🏈 This year's JR class may not be finished yet- Devonta Smith returning?

If that site is correct... I don't see the big deal between 15/16. I do see the difference in 1st & 2nd

No. 12$15,827,165$9,530,665
No. 13$15,390,626$9,213,183
No. 14$14,663,059$8,684,043
No. 15$14,372,048$8,472,399
No. 16$13,498,945$7,837,414
No. 17$13,207,916$7,625,757
No. 18$12,844,137$7,361,191
No. 19$12,625,859$7,202,443

If you look at the total value several spots above and below 15/16, the drop in total value from 15 to 16 is the largest, almost $875 thousand vs. $290 thousand 14-15 and $290 thousand 16-17. For whatever reason, perhaps the collective bargaining agreement, there is a larger dropoff at 15-16.

Man...talk about...asDusty Sprinfield would sing...."wishing and hoping "
No receiver...no player....no Tua....are coming back.... no first round projected player....is coming back...
Just .wishing an hoping".... would make zero sense....need to moveon with a new team....

Not all of these guys are projected first round. Recent players have gone out and dropped like a rock in the draft - Ronnie Harrison, Mack Wilson, Deionte Thompson are just a few.

My recollection was a little different on the difference in late first, mid-second money, so I went looking. If there was no material difference in money between late first and mid-second rounds, Coach Saban's advice wouldn't really be sound.

This site may not be authoritative, but it shows a big difference between 28th and mid-second.

They show the 28th pick to have a total value of $11.4 million, including a signing bonus of $6.3 million.
No. 28$11,388,994$6,302,905
Second round money is shown in three ranges. Mid-second round would be about pick 48, so it would be at the low end of the middle range:

Pick RangeTotal ValueSigning Bonus
Picks 33-41$7,650,500 to $7,125,435$3,584,000 to $3,202,135
Picks 42-48$6,994,472 to $6,077,737$3,106,889 to $2,440,173
Picks 49-64$5,932,210 to $4,578,946$2,334,334 to $1,350,142
80 percent more total value, over 2 1/2 times the bonus.

RTR,

Tim

I stand corrected. I was going from what I thought I had remembered about all of that capping rookies stuff.

Yeah.... But that ain't a "stay for senior year" type of drop off.... lol

So, 15/16 is basically a point a lot of players go towards if their public comments are accurate (probably meaning first half of first round more than anything), although they really should be shooting for something more like 8 or higher to make a real difference. Last year #1 was $35 million and #8 was $19.8 million.

Big difference between first and second is less about money and more about guaranteed money. First round is mostly guaranteed money (*last year up to #24 was fully) and the team has a fifth year option. Second round starts being more and more not guaranteed money and there is no fifth year option.

Last pick of Round 1 was N'Keal Harry. His total contract was $10.098 million and guaranteed was $7.7 million.

First pick of Round 2 was Byron Murphy. His total contract was $7.989 million and guaranteed was $5.6 million.

Pick #48 was Erik McCoy with a total contract of $6.077 and guaranteed $3.2.

Maybe someone can help me - But when did this top 15 thing come into play?
Didn't the "top 15 go, after that stay" come from early articles about Tua's future? In fact, now that I'm thinking about that, it seems that's something that Tua said during one of his interviews.

Man...talk about...asDusty Sprinfield would sing...."wishing and hoping "
No receiver...no player....no Tua....are coming back.... no first round projected player....is coming back...

Josh admits his approach is expect the worse, if it's better it's gravy.

Now you're being as adamant as I felt he was. Based on what?

We do not know what they will do.
We do know what both McNair and Walsh have said. (Anywhere from 50-75% chances some of these guys are returning.)

In the recruiting thread @T&B has running I mentioned how I don't trust a thing that comes from Mike Farrell. There's reason. There's precedent. If someone were to quote Finebaum here that would be highly questioned/doubted. Why? Again, reason and precedent.

But now we're talking two different animals with McNair and Walsh. When have they ever thrown shit at the wall hoping it would stick? Seriously, where's the precedent? They're saying there's a good chance we'll see several of the Juniors return. Why have such adamant doubts? Those are based on what?

I agree. Please convince me with facts.
...
It doesn't matter what my opinion is. I would love it if they stay. If they are talking about staying, that's great too. If the moolala is there to go They ain't staying JMO
When it comes to their decisions it doesn't matter what any of our "opinions" are on the matter. But, like with Josh and 50+, stating your opinion so vociferously makes me wonder Why? d

The latest from you guess it The Boz ovah at the Bama Rant...
from my best source:

· The only Juniors that are 100% gone at this point are Jeudy, Wills, Najee , Lewis and Mckinney

· Ruggs and Smith staying or going is tied to Tua.

· Tua is 50/50 right now. The feedback that he might slide to 17th or lower has him really concerned about the loss of guaranteed $$ and he also wants to prove his durability and have his own NC on his resume as a starter. A final decision from Tua is not expected for several weeks. Galu is more in the stay camp FYI.

· Leatherwood and Moses plan to come back right now.

· The 2020 OL as of now LT- AL LG-LD C- DD RG- DB and RT-EN

· Both Golding and Baker are gone. Watch for Bo Davis as DL coach if CNS can get it to fly with Compliance.

· The coaches feel Trey Sanders will be a huge difference maker in 2020. “electric in space”

· CNS is re-evaluation the type of recruit he brings into the program going forward. This goes beyond Anoma and Alfano. He felt there were way too many toxic players on the team in 2019.

· The staff has already discussed the possibility of Tua coming back with Bryce Young and he is good with it if it were to happen.

Things that might be true.

Glad ur on same page with me Terry about Kirk and Chris. They've never thrown shite up against wall for the hell of it. I follow Josh's logic about being surprised if it happens but others don't make sense with the "they ain't coming back" Bs. I could see Smitty back for sure bc his stock is only gone up lately, but he's not a first round lock.

to me it's about like going fishing and ex pecting to not catch a bite. It's not a half glass full kind of thing but more like an empty glass kind of approach.

@#80, don't know if you caught it or not ... Lewis has resurrected a Ryan Anderson post from a few years ago with "ain't practicing no more for free." {sic}

Safe to say he's sitting for the bowl game.

What an ungrateful little shit!!! Free room and board, free education, spotlight, top notch coaching...I can’t stand entitled people...finish out the season with the team...at the very least don’t act like a victim...🤦‍♂️

I think you look at that compared to where you could be the next year. Tua, Tuggs, Smith, and Leatherwood could ALL be within that Top 15 range next season as compared to first three rounds this year. There is simply zero room for that many guys this year to pull that kind of draft position from Alabama. Tua is a Top 5 guy. Ruggs can be a Top 10 guy, Smith can be a Top 15 guy, and Leatherwood can be a Top 10 guy. Very curious why Leatherwood ain't pulling that grade so far this year, but with one more year each of these guys are looking at multi-million dollar differences in my mind. That's strictly if we are looking at it from dollars and cents, nothing about family life, wellbeing, and the other important factors.

Tua is looking at a difference of about $15-$20M if you ask me.

No I didn't I think it would have been smart to keep that to himself. I wish him well but if he still has a medical issue it will be found. NFL teams will vet him will all the injuries he has had.

Let's not forget one thing here folks.

When it comes to the grades these guys will get from the NFL, remember there's a limit to five per team. It's up to the school's administration which five receive those grades.

A lot of speculation on where players will end up in the draft and right now there are too many in the "discussion portal." I wouldn't relish the role of deciding who gets the grades and who doesn't.
