šŸˆ Alabama officially releases new coaching staff

So the Lake as DC is not going to happen.
I wouldn't go that far yet.

If it happens then Carl Scott will be headed out of town.

Sark,Butch,Flood on offense + Joe P and Taylor? or will Joe P carry the water for Nick and Nick will hire another offensive guy. If so then this is would be a complete cleansing of Nick's staff with the exception of Pete. That is/would be amazing for one year. Assuming that Coach K leaves as well.

Alabama has hired two new coaches, a former Big Ten head coach and someone who had already worked for the Crimson Tide under Nick Saban.

Saban has hired ex-Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood to be Alabama’s offensive line coach while Sal Sunseri is expected to be hired for a defensive coaching position on the staff, sources confirmed to AL.com.

The 47-year old Flood, who went 27-24 in four seasons as Rutgers' head coach from 2012 to 2015, had been with the Atlanta Falcons since 2017 and spent the last two seasons working with the coach set to be hired as the Tide’s offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian.

Flood had transitioned to a senior assistant role with the Falcons in January after two seasons as the team’s assistant offensive line coach. This is Flood’s first college job since receiving a one-year show cause penalty from the NCAA’s Committee of Infractions for ā€œlack of oversightā€ during his tenure at Rutgers. The show-cause penalty expired last September.

Flood will be taking over for Brent Key, who left to take the offensive line coach job at Georgia Tech.

Sunseri will be returning to the Tide after previously working at Alabama from 2009 to 2011 as the team’s linebackers coach. The 59-year old Sunseri was Florida’s defensive line coach last season after three years as the Oakland Raiders' linebackers coach. He also previously worked as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator.

Saban wanted to hire Sunseri as the Tide’s defensive line coach last year after Karl Dunbar left for the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to sources, but Sunseri had just been hired at Florida and didn’t want to back out of that. Alabama ultimately hired Craig Kuligowski away from Miami.

Sunseri’s son, Vinnie, recently accepted a graduate assistant spot on the staff at Alabama.

Ian Fitzsimmons of ESPN Radio first reported about the hiring of Flood. Bama Online first reported about the expected hiring on Sunseri.

Two new names

As you can see Alabama has eight assistant coaches as of January 19. This morning we are watching two new names. Charles Huff who is the Associate head coach and run game coordinator at Miss. State. From 2014-17 Huff coached the running backs at Penn State. Sources told us last night that a deal between Alabama and Huff is on the table.

Charles Kelly who is the special team's coach and safeties coach at Tennessee is another name on Alabama's list. With Tennessee hiring Tee Martin, the Vols have 11 assistant coaches, which means they need to let go of one assistant coach, which could be Kelly. Kelly was the defensive coordinator at Florida State in 2014 helping Florida State to the college football playoffs.

I've been familiar with this lady for a few years now. I've never really taken issue with things she's written in the past because I've been told, multiple times, she'd be a good fit at Auburn Undercover—a pure female version of a fanboi with a little "nut job" added in for good measure.

Here, however, is a case of either not knowing a damn thing or outright posting bullshit to assuage the audience.

Lake is hitting the ground running with recruiting now; he will be in Texas tomorrow (Thursday) and was in California today. But he did not go to Tuscaloosa to interview for the Alabama job.

Cecil deleting a tweet too about the subject, he knows the internet doesn't forget these things...

Charles Kelly, UT's ST and S coach, has an offer on the table to coach the safeties with Scott concentrating on corners.

Kelly turned down the DC position with Locks a few days ago.

So the Lake as DC is not going to happen. Looks like Nick is going to take that QB coach position slot an apply to his defensive staff with Sark doing double time. I guess the only mystery left is at DL coach and whether Coach K is staying or leaving and whether it will be before or after NSD. TenBears tells me his sauces say look for Bo Davis to return to TitleTown but after NSD. That would complete the band.
Why would they not announce Bo until after NSD? Just curious...

A lot of dates have been thrown around with the talk of Bo returning...it's based on when his show cause ends (19th of April, I believe.)

A lot are assuming we're looking at Bo returning to coach the defensive line. The possibility is there. On the same note, a lot are assuming we're looking at Sal taking over the outside linebackers.

There's the possibility we see Sal move to the line and another guy take the linebackers: he's coached both. He does bring the DC experience into play as well and could work well with Golding. On that note, we could see five guys on defense: Sal, Golding, Kelly, Scott, and one more (a place where Lake could fit.) It would leave the offense with four which is where the head scratching comes in..."how does it play out?"

The extra coaching position (10th, previously held by QB Coach Ghosting) shifting to the defensive side of the ball seems to be how this works out?
I can see a 5:5 split possible.

OC/QB: Sark
RB: Butch or another
OL: Flood
TE/ST: Banks
WR: Butch or another

DC/ILB: Golding
Safeties: Kelly
DL: Sal
Corners: Scott
and one more...

I'm not going to be surprised, in the least, if we don't see Joe Pannunzio on the field.

BamaInsider.com - Alabama to hire Tennessee's Charles Kelly to coaching staff

Nick Saban is set to poach one of Jeremey Pruitt’s most coveted assistants at Tennessee. BamaInsider confirmed Saturday that Alabama plans to add Tennessee special teams coordinator/safeties coach Charles Kelly to its defensive coaching staff. It is currently unclear what role Kelly will serve for the Crimson Tide next season.

Kelly, 51, joined Tennessee’s staff last season. Before that, he severed as Florida State’s defensive coordinator form 2014-17. According to Football Scoop, Kelly turned down an offer to become the defensive coordinator position with Maryland earlier this week. Alabama is currently in need of a defensive coordinator and outside linebacker coach after Tosh Lupoi left to become the defensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns.

Kelly helped Florida State rank in the top 25 in total defense in each of his final three years as defensive coordinator. The Seminoles led the nation with 3.92 sacks per game in 2016. Before being promoted to defensive coordinator, Kelly spent the 2013 season coaching linebackers and special teams. During his five total seasons in Tallahassee, Fla., he coached 12 eventual NFL Draft picks, including an impressive nine first-round selections.

Prior to joining Florida State, Kelly spent eight years at Georgia Tech, overseeing special teams (2007), cornerbacks (2008-09), defensive backs (2010-12) and ultimately served as the interim defensive coordinator during his final season.

The Ozark, Ala., native played defensive back at Auburn from 1986-89. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Central High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala., before spending the 1993 season as an assistant at his alma mater.

From there, Kelly spent the next five years at Jacksonville State, spending time on both sides of the ball while coaching running backs (1994), defensive backs (1995), as well as serving as the offensive coordinator (1996) and defensive coordinator (1997-98). He also has experience as a defensive coordinator at Nicholls State and Eufaula (Ala.) High School.

Friday, BamaInsider learned Alabama will add Florida defensive line coach Sal Sunseri and Atlanta Flacons assist offensive line coach Kyle Flood to its staff. The Crimson Tide also reportedly added Steve Sarkisian as its next offensive coordinator.

Five assistants from last year’s coaching staff have taken new jobs with other teams as Lupoi (Cleveland Browns), offensive coordinator Mike Locksley (Maryland), co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Josh Gattis (Michigan), associate head coach/ quarterback coach Dan Enos (Miami) and offensive line coach Brent Key (Georgia Tech) have all departed from Alabama.

I'm glad Saban is addressing the the defensive side of the ball. That was really the unit that let the team down in last three games of the season. The defense had plenty of talent but was a letdown against Fromm, Murray, and Lawrence. I put most of the blame on the coaches if a defense that has multiple players that will be drafted into the NFL is that non effective against an opposing team's offense.

Sunseri I think is a good pickup. Our LB play when he was at Bama from 09-11 (I can't believe its been that long since he coached at UA) was on point. Would I like the guy from Washington? Yes, but It seems he is staying put for now. Kelly and Sunseri are proven veterans, and I think they offer quick resolution to the defensive woes from last year... from a coaching stand point anyway.
