🏈 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly vs. South Carolina

With the kicking game consistently inconsistent under Saban it does point to a systemic issue. Either talent selection or development. It is odd that with Saban being such a detailed guy that would be the case but hard to argue against it based on the results we see on the field.

Had not really heard about this part of it until recently but it makes a lot of sense. We keep getting these supposedly great kickers and then they are mediocre at best in the games. If it were a player thing you would see at least one or two either be good out of the gates or improve year over year but we really never see that. Has to come down to coaching in some way at that point.
And @TerryP .... agreed the miss on XPt and short FG were disappointing but really not disappointed in kicker. But wouldn't be surprised if he never misses another
Don't know if focus or practice was problem
Maybe both.
And KOs in EZ are great. +++++*+++

Lets play American Bandstand and rate a record (player on defense)

1=average 2=good 3=elite

24=2
94=1
89=1
99=2
8=1
35=1
2=3
21=1
5=2
7=2
15=2

Nick and staff have a long way to go to bring this group up to a really good defense and I believe greatness is out of the question due to the talent level is not there in 2019.

Cant disagree with u Jose. I thought going into year this would be a great D. But terrible tackling, LBs a little slow, no pressure etc
D backfield gave up a lot of catches. Didn't seem aggressive. Maybe expected to much

I am hopeful #92 and #58 can contribute more on the DL and soon. They look like they could be special with more snaps.

Got to give Will and his offensive staff credit for a really good plan. They went after our two young LBers from the whistle. #35 took some bad angles but he was chasing them hard.

I agree with Ten Bears that we have a talent decline on defense. These next two weeks are important for those 2nd teamers that are pushing the starters.

Ya know, that happens with your guard steps on your foot.

If you are not practicing with your line, snapper, and holder you'll never be consistent in the kicking game.

Blaming the kicker is off. Way off.

Blaming the practice schedule and the way Saban has chosen to handle the kicking game? Spot on.

Which part? Because if a guard is stepping on his foot every other play that is a problem. That def. doesn't add up for why he is getting whipped or just blocking the wrong person several times a game.

If what you've said about practice is accurate that is 100% on Saban and it shocks me that he is being this hard headed about it. He's been known for evolving and adapting to what's going on around him. He has to realize that having the whole FG unit together once or twice is not the ideal thing.

I've just noticed in your posts that you ( and your buddy 10 bears) seem to have a low (critical) opinion about a lot of bama players, and YET you have went on & on about how good you think Auburn is & will be. I've watched all of the games from both teams this year - thus my evaluation of you as a talent evaluator!
I'm just grading you as you grade bama players - no offense.

Good - Shavers & Bolden on fake punt (stay at home & do your job! - excellent!)
Bad - overall tackling
Ugly - CBS - Can't pull up the correct replay, can't get player's names correctly, & too many stupid graphics during game play.

For all the bitching about the pass defense...

Let’s keep in mind that he was 36 of 57 for 324 yards. USc just dinked and dunked it all day long. The average per attempt was 5.7 and the average per completion was 9 yards. Also let’s remember the long TD pass into double coverage that 99 out of 100 times goes incomplete or intercepted.

I think the pass defense was just fine.

I also think the pass rush was just fine. With all the passes and short quick ones... you can’t expect a sack/knock down on very attempt. In fact, I’d say they performed very well.

As for the run stop D... I think they performed ok too. Their RB is pretty good and although you don’t want to give up 8 per carry... I think they performed ok... maybe not outstanding... but with all the pass attempt, I can see how the Dline had some issues fitting holes on the run game with two true FR mikes. I think it’ll get much better.

VERY CORRECT!
That same throw that resulted in a SC TD in the 1st quarter was intercepted in the 2nd half - both times the dude threw into double coverage!

My concern was more about the run defense and pass rush. The short passing game makes it hard to get to the QB. If Muschamp had decided to just line up and run I am not sure there was anything we could have done to stop it. To me this points to the front 7 issues.

Good- Tua and the Rydeouts!! 🔥
Bad- tackling and communication. I won’t bash the run game because it seems as though they never really got lathered up. I think RBs were 17 for 81 combined.
Ugly- just how shitty can SEC officials be? It’s almost like they take it as a challenge to see if they can be worse!! 57 pass attempts and not 1 holding call, EVEN when we blitzed!!! Tennison out of bounds? Barmore for targeting? There were missed calls on both sides but damn!!!
Gary Danielson is morphing into Verne Lindquist right before our eyes!!! Who is Najee Davenport and when did Saban sign him? The whining and complaining about the no TD call in the first half. Both he and Nessler claiming that Barmore’s hit was “textbook targeting” and met all of the criteria!! WTH?

@SnakeFan, You could very well be right about that as a 7 man sled. I was thinking 6 man for the 5 lineman + 1 for the tight end. Who would be the 7'th man? The rider - coach? Does any team still use them? It teaches coming off the ball together, quickness, and strength.

Also, does anyone remember when O linemen could not use their hands at all? What year did the rule change? It seems to me it should be much easier to block after that rule change. But made for many more holding calls.
