| FTBL Updates on Alabama players that are entering the transfer portal...

I know CNS loved this team but it felt like there was some of this it is about me. Never could put my finger on it but the focus on marketing and making money of LANK was one of those yellow flags for me. Milroe and Arnold were the faces of that. This concerned me about Milroe but maybe I am creating something that does not exist but I just do not know how you keep the main thing the main thing when you are distracted. I think this may be where we miss CNS the most. We saw him maintain egos and keep them aligned that team first helps you achieve you personal goals.

How Bond can things this is a good look is beyond me.

DeBoer’s offense strives for balance as they accumulated almost 7000 yards this past season with 1700+ coming from the run game. They produced an 1100+ yard rusher, 2 WRs well over 1000+ receiving yards, a TE that averaged close to 10 yards a catch on 40+ catches and Michael Penix orchestrating the whole thing.
With Milroe, I imagine you will see Grubb use some QB designed runs. Penix dealt with 3 different ACL surgeries during his career and wasn’t near the runner he was coming out of HS. I guess the best comparison to make would be Sark in ‘20 here like @TerryP mentioned before in another thread. Receivers will run more to open spaces and be less reliant on a QB having to hit tight windows or throw a receiver open.
All this is what is perplexing about the WR and TE that have entered the portal. Any offense person should look at that and feel good about the hire. Now what I do not know is what has his pipeline to the NFL looked like even with the productive record and offensive numbers. The level a few of the SEC coaches included CNS had here will be hard to measure up to but that is the machine Deboer has inherited.

I don't understand. Saban had nothing to do with LANK.
I am talking about the players not Saban. In todays world kids making money is just what it is but with it being so visibile I am just concerned if they are focused on the right things from a team standpoint. Are they doing as much as they can do to get better and prepare.

I was in a discussion last night about the whole world of college athletics and the loyalty that the players, coaches, and fans should have. The general consensus from that discussion was that the players should basically be able to do whatever they want, they have no loyalty and everything to them is a 'business decision".

I won't paint myself into that same box, as I see it there's a ton of color to the spectrum even in this sense. Loyalty comes in different ways and we should embrace the guys that do want to tough it out and be here and let the guys who don't..walk. Malachai Moore's saying has been thrown around a bunch lately "If they ain't in Crimson, fuck em" and that rings very true in my mind here. We don't want them to die or get hurt, but if they're truly going elsewhere, give them the 2 finger salute and move on with our lives. Our loyalty is to the guys who stay and want to be a part of something. There are exceptions to this but generally I feel like this should be the rule.

Talent is rich on the roster, we all understand that we have a magic number of 85. Someone on twitter did the math, we were at 100 after Early Signing Day without the transfer additions. With the transfers out and the transfers in we are now sitting somewhere around 18 transfers out and 3 transfers in. That puts us directly at 85. However, we have to account for some guys that will likely trickle in over the next week or two from the portal. Also NSD count right now is 3 more (Daniel Hill, Zabien Brown, and Quinton Reese) + maybe Ryan Williams which means if we get Williams we'd need to lose 4 more guys at least to be close to the right number. None of this is accounting for if we get transfers in from other schools we would need even more turnover.

Hope this helps on a cold but cozy Monday morning.

What's wrong with them being able to do both? You act like they're not capable of doing both.

You are making too much out of this. LANK was adopted as a team motto. Jalen and Terrion saw it as a way they could use their NIL agreements and share it with teammates. I'm pretty certain the LANK set-up is just like Yea Alabama.

I actually applaud their efforts with this. No different than a Marketing project in MKTG 101 where you come up with a business idea and run with marketing and production of it. I felt they were getting a little full of themselves towards the end of the year and having an actual store at the Rose Bowl and buying into their own press, but in all honesty I thought it was a great idea and exactly the idea I had in mind when it came to what NIL truly was. I did like the teamwide effort they provided with the LANK packages to each player.

I'm not understanding offensive players transferring. Did they pay attention at all to what Washington did the last couple years on offense, specifically receivers? Obviously just chasing the instant dollar.
Exactly! Did they bother to even check into CKD and company? Didn't they have the top passing attack and something like top 6 offense? These guys are known for their passing game. Some of these kids are just oblivious.

It is perplexing, IF their priorities are about getting touches or good film for the next level. It isn’t as perplexing IF they are just chasing the quick dollar signs!!

And NIL strikes again.... I guess his quote about "business decision" applies. I was thinking more about getting to the NFL where in the past is where the real value came from. Now they can get $$ well before that and Tx likely does have deeper pockets.

Nothing if they can balance the distraction which is usually not the strength of teenage males. I just do not recall this marketing out there as visible as this team has been. This was CNS worse team since 2007. Certainly was the case earlier in the year. Certainly can't be the only reason why but could have contributed. I am sure this is old school thinking but it is what it is.
