šŸˆ This year's JR class may not be finished yet- Devonta Smith returning?

I think Young realizes that he needs a year in the weight room and he may not be too concerned about Tua. If Tua stayed and Mac did also, that MIGHT cause some concern.
The QB room next year, either way, will be pretty impressive.
Tua- senior
Mac? Redshirt Junior
Lia- Sophomore
Tyson- Redshirt Freshman
Young- True Freshman
No Tua still leaves a pretty damn good room.

I am hopeful that we can keep the Jr QB recruit from North Carolina. I believe he will be aight. Coaching changes really screwup recruiting sometimes.

It seems every year that there are rumblings about juniors expected to leave early coming back because of ā€œunfinished businessā€.. However, by mid January, the sting and disappointment of season goals not met have lessened and the thought of a bunch of money versus waking up for class for another year sets in.

I doubt there will be any more than 1 ā€˜surprise’ returner. (Not including Tua because his situation is complicated due to the injury).

Money talks BS walks. If the money is there they will go. It is nice and honorable to want to come back for the team, but there has to be some predictions out there that will help them make a financial decision about their future. When the call comes for the right amount of bank money they will go go go. Has Tua had the team meeting yet?

I kind of forgot about Tyson. If Tua comes back, I could not see Saban having 5 scholarshiped QB's. Generally I'm all for piling them up.... But if you're #5.... Might not be your turn, EVER. lol. No reason to split that many reps when development is so important for those guys.

I hope you're right in regards to Young being OK next year regardless. But knowing how the recruiting process works, as you do, I highly doubt the sales pitch was "Tua may come back, and that is good for you". I'm thinking it was more like "There will be a competition, may the best man win!". Now I'm sure it's fair to say Tua may still not be healthy or the same... But that's a tough sell. He's still That Dude

Yep tua staying benefits Bryce more...he and his dad are sold that UA sets him up for success better than anyone. Learning and bulking up as well as being able to play in at least 4 games helps his development. Our system and program fit him similari to what he's been in at Mater Dei.

Who are you taking about? We've seen discussions on kids that fans felt needed to come back but I haven't seen anything other than a lot of fan expectations, or rather fans' hopes and opinions.

@BamaBoyJosh @RollllTide! if you guys are saying "I'm hedging my bets" I'd get that. After all, all that's been said in these reports are these guys are considering returning.

Calling it nonsense? Based on what precedent with Walsh or McNair? Convincing with facts? The facts have been laid out. There are players considering returning.

Both of you guys have taken adamant stances here. What leads you to such speculation?

This JR has been close since the recruiting days. In my opinion/guess, I think it really hinges on Tua’s decision. If he stays I think a good % stay too. If he goes I think the rest go too.

This is just a semi-educated guess from tid-bits I’ve heard in media... take with grain of salt for sure.

It doesn't matter what my opinion is. I would love it if they stay. If they are talking about staying, that's great too. If the moolala is there to go They ain't staying JMO

Too much smoke from different places that certain guys are thinking of coming back. But some are going to get those top 15 draft projections and should go.

Maybe someone can help me - But when did this top 15 thing come into play?

I was under the impression that the big difference was 1st round & second round due to the guarantees associated with it & potential 5th year.

Obviously the higher you're drafted the better, but I don't know the difference between 15 and 16.

I can't be disappointed if I think the worst is happening.

A few years back the NFL put a cap on how much rookies can get in a contract, so it pretty much dropped everything across the board. Now, the top half of the first round there is a lot more guaranteed money than the bottom half. Pretty much there is no difference if you are the 28th pick in the first round and the middle the second round.

My recollection was a little different on the difference in late first, mid-second money, so I went looking. If there was no material difference in money between late first and mid-second rounds, Coach Saban's advice wouldn't really be sound.

This site may not be authoritative, but it shows a big difference between 28th and mid-second.

They show the 28th pick to have a total value of $11.4 million, including a signing bonus of $6.3 million.
No. 28$11,388,994$6,302,905

Second round money is shown in three ranges. Mid-second round would be about pick 48, so it would be at the low end of the middle range:
Pick RangeTotal ValueSigning Bonus
Picks 33-41$7,650,500 to $7,125,435$3,584,000 to $3,202,135
Picks 42-48$6,994,472 to $6,077,737$3,106,889 to $2,440,173
Picks 49-64$5,932,210 to $4,578,946$2,334,334 to $1,350,142

80 percent more total value, over 2 1/2 times the bonus.
