. Coach Saban would’ve loved the WRs we put out during my coaching time at Sylacauga. We ran the Wing T and we could stalk, crack, or cutoff block and sustain our blocks better than any in the state!! The forward pass was nonexistent in our HCs playbook!😂
HS get even less time for practice and even fewer hours in pads, due to AHSAA rules. Catching a football is just like hitting a baseball. It only improves with unlimited reps!

Hoping one thing that gets reinstalled in the offense are WR screens and properly teaching guys how to block for them. To me, that builds chemistry and a bond with your group, showing selflessness. Also, as many athletes as Alabama has, you want to get your guys the ball quick and allow them to work in open space. Ridley, Julio, Cooper, Devonta, and Waddle all had TDs from WR screens.

Would love to see Julio and OJ Howard size guys that can handle that brutality… We need some receivers that are big and very physical too..ones that can fight for a ball..

He was a big physical hard to tackle tight end used like a reciever…I would like to see some real brawlers too… over 6 foot… over 200… reminiscent of Michael Irvin or AJ Brown..
Unfortunately the only time we used OJ as a wide receiver were a few times. He had one TD lined up as a receiver vs LSU in 2013 and then one vs Clemson in the first title game matchup.

Since we're on the topic of TEs, I think we need to remember how important that position was in every season Alabama has won the national championship. Collin Peak, Brad Smelley (H-Back), Michael Williams, OJ Howard, Miller Forristal, and of course Billingsley in 2020.

While we're talking about TEs.... Let's look at the depth chart for TE:
CJ Dippre
Amari Niblack

Robbie Ouzts
Danny Lewis
Miles Kitselman

This is what I expect those two in bold to play a lot. Ouzts will play a lot as well.... especially in goaline situation.

I think Ouzts get more time than most people think. From a relative low ranked recruit to getting more playing time than most already exoected, I think he'll be on the field a ton this year.
