| FTBL The Road to the SECCG and the playoffs

Do the Four P4 conference winners get the top 4 spots? Or does it still go by rankings?
Rankings. Their rankings.

"The CFP Selection Committee ranks the top 25 teams at the end of the season. For the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the 12 playoff participants consist of the five highest ranked conference champions, plus the next seven highest ranked teams. The four highest ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and receive a first-round bye. The schools seeded five through eight will host those seeded nine through 12 in first-round games."

It's still really too early to get caught up into the playoff debate web at this point, but for the sake of discussion... The idea that if Bama makes it to Atlanta, but loses, and they are left out, is not really based in any solid reality that we can point to. The 12 team playoff is not a 4 team playoff, but even in the 4 team playoff we saw the Committee place high value on teams that reached their conference championship games, even if they lost. And while I admit that under this new format, there is some unknown territory, based on how they've handled things in the past, and based on what Bama's analytical numbers would look like if they win their next 2, I just don't see them leaving UA home, barring an absolute disastrous showing in the SECCG. That said, if Bama has a rematch with the Vols in Atlanta, I'd be a tad nervous of Bama advancing (as of now), if the Vols were to win again. But on that same token, if Bama went 0-2 against the Vols this season, they don't deserve s shot at the trophy.

One other thing I'll mention... for those wanting Bama to just claim a seed 9-12... that's fine. But you're then looking at Bama playing on the road, and possibly in a cold weather game, which wouldn't be ideal. If they could luck up and get Miami? Sure. But don't overlook the difficulty of this team going into a cold weather environment on the road, even against a lesser team. Either give me a 5-8 seed, or give me the SECCG win and bye.
I think I would rather take the chance of playing on the road four straight times then I would possibly losing an SEC championship game taking a third loss and not even making it. Although I’m not all that afraid of Texas anymore, they haven’t looked good and if our defense keeps it up, I think we would beat Texas neutral site. it would be gratifying to win the SEC this year but I am totally fine being 9 through 12 in the playoffs.

The possibility of playing Indiana just makes me smile, Penn State does a really good job running the ball and they have a really good defense, but I think we would simply out athlete that team, I think Notre Dame believe it or not actually looks really good. otherwise I can’t think of anyone that we would face That I would be nervous about

But like someone said in an earlier post, it’s still a little bit too early to totally freak out, although that’s what we are all good at freaking out early

🤣

If it was still just 4. We would be begging to get in sec conference game. Lol
And with 2 losses. Would be probably be out regardless

But. Haven't had chaos Saturday yet.

On one level, I agree, but a few thoughts. First, we'd only play one away game if 9-12, the rest are neutral site. Second, we could miss the SECCG and still reach number 8 and host the first game. Third, I think if we win out, go to the SECCG and lose a close contest, we still get in. albeit at 11 or 12.

In a perfect world, we play three more games in Atlanta.

We do well in Atlanta.

Wonder what happens if A$M upsets TX. Everyone in sec has 2 losses. Game is @A$M.

One thing to remember, A&M only has one conference loss. The other was to ND. So if A&M beats Tx I would think they would be in the SEC title game with only one conference loss. Is that correct? If that happens then Bama would play A&M for the SEC title.

The A&M loss to ND and the LSU loss to USC are unfortunate blemishes to our conference this year. Our number 1 team going in to the last week of the season, lost to Notre Dame. Gives ND a lot of credibility.

With Indiana's weak SOS, if (when...) the bucknuts slobberknock them this weekend, what happens to IU with a one-loss record? Still in playoff contention?

We will see them against OST this coming weekend…We will find out what they have..Hopefully they win..

Like IT11 mentioned, it would just be the one road game... and Bama would match up very well with teams like Indiana, Penn State, & Notre Dame for example. But I do believe the (possible) added weather obstacle at any of those places would serve as a pretty good equalizer. If Bama got any of those teams at home, it would be closer to a mid tier SEC type game, which Bama does fine with.

I'm just not there yet on the thinking that Bama would be left out if they dropped the SECCG... again, as long as it wasn't a blowout or a 2nd loss to the Vols.

It just doesn't pass the common sense test. (Neither does the NCAA or the selection committee at times.)

IF the loser of the B1GCCG isn't invited as an at large? The loser of the Big12CG, a different story.

Low speed? Sure. Left out? No way with the W's on the schedule.

The fact that Boise State might get a bye is a freaking joke.

I can identify with an Auburn fans. I'm ready for basketball season to be in full swing. Even with the chances of Bama taking titles home...just tired of all this.

Like CNS said winning the SEC Championship is a big deal. I have no problem playing Texas I think they are very beatable and getting that first round bye is huge.
