I haven’t watched a whole lot of them this season, but they’re a team that has proven they can play with the big boys. BUT, they don’t seem like they’re a very battle tested bunch when it comes to their conference schedule….lots of blowouts.

I think having a first round BYE can be a disadvantage. We seem like we were able to avoid any major injuries and got a good tune up before playing we play Indiana.

Not only that, here's what concerns me the most about the team and whether I feel good about it or not.
Disclaimer: I do think they're very good team, but I'm not so sure about them.
1. Indiana only played 2 ranked teams Oregon and Ohio State (Conference).
2. I disagree with their best wins outside Oregon and Ohio State: I would say Penn State and that's it.
3. I do agree, they're not battle tested team. They haven't been down by more than 10 points this season.
4. Indiana is tied #1 for fumbles lost this season. Ball Security is an issue for them.
5. Indiana is #4 for penalties this season.
6. Experience matters in playoff. Can they handle the distractions and the noise surrounding them? Media will pick them as the favorite.


I feel like those things and maybe I'm missing more are what Alabama needs to play harder, and put them in uncomfortable situations making them play from behind. Alabama just need to be up by 17 points at half time, just to put pressure on them.

I like that our penalty issues have diminished.
Gotta watch out for officials.

At this point in time, we had better take IU seriously. Yes, they have been a laughing stock for years, the Vandy of the Big 10. We cannot say that anymore. CCC has done an amazing job at IU! They play a wide open offense that can run or pass and their defense is solid. The big wins over Oregon, Ohio State are solid wins AND those two teams are still in the playoffs. We split with UGA and they are still in as well.

Here is my take:
OL must give Ty time to throw.
Hill has to be in the game more bc Jam and our other backs just have not done it.
Hit the hole hard and fast when running the ball.
Stop, just stop with the long developing running plays and passes.
When we see two high safeties, we must attack the middle of the field with intermediate routes.
Use Cuevas more in the passing game.
Stop the cute crap on offense.
We are vulnerable in the passing game of IU. Bottom line, we just do not cover tight.
IU will attack us between the LBers and safeties. We have to stop that.
Pressure from our defense with stunts and blitzes.
Field position on special teams is critical.
Finally, don’t try to be too complicated with calling the offensive or defensive sets.

Did I miss anything? 🤔
 
We're going to need for their QB to not play as well as normal. Wommack is going to have to pressure that Cat from the kickoff. IU beat the best team money can buy in OSU don't fool yourself with "but it's the Big 10".

7 of 11 starters on their defense and offense are transfers. Their RB is a hoss. Wished we had him. We're running up a hill due to our RB room. Just way too much pressure on #15 play after play with the lack of a running game.

Putting Ty under center and trying to run downhill is the way to go. Should be a big part of our plan as well as play action with #15 under center. Less wideouts on each down and hopefully #80 and #87 can actually play more snaps. We need a TE blocker on the LOS. #81 isn't it.

Bingo on that 71 failure.

As far as showing it over and over to the team? I don't think they want to hurt in feelings these days. Maybe some good ole pats on the head are more in order.
 
Indiana vs Alabama

Indiana has played 3 opponents ranked inside the top 25

During those games:

Mendoza averages:

223.33 ypg passing 1 INT and 1.3 TDs per game through the air

Indiana Rushing:

111 yards on the ground for their team

Alabama has played 5 games against teams in the top 25

Simpson averages:

277 ypg passing 0.6 INT and 1.6 TDs per game through the air

Bama Rushing:

73.6 yards on the ground during these games (Yes this includes the -3 game) if we throw that out Bama's numbers rise significantly higher


Without the terrible Georgia Game:

293.5 ypg passing 0.5 INT and 1.75 TDs per game through the air

Bama Rushing

92.75 yards on the ground

So essentially if Bama is healthy and plays their normal game we SHOULD be able to outduel Indiana all things considered. I struggle with the numbers lately for College Football because while these numbers mean something when I look at Bama's schedule and what they went through, I look at Indiana and I just see so many mediocre teams they played this year. They won their games by a good margin but it's hard to draw comparisons here. I know they usually play mistake free football, but they also play with the lead and they try to capitalize on your mistakes. I think their defense is solid but I do like our chances to be able to move the ball on them. They've played a relatively soft schedule avoiding tougher competition in the Big this year, and the only games they've had against tough competition (top 25 have all been decided by 1 score or 10 point games) they don't have an explosive offense despite Mendoza winning the Heisman....I'd guess we'll need a similar game plan. Confuse him, and force him to make reads, put pressure and try to capitalize on turnovers. Play smart on offense and grind them down, they could panic late in 3rd or 4th without the lead...they've only ever been tested against maybe Iowa? They were down by a field goal around the 10 minute mark in the game..so it wasn't exactly a comeback there.

I think you missed just whipping the guy in front of you on both sides of the ball.... Maybe an oversimplification but a lot of it comes down to this.

One other key, this would be a great game for #2 to show back up. He has waaaaay to much talent to not be a difference maker. Sure hope this is the game he rediscovers his edge and gets on a roll. Grubb could get him involved with screens or end around runs. Do something because It would be a huge boost for Bama if he could get back to playing like he is capable of playing.
 
They are solid in all parts of the game. Well coached, disciplined.

We are definitely gonna have to earn this one.

I think it all comes down to bama’s oline and dline

If we can control the line of scrimmage, we win. If Ty has a dirty uniform and we can’t pressure their qb, gonna be a long game.
