Rivals Rankings Week: The top five-star candidates

quote:
As Rivals prepared to unveil its final installment of rankings for the Class of 2021, the national analysts debated a handful of elite prospects as to whether or not they would crack five-star status. Regional analysts Chad Simmons and Sam Spiegelman, as well as National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell, weigh in on the top candidates for a fifth star to close out this recruiting cycle.

JoJo Earle

Certainly, there's an argument to be made that slot receivers shouldn't be five-star candidates, but Earle is one of the few exceptions. The Alabama signee is a home-run threat from anywhere on the field with the ability to make plays in space and keep defenders off-balanced in small windows. Earle has continued to improve as a route-runner and with his hands and was routinely dynamic every time he touched the rock for Aledo these past three years. - Sam Spiegelman, South-Central recruiting analyst

Ga'Quincy McKinstry

McKinstry, known to most in the industry as “Kool-Aid,” is a smooth, gifted, and versatile athlete. He made more big plays on offense as a senior, and some think he could be just as good on the offensive side of the ball, but his home in Tuscaloosa will be the defensive secondary. He is a long, rangy athlete that plays with confidence, quickness and aggression.

He is an explosive athlete with so much natural, raw ability, and Alabama will develop his game at cornerback and put him in position to be successful on the back-end of their defense. He is an athlete that always showed up and made big impacts in games, and he should be moved up to a five-star in this rankings update. - Chad Simmons, Southeast recruiting analyst

Bone: Recruiting Insider Report

quote:
Terrion Arnold I know there has been all sorts of different reports spread on Arnold in the last few weeks. Some even think Alabama is running third behind Florida and Georgia. Sources close to Arnold believe it is very unlikely. It’s possible Arnold chooses the Gators or Bulldogs, but to think Alabama is on the outside is wrong. The Tide is squarely in the race for Arnold and has been since day one.

Alabama among Top247 DB Myles Rowser's top schools list

quote:
Alabama struck in the state of Michigan in the class of 2021, signing five-star defensive tackle Damon Payne from Belleville High School. The Crimson Tide is after a teammate of the Tide signees now in 2022 four-star safety Myles Rowser. The rising senior released his top eight on Monday night, a group that included Alabama, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Penn State in no particular order.

The Tide offered Rowser back in October, quickly climbing his list of offers that includes over two dozen programs.

At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Rowser is rated the No. 10 safety and the No. 124 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He's a fun one! If he can put on a little weight and keep that speed, he's got some Waddle type of potential.

When you see the balance and change of direction, can't help but see a little Tyreke Hill. Dudes just can't wrap him up, he's too quick.

The latest on Top247 safety Terrion Arnold (247Sports)
quote:
Tallahassee (Fla.) John Paul II Catholic Top247 safety Terrion Arnold tells 247Sports he's trying to visit Alabama and Florida this weekend. He has a basketball game Saturday and plans to head out afterwards. "I'll visit both before Signing Day," Arnold stated. The Crimson Tide and Gators are finalists alongside Georgia for Arnold who also plans to play basketball on the next level. Arnold is tabbed by the Top247 as the nation's No. 26 prospect overall.

Strong offensive tackle class has six five-star prospects

quote:
Alabama signee J.C. Latham remains the top guy at No. 4 overall. Having began his career in Wisconsin as a defensive lineman, the IMG Academy product is not as far along as some of the other offensive tackles on this list, but with offensive linemen, not being a finished product in high school is far from unusual. His physical tools, the frame, the basketball background which gives him coordination, balance and feet, give him a very high ceiling.

His bookend mate Tommy Brockermeyer is the No. 2 prospect on the list and Brockermeyer is more advanced technically, but also still has room to improve and grow. At 285 pounds, expect the Tide to add the weight to him, but he was viewed as an elite prospect even after he missed his junior season. He returned as a senior and not only held serve as a top ten prospect, but inched up to No. 9.

Both Latham and Brockermeyer have enrolled mid-year in Tuscaloosa.

West Spotlight: Predictions for National Signing Day 2021

quote:
TUIMOLOAU MAKES IT INTERESTING

J.T. Tuimoloau just does not talk a lot about his recruitment. He gives no hints. Things are pretty tight-lipped from the five-star defensive end and those around him but in the final days before signing day, some things have come to light.

The feeling now is that if Tuimoloau decides to stay closer to home, then Oregon would get him. If he decides to leave, then Alabama would be the favorite. There is also a major contingent who believes Ohio State is also very high on the list and so the Buckeyes definitely cannot be counted out, either.

Oregon seems like the safest bet right now but counting out national powerhouses like Alabama and Ohio State is foolish, too.

That's not what I'm hearing. I understand it to be a USC, Ohio State, Alabama battle and he's not signing Wednesday. It'll be a late signee no matter where he goes.

Rivals Rankings Week: Analyst roundtable

quote:
2. Which prospect do you think we ranked too low?

Sam Spiegelman (South Central): Jaeden Roberts. The Alabama signee is a massive interior lineman at 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds. He's very raw from a technical angle, but possesses enormous brute power and was rock-solid as a senior for North Shore. Roberts has a long way to go to reach his potential, but has upside to be an elite offensive lineman in the SEC and beyond.

3. Who is the prospect you’re most confident will pan out?

Adam Friedman (East Coast): Maason Smith seems like a sure thing but I’m going to say Nolan Rucci. The massive offensive tackle with NFL bloodlines is headed to Wisconsin to team up with his brother. The Badgers do a great job developing players like Rucci and he’s got all the skills to be a success in Madison.

Adam Gorney (West Coast/National): I just cannot see a situation where JC Latham is not the next big-time offensive tackle at Alabama. So many have come before him and thrived under coach Nick Saban's tutelage and Latham is next on the assembly line. He's big, physical, he can move, he takes to coaching and he's been a dominant force at IMG Academy. The next step for Latham is to head to Tuscaloosa and not only learn from Saban but now a former NFL head coach in Doug Marrone will be his position coach.

Josh Helmholdt (Midwest): Our No. 1 overall player,
Maason Smith. I am not saying my confidence is that he will prove to be the best prospect in this class – I think there are others with a higher ceiling – but Smith probably has the highest floor and lowest bust potential. He has the work ethic and the drive to capitalize on his talents with LSU.

Chad Simmons (Southeast): I could list many names here, but there is something about Terrion Arnold that has me confident in placing his name down. He is a natural athlete that puts in unlimited work to get better, and his self-motivation makes him different. On top of that, he is a versatile player with smarts, leadership and the ability to make plays all over the field.

Sam Spiegelman (South Central): It might be considered cheap to say Maason Smith, but there's a reason beyond his athletic skill-set that he was not only the No. 1 defensive lineman but the No. 1 prospect. Smith is undoubtedly the most gifted defensive lineman to emerge from Louisiana in recent memory, and that's a group that includes
Rashard Lawrence,Jerry Tillery,Phidarian Mathis and Ishmael Sopsher among others. Beyond that, he has an incredible work ethic and a devotion to his craft that'll be equally as important.
