| RECRUIT ⭐️Alabama's 2024 Signing Day Class Update Thread⭐️

I just don’t see how anyone can take a 2025 (or 2026) commitment seriously…These kids will get lied to, wined & dined and “hookerized” by some of these other coaches..This recruiting business has become very dirty..
Recruiting hasn’t just recently become dirty my man! It has been for a LONG time and has only gotten worse!!! You had schools back in the 70’s using Coach Bryant’s age and health against him then!!! Oklahoma was paying guys BEFORE SMU got hammered and shutdown in the early 80’s.

exactly, I’ve mentored and coach a lot of kids that where recruited and played at the D-1 level. Some of the stories they told me!!!!!
Different schools did different things, BAMA included….

Now that stuff is completely out in the open.. with No worries about repercussions.. some of it is even child abuse now.. like using prostitution for underage players.. it’s gonna get worse and worse now..

Well, it’s not only for the signing class but for your whole team every year. It wouldn’t have surprised me to see Bond make a “business decision” regardless of if Saban retired or not.

These kids have tremendous amounts of money being thrown their way. It’s open recruitment for the whole team every year just about.

In all fairness, I would expect any recruit with options to re-evaluate now that’s it’s a different coach and possibly a different scheme.
You can do that w/o decomitting. What does decomitting do for him? Sends a message to other schools he is available? I am sure there is a subtle thing that I am missing about this.

Yeah, decommit from the school that will be making you the focal point of its offense.

Yep same thing that is confusing me. Offensive guys should be really excited. I was more concerned about the defensive players we have and commits we have than Offense until I started seeing the players that were entering the portal and these decommits. Doesn't add up to me but what do I know.

He should be required to pay a licensing fee to the University for using its Name, Imagine, and Likeness like any other retailer out there now that he has left. Those contracts with players outta be contengient on their enrollment with said university and if you leave you gotta pay back the licensing fee. They are supposed to already document the sales and deals with the university, so attaching a value to it should be pretty easy.

The university invests in these guys much more than they are getting out in a lot of cases. You only need to look at the P&L of most athletic departments to understand that. Someone has to step in and regulate this crap because there is no way all of the paperwork is being properly processed. Next thing we'll have are Rhodes scholars wanting NIL for their advancement with their studies and such that universities trademark.

Well, if you are re-evaluating I would think the mature and proper thing to do is to decommit to let everyone know where you stand, Bama included. To me, it’s the “right” thing to do out in the open and not behind a closed door in secret.

Personally I think any NIL money should be held in trust until graduation or if eaving for NFL you get a %. If you transfer you get zero.

Understand but hopefully you would talk to the new coach first. Maybe he did in this case.

I'm not sure if that's the answer but there has to be contracts and more of a commitment to the university. The players have an advantage currently. I'd say just reinstating the 1 year sit-out rule with a transfer would help tremendously.

Think the same thing about coaches that leave too? If they leave before the contract is up they have to pay back all money paid

Coaches can currently be shit canned for poor performance, players at P5 schools can not. Also all scholarships for P5 athletes are automatically renewed every year, coaches are not.
So a player that is not worth a crap, has a free ride no matter what. Do players have that advantage over coaches. Also most coaches contracts have buy outs. So players currently have far more protection than coaches
