🏈 GOOD, BAD & UGLY vs Piggies

Good - Bama won, scored 49 points, had 5 or 6 sacks. Got 5 or 6 turnovers with 2 defensive scores.
Bad and Ugly - Arkansas kept the ball 35 minutes, gave up 25 first downs to our 16, had 471 total yards and allowed 30 points . 5 of those first downs came from defensive penalties.

Good: Minkah, offense overall, defensive pass rush, turnovers and getting points on defense.
I was severely heated about Minkah at the end of the first half where he and Eddie Jackson just got REALLY lazy and let an easy pass get completed which resulted in about a 50 yard play. Granted Minkah gets points for getting on his horse and chasing the guy down but still. Then he comes back and makes three picks and returns one for a 100-yard score. His performance in the second half was incredible. A couple of the DBs back there are really struggling though. Marlon has had a couple of poor games now (there have been some near perfect passes completed on him but then there have been times when he is just out of position too). Hootie is getting more and more playing time and if Ronnie Harrison doesn't get his shit together Hootie might take his spot. Pass rush was just nasty tonight.

Bad: turnovers and fumbles (lost and not lost). The fact that we left off the gas in the fourth.
The fumbles were just ridiculous. ArDarius' was probably the worst and the pick really couldn't be helped, Jalen got blindsided as he was letting the ball go. I relaly hated that we let off the gas in the fourth too, Allen got to get a lot of garbage yardage against backups and we just ran vanilla up the gut offense trying to run the clock out. The score looked a hell of a lot more respectable than the way the game actually went.

Ugly: Referees
I hate when fans constantly whine about referees and how referees hate their team but tonight was a little ridiculous. I dont have as much of an issue if things are being consistently called on both sides but they weren't. The most glaring ones was the roughing the passer on Rashaan and a cpl of those pass interference's especially the one on Averett. I mean what do you expect those guys to do? The lineman blocks Rashaan pretty much into falling down and Rashaan fights through and gets the sack. Is he supposed to just lay there and let the QB get the pass off? And as far as Averett is concerned, what does he do? Its a back shoulder throw and he not only gets his head around but gets his entire body around and is making a play on the ball. The receiver stops and as a result they collide, what his he supposed to do? Just completely stop and let the receiver make the catch and then maybe make the tackle? Not only that you got Arky receivers blatantly pushing off of DBs but Ridley gets pretty much groped a cpl times right in front of an official and nothing.

Or Arkansas holding down our qb.

Good: Everything about this offense when it starts clicking on the ground. The passing attack that came AFTER we established the run was pitch and catch to some wide open people, all over the field, including, wait for it, ...........................................................................wait for it, ..........................................yes, could it be, ................................O J Howard.

Bad: Gonna let Marlon Humphrey tell the tale:

It's the nine passes of 20-plus yards (by six different Razorbacks) that bugged Humphrey. Allowing three passing touchdowns did too.
"Almost every play that happened in the first half and the second half, really, we gave to them whether it was a busted coverage, not knowing the certain formation -- everything we really gave to them," Humphrey said. "That's all it was."
"We just have to play the ball. We have to know when we have safety help. Just too many busted coverages."

Mel Tucker, please come back, please!

Here's the obvious. This is the type of mid-season win—one that begins a tough stretch—that any fan or coach would ask for.

I'm seeing a team that jumped out to a good start but still made mistakes along the way. It's the kind of game I believe Saban likes because there are plenty of areas he can still point to, work hard on, and more importantly maintain the teams' focus upon. This isn't a weekend where the team can afford a case of attention deficit disorder ... that's half of Neyland's mystique (pun intended.)

Nah, that lineman didn't "block" Harrison into the QB. He tackled Harrison with a 1-arm choke hold.

Good - Running backs are getting it done. Hope Jacobs is ok. Harris and Bo both looked good. Emmons is going to be solid for us with more carries.

Bad - Turnovers. We will absolutely lose multiple games if we keep turning the ball over, especially in the red zone. Protect the damn ball.

Ugly - I've been saying this since last year, Marlon Humphrey and Ronnie Harrison are not big time players. Sure, they have their moments and both are really good in run coverage, but they are without a doubt a liability in pass coverage. I'd be licking my chops if I were Josh Dobbs and Trevor Knight. They won't need 100 yards rushing as long as they pick on those two. People are always talking those two up, but in actuality it's our front seven that deserve all the accolades. I just hope we can continue to get pressure going forward from our front, because Watson or any other playoff contender will eat those two alive.

Good - Got off to a good start minus the fumble at the goal line.... not gonna fault Jacobs on that one, took a nasty shot to the funny bone.

Bad - Jareds underthrows, if he hits O.J. and Forristall in stride on those two passes, they would still be running. :-)

Ugly - One of the ugliest officiated games I've seen in a while.

Good: This is going to some people - Kiffin's play calling! And the offense in general. They almost scored too fast. But we played more under center and let the O line control the game. Not as many jet sweeps but the ones that were run were effective. Passing game was wide open despite Jalen being late on most throws... A few of those could have resulted in huge run after catch stats. But regardless, that was a really efficient and effective offensive performance, only negative coming when Hurts got hit as throwing.

Bad: It has to be the secondary. Way too many WR's running free back there. As noted earlier I think part of it was being on the field too much, but they could have gotten themselves off the field also. Humphrey in particular is getting picked on... Which may not be a bad thing in the long run, maybe he comes back next year.

Ugly: Rueben Foster not coming back in the game. We need him, period.
