In retrospect, I must say that it was quite evident tonight that Georgia was better than Alabama in practically every position outside of QB and WR. When it became a battle of attrition, I could sadly tell that Georgia was going to outlast us the same way Nebraska outlasted Miami in the 1995 Orange bowl.
I said it in the game thread, and I'll say it again, the injury to Williams will be one of college football's great "what if" moments. As far as the legacy of this Alabama team, I will say that they over achieved by a long shot this year. And that is saying a lot. The 2020 Alabama Crimson Tide team was one of the great college football teams of all time, and this team valiantly defended their title this year. If Bryce Young wasn't on this team, they would not have even made it past Auburn in Jordan Hare Stadium.
Going forward, I think the biggest concern is probably addressing the horrible offensive line play this year and developing the younger guys at WR. Doug Marrone should be shit canned this year IMO.
As far as the national implications of this game, I don't think it will really affect Alabama all that much in the long run. You might hear some stupid Skip Bayless type takes such as "Saban is washed up!" or "Alabama's reign is coming to an end!", and both of those takes are cringey at best. Some will certainly talk about about how both of Alabama's losses this year came at the hands of Saban's former assistants, which at some point was a mathematical certainty considering 70% of SEC coaches are former Saban assistants. He is the GOAT, but even greats like Bill Belicheck had losses in the super bowl (3 to be exact).
