isn't that what the "buy out" clause if for? I mean, you negotiate terms for both sides... if the coach leaves there is typically a cost involved same as if a coach if let go...Think the same thing about coaches that leave too? If they leave before the contract is up they have to pay back all money paid
I also think that since they are making that big money that they should have to pay tuition and leave the scholarship for someone who needs it.He should be required to pay a licensing fee to the University for using its Name, Imagine, and Likeness like any other retailer out there now that he has left. Those contracts with players outta be contengient on their enrollment with said university and if you leave you gotta pay back the licensing fee. They are supposed to already document the sales and deals with the university, so attaching a value to it should be pretty easy.
The university invests in these guys much more than they are getting out in a lot of cases. You only need to look at the P&L of most athletic departments to understand that. Someone has to step in and regulate this crap because there is no way all of the paperwork is being properly processed. Next thing we'll have are Rhodes scholars wanting NIL for their advancement with their studies and such that universities trademark.
Let's be honest. If we ever tried to claw back scholarship costs in the NIL era, it would be a debacle. The University does not need to be penny wise and pound foolish over scholarship money.I also think that since they are making that big money that they should have to pay tuition and leave the scholarship for someone who needs it.

Blessed and honored to be re-offered by the new staff at Alabama! @KalenDeBoer

Thanks! Cool! Coach already working!Five star quarterback that was leaning to Alabama before Saban retired. Now they have him predicted to Tennessee.

And paying back your scholly if necessary
1000% agree with this. If they graduate, medically retire, or leave for the professional ranks early, sure. Transferring schools, cut a check.
If a player makes millions in NIL absolutely..if they come in with big money make them walk ons… scholarships should only be for people that can’t afford school.. and do the right thingIf a player participates a year, and decides to transfer, you are suggesting he should give that money back? Pay his scholarship back?
Is this what I'm reading?
There are merit and need scholarships. The optics of clawing back attendance costs for a prior semester are poor. What would be your NIL cutoff to go after a kid's money? If a player makes millions in NIL absolutely..if they come in with big money make them walk ons… scholarships should only be for people that can’t afford school.. and do the right thing
You are penalizing someone for fulfilling their obligation. If a player makes millions in NIL absolutely..if they come in with big money make them walk ons… scholarships should only be for people that can’t afford school.. and do the right thing
No more schollys over 1 year.. if these guys become millionaires, they must pay their way -and walk on... no more free rides for these guys.. they have money and can be fed grapes .. take care of the players that are on a full ride.. i’m surprised the campus Commies aren’t rioting, demanding they pay their fair share..You are penalizing someone for fulfilling their obligation.
Take Bond for example. He's getting 750K to sign. He did. He'll play next year. If he leaves Texas and goes to Ohio State, didn't he fulfill his obligation to Texas?
The money needs to be redirected in the right places.. not helping kids making big money..There are merit and need scholarships. The optics of clawing back attendance costs for a prior semester are poor. What would be your NIL cutoff to go after a kid's money?
