Until someone is behind the podium...According to reports, the source of this is a Eugene Oregon News cast that broke the story saying Lanning pushed his players meetings back 2 hours for tomorrow and left on a plane today to Alabama to interview and possibly be offered the job.
A lot of people are thinking "offensive minded coach" when the BOT is currently thinking the opposite direction.Sark would have been my first choice, assuming Kirby wasn’t budging. I’m sure they kicked a few tires before landing on Lanning.
Lanning will be a solid hire though.
UA’s legacy has always been defense. Bryant,Stallings, Saban etc. I would think a defensive guy would get 1st call.A lot of people are thinking "offensive minded coach" when the BOT is currently thinking the opposite direction.
I want Lanning, but all the rumors remind me of "Byrne has visited with Thad Matta" only to hire Nate Oats lol

If you come across anyone, anywhere, saying that a $20 million buyout is a non-starter, then that's a good sign that they are out of their depth on this particular assignment.
I understand that Lanning is in Tuscaloosa.
I'm not saying this is in concrete (a lot of stuff flying around), but I don't think Lanning would be in Tuscaloosa unless/until he was hired.
I'll say this... this search may end today. It may drag on for a week. But there's going to be (and already has been) a shit ton of rumors, and even people are are very reputable are going to get caught up in the wash if they aren't careful. News like this, at a place like Bama, breeds hysteria... not just among fans, but among media. And I agree, that while Lanning was/is the horse I'm (still) betting on for now, the amount of billowing smoke around that is concerning (if he's the guy you want) at this point. Especially if it drags on past today.
And one last note on Lanning (in particular). If you come across anyone, anywhere, saying that a $20 million buyout is a non-starter, then that's a good sign that they are out of their depth on this particular assignment.
I will now pour the concrete on that.
And Nutt arguably would've done probably better than Les Miles, with LSU's recruiting base.As much as I love Saban and all he did........I hope this is not the case.
He recommended Houston Nutt to replace him at LSU when he left.
