The BOT approved the move yesterday in their meeting according to the UA release.

More details to come as they become available.

What we know so far...

The price tag on the project is expected to be $80.6 million, and the project should be completed in time for the start of the 2010 season. Roughly 8,500 upper-deck seats and 1,700 South Zone Club seats will be added.

The project will add more than 9,000 seats, 36 skyboxes, and raise the stadium's capacity to more than 101,000.

It's supposed to start in the spring, does this affect A-Day at all?

If it's like it was in the spring of '05, it'll affect it in a manner of speaking.

Some of the gates will be closed. They'll likely close off seating in that endzone. Traffic diverted, some parking lost, etc.

As to the scrimmage itself, no.

I guess the only negative I can find about the expansions is that they fall on the odd years. Which means we'll have some rivals in town. :?

The CW quoted Mal Moore as saying they were expanding the student section.

Thank goodness there are 10,000 people on the TIDEPRIDE waiting list standing by to pay for it. Everyone is happy.

I'm just saying that despite what yall feel, the administration feels that the student section needs expansion. :?

I'm for as large of a student section as we can fill. We should need one the seats 25,000, but the turn out does not alway bare that out. I'm thankful that we can add seats for both groups, and thankful to those forking over the dough. Win-Win-Win.

If the seats don't fill, Saban won't be for it. And if he ain't for it, it won't matter what the Admin wants.

SO RIGHT. And the risk here for the students is that if seats are ever turned over to TIDEPRIDE they will be lost to TIDEPRIDE forever. The students need to step up or lose their seat.
