I looked a little deeper, which isn't saying much, into the CFP rankings late last night and I want to add this to my previous thoughts from yesterday... I talked about the perils of going on the road as a lower seed, even against a lesser team. And while I still think that is a spot UA needs to avoid (those 9-12 seeds), it really shouldn't be an issue at this point unless they lose the SECCG, at which point I think it would come into play. But if Alabama wins out against OU and auburn, they should be no lower than 8th in the Playoff Poll with the way things are trending, which would award UA a home game.
Just for a look into what I'm expecting... BYU and Tennessee slide down after their loses, most everyone else moves up tonight. I think the top 5 remain the same... Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, and Indiana. The loser of this Saturday's Ohio St/Indiana game will obviously drop in the pack, thus moving several teams up another spot next week (including Bama). Then you have Notre Dame, Miami, Bama, UGA, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Boise in that second group. SMU, Texas A&M, Kansas St., and Colorado looming below the cut line for now.
Basically, I see it very close to this later tonight [remaining games in brackets]...
1. Oregon (11-0) [Washington]
2. Ohio State (9-1) [Indiana, Michigan]
3. Texas (9-1) [Kentucky, @ Texas A&M]
4. Penn State (9-1) [@ Minnesota, Maryland]
5. Indiana (10-0) [@ Ohio State, Purdue]
6. Notre Dame (9-1) [Army, @ USC]
7. Miami (9-1) [Wake Forest, @ Syracuse]
8. Alabama (8-2) [@ Oklahoma, auburn]
9. Ole Miss (8-2) [@ Florida, Mississippi State]
10. Georgia (8-2) [UMASS, Georgia Tech]
11. Tennessee (8-2) [UTEP, @ Vanderbilt]
12. Boise St (9-1) [@ Wyoming, Oregon State]
-----------------
13. SMU (9-1) [@ Virginia, California]
14. Texas A&M (8-2) [@ auburn, Texas]
15. BYU (9-1) [@ Arizona State, Houston]
16. Colorado (8-2) [@ Kansas, Oklahoma State]
Personally, I think BYU should be toast at this point. And Penn State, Indiana, Notre Dame, and Miami are over ranked, but it is what it is. I would love for Bama to get matched up at home or a neutral site with any of the 4 though if it can work out that way.
As it pertains to Alabama... South Carolina will be ranked, that's a quality win. I think Missouri will still be holding on in there too, which is important, and hopefully they can win out as it would lock them into the top 25 even if they are on the wrong side of the of it tonight.
