Wow, that's a tough spot for anyone. A related article noted they'd had several years of single digit wins, so a change wasn't surprising. The most surprising thing is that this wasn't her first question, it didn't occur until twenty minutes into the press conference. Had to feel like an eternity for her.

If you want to be known as someone you can work for and trust, then you wait until the team gets back to campus and then request a meeting with the coach for the following day.
Pat Haden is certainly sought after nowadays.
Never a good time but a better time would be the next day during an end-of-year recap between the coach and AD.

The firing isn’t the issue. It’s when she was given the news. There’s not a lot of time between the end of the game, player handshakes, coach’s words to players in the locker room and the press conference.
