You nailed it here. The guy is a weirdo who doesn't fully trust anyone to run his offense, and honestly, not many or any can. But he also gets pressure from around the program to do certain things. That's normal to a degree at any SEC school (had gotten out of hand at UA under Shula, then Saban stepped in on day 1 and "fixed the glitch"). But, at auburn, it has manifested over the years and at times causes real issues. For example, Bo Nix was a highly regarded QB coming out of HS, lots of legit offers. But he as ALWAYS going to auburn as a Hayseed Legacy. The influencers around the program would have had a shit fit otherwise. But, is Bo Nix the type of QB that Gus needs for his system to excel? Obviously, no. As it is, it's just hurting what Gus wants to do, and also hurting Bo's development as a QB.
