🏀 🏀 2025-26 Bama Basketball Off-season News and Updates: THURS Press Conference with Nate Oats

Oats at Media Days today....

Reemphasized defense again, particularly in the front court. As long as Oats is the HC, I will rarely worry about the offense, other than the volume of turnovers. And even with that, it plays into the fact that we get more possessions per game due to the pace and volume of shots. As a program, Alabama's been pretty damn elite for the last three seasons. But we are missing a damn good defensive squad that can generate turnovers and dominate the boards that can really elevate this program to the national title.

Do like how promising Davion Hannah sounds. Think that's the first sound bite from Oats about him since his recruitment.

Zero defense again. Sherrell and Holloway were really disappointing. Holloway got absolutely cooked on the defensive end and took a number of poor shots. Sherrell showed zero aggression whatsoever.

Bristow and Bol Bowen look like they're going to be perfect fits. Bristow will develop into a junkyard player that we need.

Philon is unbelievable. He looks like he's developed a better shooting stroke.

It's an exhibition game, so things will improve. I'm just gonna say, I'm still not a fan of Brian Adam's defense. Charlie Henry seemed to get way more out of the guys m. Maybe it'll improve but it looks a lot like the same ole piss poor Alabama D. Horrible at defending ball screen action and miss communication on switches. Rim protection will be another problem again. I just hoped to see a marginal improvement, but I guess that's asking for too much. Rebounding was god awful.

Offense played very well at times. Too many turnovers, but that's expected for an Oats team early in the season. Philon again is just so explosive. Mallette is a very good high IQ player. I think Davion Hannah showed more promise than Amari Allen.

It was just an exibition game but we have seen similar issues under Oats time at Bama. In my view Oats is going to have to sit people for defensive lapses if he is ever going to really make D a priority. He says the right words and I am sure they work hard on it but not often he puts players on the pine for defense. I do not have the stats from the past but I know he has done it but not at a zero tolerance level.

Now the above statement is assuming w/o really knowing it is effort and/or mental lapses and not scheme.
