i'm saying voting starts at 7am eastern and is open for 24 hours... so it closes at 7am Eastern the next morning. That would be opening at 4am PST and closing at 4am PST the next day. If you want to vote at 7am PST, you vote at 7am PST... or vote at 5pm PST or 11am PST or 9pm PST or 3am PST you can... it's open for a total of 24 hours. Every hour and minute on the clock is represented in every time zone around the world in the same 24 hr period. You say the starting time is 7am Eastern. Isn’t 7am Eastern the equivalent of 4am Pacific? Or are you saying that each time zone’s voting begins at 7am and runs for 24 hours?
The problem with this is that results will be finalized later because we have to wait until the polls close to determine the winner. The results aren’t known the instant the polls close.
All the polls open and close at the same time so all the polls are open for the same 24 hours, so any information that is released after the polls close does not have the chance to affect the other states turnout. It's not about knowing instantly the winner... it's about not suppressing turnout in the later closing areas by the results that are released by media in earlier closing polls. If it's pouring rain in your Nevada (which can actually be dangerous with flash flooding) and you don't think your vote will make a difference in the Presidential race due to the Media "calling" races on the East coast, you may not go vote at all... which can have devastating affect on local initiatives votes along with state congress/gov races along with Capital Congress races.
