I don't think I've ever seen a football player like this. A 6'5 230lb DE that is running by DB's with ease as a WR. He's playing wildcat QB, running through and around defenses. It almost feels like a shame if he isn't playing both ways in some capacity.

But ultimately he appears to have "it". Hungry, aggressive, smart.... He's going to be a difference maker from Game 1.

I have no doubt that this kid will play wildcat QB for us in goal line and short yardage next season. Curious if he would be TE or DE as his main position.

He could be OJ Howard like as a TE. Not sure what is actual 40 time is but he plays a lot like Julio lined up as the boundry receiver. Cant wait to see this kid.

He looks like he will be a problem for the other team no matter where he is lined up.

Is he an early enrollee? if so he could easily be 250lb by the fall if they want him to be.

10.9 100 meters fast enough? Slated to play OLB for us at probably 240-250 tops. OU wanted him as a TE.

Saban's decision, but man it would be nice to have him at DE (6'5 260).
FWIW, he's probably put on 15 lbs his senior season which puts him around 230 lbs or so. when he reports.

No matter what you might read, Saban's defensive ends are still in the 290-310 range. (It's one of those things that haven't changed since he's been here.) That would leave us looking at two years, if not more, for Sanders to put on 60 lbs. What happens to that speed? No way to really answer that but it doesn't seem likely he'd carry the same skill/movement with 60 more lbs on his frame.

Personally, I think he'll see quite a bit of special teams play his frosh year and we really start seeing him come around in 2021. Whether it's inside or outside? There's a good question. At 6' 4-5" he looks like an outside guy when all is said and done.

And its that aspect of our defense that needs to change (IMO). In the past we had dominate interior players but as of late its been a stalemate at best with our guys. This has contributed to our inability to get off the field, left our secondary vulnerable and overall highly predictable on defense. Saban has shown the ability to adapt on offense and in my opinion its time to do such on defense. Chase Young and the Bosa brothers were all in the 6'4 - 6'5 260 lbs range. This type of player is the future and we have 2 or 3 guys in this recruiting class in Anderson, Robinson and Sanders with this type of potential. I've always imagined a speed defensive package with one true NT, fast agile guys like Sanders at both DEs and nimble LBs like Mosley on the inside. One player with his hand in the dirt and everyone else in stance confusing the heck out of the offense. Think of the potential of such a defensive scheme. A guy came dream right?

I would love to see BAMA focus more on a 3-4 defense. With more high speed offenses throwing I believe we could improve the coverage. Coaches friend Belichick runs it. They average 11 points allowed per game. Maybe this year we will see more focus in that area. I know we need hosses up front and fundamentals practice for tackling or they will run on us, but most of the other teams have so much focus on throwing. I have always enjoyed the football knowledge you guys have. What do you think.

My gut is telling me the issue on D has been more about run defense and that the passing #'s haven't change much. I could be wrong. I will take some time and look those up to see if that is the case. The idea of making the other team one dimensional which equates to more predictable has been taken out of the equation as a result. That puts more pressure on all aspects of the Defense. Saban himself preaches balanced offense because he knows how much harder it is for the defense. The standard Saban's D's set was you simply need to stop trying to run and most offenses would eventually get there at some point in the game.

Now all of this was when we also ran more and did not score as quickly and as much. I am sure all of these factor into a less effective D.

Shouldn't the defense we run match the offense we are against? Our offense style shouldn't dictate our defense style until we are way ahead in points. Would it be hard for the defense to know 3-4 and 4-3? I know they line up in a 3-4 sometime but they don't really play it that way.

Agree with all of that in regards to position, special teams.... I just think he's on the field next year at OLB. Aside from Allen, there doesn't appear to be any shoe-in type of returners to keep a freshman all-american type of player off the field next year. Maybe K. Harris? We didn't hear much about King Mw. last year. And TBH I don't even know how much confidence the staff has in Allen because of the lack of snaps he was getting in those bigger games. It doesn't feel like Sanders is a "pass rush specialist" either... by next fall he's going to be even bigger and capable of setting the edge.

It just feels like at some point there needs to be a legit rotation. Hard to watch the starters mush-rushing late in games when teams are converting 3rd and longs over and over. Maybe I'm missing it and Allen was playing more? But 0 sacks against Auburn should be a wake up call... JMO

Four-star weak-side defensive end Deontae Lawson, one of the top 2021 prospects in the state of Alabama, has committed to the Crimson Tide, he confirms to BamaOnLine. AL.com's Ben Thomas was first to report. The Mobile Christian standout held offers from Power Five programs like Auburn, LSU, Clemson and Georgia, among others.

The in-state defender spoke with Nick Saban on Friday evening. "He was ready," Lawson said of the UA head coach's reaction. "He was excited for me. Just hard thinking and talking it over with my parents, praying about it," Lawson said of how he came to his decision. "I think it was time."

So ... why Alabama? "I feel like I'm at home when I'm there," he said. "Just the coaches, they have a great relationship with me. And the success of their program. It feels good. Like a dream come true." Outside linebacker's coach Sal Sunseri recruits Lawson for UA.

Lawson is commitment No. 3 for UA in the 2021 class, joining four-star quarterback Drake Maye and four-star cornerback Latrell McCutchin. The Tide's 2021 class ranks No. 14 in the nation, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.
