| NEWS Coleman Coliseum renovation talks underway as Alabama construction moves forward- AL.com

The goal is to sell all the seats. Supply and demand. A sellout leads to profitability.
The problem is you're going to cut out long-time season ticket holders who go to the game to increase general admission. At least that is what's expected. We'll probably sell out season tickets with the new arena, but I doubt we'll give out 6700.

Dont know bama bball fans are going to be like that...
in any venue.......
So what's the point of a new building? Everything you pointed to in the article above would have happened with renovation.

This all started a decade or so ago with fans yelling "we need a basketball only facility" until—those that were paying attention realized—these fans had a NBA coach mentioning how good the practice facilities were for the team. So that reason is out.

We need fans closer to the court / it looks bad on TV. That's out, the renovation would have covered that reason.

The idea of "build a new arena because it'll improve the product" wasn't reasonable when it was first spoken. You're stating little belief it'll improve the HCA aspect: just aesthetics.

So what's the point?

Byrne suggested it was less expensive to dig down and then 'cover' versus building up and around. IF that's truly the case and it's all about cost, I get it. We're still left with what's essentially a city building and amphitheater in the park: it's only for show times.

I had asked the question on another site regarding how much profit does Bama make from basketball. The answer from two posters was in the ballpark of 5 million per year. You can better understand why the feet dragging on spending 200 million for basketball.

With the one and done now for everybody and not Coach K (hanging it up) and Cal, due to the portal movements it is going to be very difficult to have a steady product. I doubt 40 percent of the current players on this roster will be on the 2022 roster. Pearl on signed one HS player this cycle but hit the jackpot with the portal. Nate didn't have as much success.

We'll see but it's the Indians and not the arrows.

Duke's arena was built in 1940

Coleman was outdated. Looked outdated
Was

To compete for talent gonna have to have something better than others ( see football.. and NO BD doesn't look like an upside down ark Noah saved the world in)

Not going to rebuild bama basketball in a stoke of a pen. But a shiny new palace is a start with our coach and recruiting.

Bama bball fans will have to be patient.
We have the right guy and new palace on the way. But winning is the key

You're still missing points here that have been pointed to repeatedly.

Outdated is addressed with renovation.

They already have facilities that are better than others. Here, with a new building, that point is even more emphasized. They'll spend four or five hours a week in the new place. The remainder? In their current facilities.

You're always going back to the exterior. That would be addressed with the renovation.

A shiny new place for recruiting versus the state art facilities they currently recruit with. That's a building and we're back to where they'll spend their time.

Its same reason theyimproved dressing rooms..recruiting rooms...locker rooms...SnC rooms for football....

All improved....to showcast for recruiting....key to success...

Like it or not....The new class of players want bling...the new facility ( even some practice at coleman...if it survives..at all...) will be a recruiting tool...
And fan enticing...
